“Hype” often carries a somewhat negative context but at the same time is something absolutely crucial and essential for Dancehall. ⚡
A single moment, speech or line of a song can create an instant moment of.. well… HYPE!!! From 0 to a 100 reaaalllll quick, you find yourself with your hands above your head, screaming and feeling nothing but pure joy. In that moment nothing else matters.
The beauty of it all is that there’s hundreds of different ways for that “HYPE” to happen, or more specifically, to build up. 🌊 One of the most controversial Hypes of Dancehall for example: The Money Pull Up. 💸 🔊
And yeah.. we all know it.. you at some party, the vibe is awesome, and suddenly the Selector plays a song, that doesn’t
really fit the vibe. But some rich dude likes it, or is trying to push his artists, forcing the DJ to pull over that song like 3 times.
#Money Pull Up… 🤑 The Selector feels obligated to play it again and rightfully does so. Did it help the party? No.. Did people enjoy the song more because of it? .. Nah.. 😒 Perfect example of why the “Money Pull Up” has the reputation it has. Controversial.
But of course I also wanna give you an example of why and how the “Money Pull Up” is an amazing tool to actually fire up the party! 🔥
MC drops a heavy speech that a lot of people can relate to, followed by a song a loot of people absolutely love … you just got your pay check and all you can think of is “yooooo, lemme run over to the DJ and show my appreciation cause them baddddd” - therefore causing people around you to not only realise they are feeling the exact same, but also firing them up more to show appreciation for the music in different ways. More movement, scream louder, become a part of this thing that’s slowly building up here..💥 and everyone seems to be or become a part of it…🌪️ that dope feeling.. #HYPE! 🎯💯
