I now have a set of drawers with trays that hold all my extras. The problem is I keep adding to it, but rarely take from it lol
I use a couple of 4 x 6 plastic boxes that held CM Pocket Page inserts. Once a year I spend a day making cards with leftover bits, then I purge what I won't use. And start over. 😂
I have plastic envelope pockets from the dollar store. I throw them in a bin and "magic mug" myself by going to them first. It is a great way to use the stamps that I would normally overlook ! If it's stamped, cut, and ready to go, I'm going to use a stamp set rather than have it collect dust at the back of the row. You're such a fun source of inspiration ! Thanks for keeping it real !
Hi Laurel, I didn’t know I already had a “Magic Mug” until you told me what it was! But mine is a three ring notebook with trading card protector sheets…meaning 9 pockets per page. I have loads of pages filled with sorted sentiments, leaves, flowers etc. and for larger items, I use sheets with larger pockets. It’s wonderful to head to my Magic Mug Binder first as I usually find what I need. Thanks for your tips!
I love organization of all kinds. I do not however have anything thing pre-cut or pre-made. There is a giant drawer of scraps though. I need to get busy making something out of the mess I have hidden away.
Hi Laurel, I also have had a "magic mug" for years. It started like you in little bowls. I now have a couple little drawers that work great.
I took your advice and now I have a magic mug. It’s just a three section basket. I started finding the things I had cut out and while the dies and I precut a bunch of sentiments. I’ve started doing some stamping and coloring of stamps. It will take me awhile because I don’t have the energy to craft as long as I use to. I’ve been card-making since the early nineties I’ve had to change my style because I have a tremor in my hands but I still make lots of cards. I will adding to it when I have energy to add to it. Thanks again for your all your videos
Mine is magic mini drawers. I don't pull from them as often as I should. but i do. ALSO have drawers of colored cardstock scraps that i try to force myself to go to first before i cut a new piece.
Hi Laurel - I recently bought one of those plastic cases with little cases inside meant for photos and sorted all the things I laying around into colorful organized bins. It works great. Each case is labeled and I can put the case anywhere without messing things up. I just put out the case when I want to make something and it's perfect!
When you first pointed to your mug turned box, I immediately thought shoe box with cardstock folded on the inside to make compartments. I feel inspired😄
I use photo boxes for images and coupon files for sentiments.
One of the best tips ever! I use a mug for sentiment strips and then a pig bowl for larger sentiments.
What on earth is a pig bowl?
Fun!!! I was so curious about the "magic mug."
Love your "magic mug" idea! What a great way to pull together a quick card!
I have one of those double decker plastic boxes. Sentiments on top, images in the bottom.
I have used video tape boxes that otherwise would have been thrown away as we don't even have a video player any more. I use them for small card off-cuts (larger ones goes in plastic wallets) but now I see that I can also use them for die cuts and sentiments. Thanks for the great ideas!
Yes! I have two magic mugs. Like you, one for sentiments and the second for anything else. Love the concept and have been using it for years- thanks to you!!
My "mug" has been small plastic containers from the Dollar Tree. I used to tuck my sentiments with the die cut but, like you said, images & phrases need to be out to see.
I always knew I liked you but now I know why. I am addicted to true crime videos, too! My favorite is That Chapter -- he actually inserts humor into his videos, but only at the expense of the criminal, not the victim. What are your favorites?
You have a bonus box! Bonus some of my card creation has been pre-done!
I didn't have a magic mug, but I will within the hour after watching your video!
HAHAHA yay!
Too funny!! Thats my fav thing to do while crafting too- true crime shows/podcasts! :-) Glad im not alone! lol
I didn’t have a magic mug, but I will now! Thank you for the idea!
yay!
Thank u Laurel. I use a notebook with page protectors
1. For sentiments & words
2. Embellishments, negatives, die cuts etc.
Have a great, blessed night.
Great idea! I have a wooden thing like that I got from a subscription box but currently my mom decided to put my spare toothbrushes in it so she doesn't have to go upstairs to always get replacements! haha
Currently I use little zip pouches that I have when I finished using my medical supplies that were in it ... but they are not that good as they are opaque and have the medical brand on them and a little small ... but since I have lots of them I still kind of want to use them instead of just recycling them ... and they are free so 🤷♀ lol I'll need to label them properly or something ^.^
A wonderful idea, thanks Laurel. I need to use my die cutting machine more and have bits ready to use :)
Yes, I have a magic mug which is actually a box that I keep my extra pieces in. I'm always cutting apart labels, napkins, calendars, cards that are sent to me... LOL My favorite thing to do is rejig birthday cards that my family sends to me as thank you notes and send it back to them revamped. Super fun and no two are the same.
