- On the Eleventh hour, of the Eleventh day, of the Eleventh month of 1918, the armistice between the German Empire and the Entente powers went into effect, effectively ending the First World War. Exactly a century later, two steam locomotives that had served during the war lead an excursion from Chattanooga, Tennessee into Northwest Georgia.
With the US entry into the war in 1917, the Southern Railway came under the control of the United States Railroad Administration, a government agency created with the aim of streamlining railroad operations to aid wartime production. Авто/Мото
#630 and #4501 are both very beautiful steam locomotives indeed!
That whistle at the beginning
Music to my ears
1:40 that’s a beautiful whistle🥰✨
Amazing!
Thank you!
I really love the timeline detail they put on 630. 1918 to 2018, my my. She’s over 100 years old!
What I would give just to see her or 4501
My wife is tired of hearing me say “i was born in the wrong era”, but its just so true! Love the steam locos of the past....
Beautiful video, thank you!
Thanks!
Great video! Very well edited!
Thanks!
Wow...the shot from 10:00 to 10:30 is perfect. No signs of 21st century, or even late 20th century. That could be used as an establishing shot in a period piece film.
Under the right conditions and in the right locations, the 630 is kinda like "AWOOOOOOOOOO...", then taking a deep breath, and "...WOOOOOOOOOOO..."
Lol, sorry, I just love the associations that I'm having with it when it whistles, or rather howls like a gigantic wolf or something.
Many Thanks to SmokyMtnSteam for another great Video-- and for making the effort on a very important Armistice Day!! NEVER FORGET OUR VETERAN'S-- WE ALL OWE EVERYTHING TO THEIR COUNTLESS SACRIFICES!! THANKS TO EACH OF YOU, MY BROTHERS IN ARMS!!!!
Great video as usual. My wife and I rode the June doubleheader to Summerville and had a great trip.I used to ride TVRMs Autumn Leaf Specials back in the 70s to Crossville and a spring excursion in 1974 to Huntsville Alabama.I was only 13 at the time and a couple of my buddies went along (just us kids!).Boy how times have changed!I won't let my grandkids out of my sight today
Thank you for sharing, I wish I'd been around to see those excursions in the 70s & 80s.
9:00 my favorite whistle
Nothing beats a double-header. The same term is used in the UK.
Awesome!
Know it's been a while, you going to any of the 611 stuff at Strasburg? I am also planning on coming back down to Chattanooga this November if things pan out.
I managed to get a ticket to one the photo charters with 611 & 475 (dressed as 382) before they sold out, so I'll definitely be up there this fall. I might try to squeeze in a side-trip to see 425 if I can. Let me know when you're coming down south, I don't know what my schedule will allow me to do but maybe we'll meet trackside.
@@SmokyMtnSteam If all holds right now i am looking to come down Veterans day weekend but things change. I will see you at the Virginia Creeper charter as well! I got tickets for the day sessions both days.
Never been on it
Do you really need 2 Lockomotives for the few wagons?
No, either of these engines can handle the train alone, but it is fun to see them working together.
@@SmokyMtnSteam Ah, I see. - What is better than 1 locomotive? 2 locomotives!

1:41 Baltimore & Ohio 6 chime?
It’s actually a Boston & Maine 6 chime, but you were close.
@@RailfanDude610 Actually you stand corrected. She wears a Central Railroad of Georgia 6 Chime in this video
@@AdmiralColdhead I was told by TVRM that it was a B&M 6 chime variant of a Nathan 6 chime. The Central of Georgia whistle wasn’t the only 6 chime that 630 wore. In 2011, 630 typically wore a privately owned L&N 6 chime. From late 2012 to early 2016, 630 had the Central of Georgia 6 chime. As of 2018, even though it sounded similar, it wasn’t the CoG 6 chime. And I know this because it sounded absolutely nothing like it did whenever 630 was on the mainline. The last time that 630 wore the CoG 6 chime was in 2019.
@@RailfanDude610 Uh huh….
1:40
That 630's whistle sounds like nkp 765?
That’s because this whistle on 630 is a Nathan 6 chime just like 765’s. However, the one in this video is a B&M 6 chime variant of a Nathan 6 chime.
have you been to the west or the pacific northwest, because they have great steam locomotives.
I've been to the Durango & Silverton and the Grand Canyon Railway, and I intend to go back west next year for the Golden Spike celebrations.
@SmokyMtnSteam what video editer do you use
I've been using Sony Movie Studio 13 since 2015. It struggles with 4K footage so I plan to upgrade to a newer editor in the next year or so.
@@SmokyMtnSteam thank you very much i love your videos
@@SmokyMtnSteam I wonder when TVRM 610 will run again
B&M 6 chime?
That’s right, the whistle 630 has in this video is indeed a B&M 6 chime.
I wonder what kind of whistle the southern 630 wears?
Central of Georgia 6 chime. My favorite of 630's many whistles.
Wow cool! To me southern 630 whistle sounds like a mix between a SP 6 chime and a ATSF 6 chime.
@@DylanRailVids04 I see what you mean 6 chimes tend to have a deep blasting sound.
Yeah besides the Central of Georgia 6 chime southern 630 needs to wear is this: ruclips.net/video/XzXM4WNmuiU/видео.html
