Congrats Tom. The expression on your face when you lifted it off the mat says everything about how special a fish it was.
It truly was, still can't really get over it! Fishing is always full of surprises, most of the times that means snagging a tree 😂 but occasionally it's an incredible fish like this. Cheers for the kind words Tim :)
You know what, Tom, I think a filmmaker that learns how to fish well makes better content than stellar fisherman that learns to make youtube content. You prove that good storytelling and videography is more important than the size of the fish caught. I am a jealous individual and seeing other people pull endless giants makes me resentful, for instance i can't watch Ginger fisherman.
Haha, thanks for the kind words Chris. I'm an average angler at best, but I hope that makes my content relatable, and when I eventually do catch good fish, even more of a high!

Really cool video! If it's possible it'd be really interesting to see the unedited underwater footage of the fight with the monster pike from beginning to end.
Thank you! I'll definitely consider posting that, there's a lot of the camera shaking around where you can't see all that much, but it is fascinating to watch.

Come, seriously. It’s interesting to fish with a spinning rod here. You won’t regret it. It is especially interesting to fish in winter, as the water level becomes low and the river does not freeze@@tomwilshaw

Haha hey feel free!! The more time you have it down there, the more you learn about how the fish behave around your fishing tackle - Loads to be learned!
That'll teach you to always do the net first LOL. Interesting it was resting on weed so quite visible to the fish. My mates been out several times in the past weeks and all his dead bait Pike catches have been on popped up baits. I would certainly consider it if I went back to deadbaiting. Great video and excellent footage of the take. ATB MMMD
Ha you know it!!!!! Popped up baits is a tactic I've only recently become aware of, they definitely give you a lot more confidence that you're better presented, something I'll be doing more of in the future that's for sure :)
Try attaching a small float to the camera and have it that the weight breaks away when line snaps so camera can float up if your line snaps
Hi, I was wondering if you need a license to fish and where you can fish for predatory fish in London
You need a UK fishing license, and to check local permissions :) best thing is to pop into a tackle shop and have a chat!

If you don't like the waiting start catching pike like normal people, by casting.. UK people and your carp tactics, it's the "old people" way of fishing
I enjoy variety in my angling ☺️ Lure fishing's awesome, but setting traps and waiting is equally as exciting when the right moment finds you.

My local water, Lough Gara is a bit bigger .... at 3'100 acres, the pike have more hidey-holes... is it any wonder I blank more than catch... 🤓

It's like RUclips River Monsters. But the fighting with the fish only takes 20 seconds.

Awesome idea with the 360 camera , I use the water wolf for trolling for pike and Ferox 👍🎣
Some of the strikes I've seen from that camera are insane, definitely a bit easier to cast too!
Wow Tom. Great vid and congrats on that fish. And also great to see you down my local lake. If you are looking to continue with the underwater filming or are looking for another pike lake to fish, i would recommend visiting
Astwell mill lake near Towcester. Its only about a 30 minute drive from where you fished in the video and i believe you can get a day ticket for about £5. I was there last weekend and had 7 pike to 23lb in 6 hours. Thr water there is also crystal clear and quite shallow so it would probably be a great venue to film at. Anyway give it a look and tight lines 👍👍
I'll certainly give it a look, shallow water is also a secret ingredient to getting the best out of these cameras so sounds ideal! Thank you :)

Thank you Justas! I was using my carp rods, Daiwa Longbows with Emblem reels, probably a bit overkill but I needed the strength to get the cameras out there :-)

Funnily enough I am not! My wife and I merged our surnames when we got married, Henshaw and Williamson became Wilshaw - So the fact that there's another creative in the angling world with the same name is quite brilliant!!

@@tomwilshaw caldecotte that bay near the pub is no fishing, sign posted by green park trust signs, starts after the jetty somewhere. Just as some one has been banned last couple years for fishing OOB on numerous occasions, Dont want it to happen to anyone else by accident
@@davidgerman5073 I honestly didn’t see the signage, I checked the booklet before fishing and read that I couldn’t fish in front of the pub’s picnic area, which I thought I was clear of - Will refrain from doing so in the future, thanks for letting me know, genuinely!