I rejig, too! Love your special word!
Great video. I will start to make my sentiments, my stenciled items and shapes.Thank you.
Thanks for validating my method of collecting “leftovers”. I have multiple collections but if I sorted them into sentiments, background die-cuts, and small stickers and die-cuts, I think I could quickly assemble a card. My current method is to keep extras with dies or stamps and also in various dishes or bags. Thanks for explaining your magic mug inventory management system….signed, a retired supply chain geek 😂
I love the name magic mug! I have a magic drawer with little snack bags of each shape or theme! Great ideas!
I started doing a magic mug of sorts, I use baseball pockets so I can see what I have easily and not have so much trouble keeping the word die-cuts separated. Thanks for your help!!
I started out with small bowls of stuff, then I gradually moved on to one of those bins that hold the small photo boxes and I’ve divided them into categories. I need to take a day and pick a box and use some of them up. I have too much stuff. Actually I’m going to go through them tight now and pull the ones that have been there for years and give them away at a crop this weekend! Thank you!! 🤓
I've had a "magic mug" box since 2015, but never use it! It may be because I don't mass produce or make random cards. Each card is made specifically for the recipient, with a defined scene/theme so nothing in the "box" ever works!
I have a 'bits box' full of all my left over bits, things I didn't use, things I made ahead of time etc..
YES YES! A bits box! I love it!
I have a cosmetic acrylic organizer. Mostly words but also stamped images.
Then I have a dish with that season card I’m working with it. Fall only items then will switch for Christmas.
Very cool, when I bought an iPad it came in a rectangle box, I knew I’d never sell it, so I managed through the family to-get 3 top layers, these hold my bits and pieces. I just call them *stuff* they sit on my desk, or I’d never use them.
I did love your magic mug - I like this idea even more! I have two sturdy flat boxes that I've divided à la Ceri the Crafter .... But done nothing with since. I'll dig it out and start with Christmas embellishments and sentiments. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this Laurel, much appreciated that you read and respond to our comments. Love it.
I love your idea! I created several trays from foam board to use as my magic mug. Thanks for the great idea!
I love your magic mug videos, one of the best tips ever! 🙏❤️
Awe, thanks so much!
I learnt this from you a while ago and it has saved me a lot of time looking for just the right piece everytime
This is such a great idea - thanks!
I have a magic envelope that isn’t working very well. I think it needs to evolve into a more accessible mug.
Great idea!!!
Laurel, where do you keep the dies - stamps- stencils themselves?
Curious-
For me, I have 5-6 inch binders- so I have them all separated-
Page protectors keep each item separated.
It’s ok- but wondering what you use.
Thanks, carol.
PS- you are the best!!!! 😊
See my latest video where I show exactly how to store. Its just a bin! :)
I love your magic mug 🥰 I storage my things, in small drawers, I have made ❤️ thanks for sharing and happy crafting Hugs xx
I love this idea and will have to put together something like this for myself. I have extras with the stamp sets they go with and this would make it much easier to have them out where I can use them.
I like how you think and organize... so close to me it's scary. 🙃
sentiments is separate by theme....birthday; holiday; thanks
My magic mug is actually 2 scrapbook boxes (12x12). They are chock full of labeled envelopes that contain all sorts of die cuts, ephemera, etc. 😂🤣😂
I think most cardmakers or scrappers have some variation of a "magic mug."
What is the glue that she uses? And what is the fine glue dropper?
Bearly Arts Glue!
What is KDP?
I have a "magic mug" in 3 separate spaces, too.
Magic mug ➡️ bewitched box! 😊
Do you sell a MAGIC MUG BAG
I’d use a big wooden salad bowl 😂
Fantastic Idea! I have one because I sure don't eat salad, lololol
Never to old for TikTok
I call my magic mug- a crap (craft) box
Dear Laurel, I'm going to use your "Magic Mug" idea with all my Stampin Up stamp sets. Every time I go into the drawer where I keep them I find a set that I could have used for something. So with your great idea, I'm going to use my case that @angelgarrison922 mentioned to organize my collection so that I can find them and use them. AWESOME IDEA! Thanks for sharing.
