I don't understand why flounder are allowed to be commercially harvested. It's a game fish. Commercial fishing should only be hooking line. And cast netting mullet.

We have been coming to NC to flounder fish for 20 years. This will be our last vacation to NC coastal waters. We will be sticking to south Carolina from now on. We are in NC as we speak and the game guys are harassing everyone that has a cooler. Never in my life have I witnessed such tyrannical dictatorship. We absolutely won't be spending our money in NC after this trip. It's disgusting and it makes me sad to live in NC.
These flounder regulations are created just to make money for the state. That's it. We need to defund this NC wildlife agency.

Mr. Kirby, I have copied the press release the Division of Marine Fisheries put out on Aug. 31,2023. The Marine Fisheries Commission has a rule on transportation and when the flounder season will open in joint waters. The transportation rule is 15A NCAC 03I .0120 and it states it shall be unlawful to possess or transport through State coastal fishing waters any species of fish that is subject to State season, size, or harvest restrictions, regardless whether the species was taken in state or federal waters, unless all fish taken are in compliance with the restrictions for the waterbody or area being fished. Also the flounder season for joint water is proclamation FF-31-2023. The proclamation does not open joint waters until Sept. 15. If you are inspected in coastal or joint waters and are possessing flounder you could be cited under the transportation rule or possessing flounder during the closed season by proclamation.
