- In this video, Sean Poppy takes a reluctant Scooter the coyote out of the box. He instructs the community to stay quiet. He answers questions about Scooter's age and behaviors, as well as some of the care they provide this 45lb animal. He explains how they are both fearful and watchful.
Scooter reminds me a lot of Hoot, a coyote my great aunt cared for. He was struck by a car as a pup (about 6 months old) and was blind as a result of the brain injury.
I still remember the first few months after my great aunt took him in, he would curl up in my lap and just cry. I was 12, and just helping my then 70 year old aunt out with her wild life rehab.
Hoot passed away at the age of 11, in his sleep. He was basically a pet, because he could never have been released.
Now, that all being said, i also recognize the threat a pack of young male coyotes can be to a suburban or even rural area. Particularly to deer herds in the deeper parts of winter. It is not unusual in areas with uncontrolled coyote populations, to find Deer Beds in the winter that are just painted with blood and gore because a pack of young male Eastern Coy (which are part dog and part wolf as well) got bored and found some deer trapped by deep snow.

what made you want to rescue/raise a coyote? Not that he is not beautiful. Just curious?

Coy dogs raised from little pups are fine. I wonder if coyotes could be domesticated, theyre smart like a Jack Russell
