Why is it always the drunk driver that survives...
They are made of rubber. Tensing up does way more damage in a collision than being all loosey goosey in the elbows and knees, fingers and toes. I was in two identical accidents. In one I saw the hazard and tensed up, in the other I didn't know it was coming. I got a sore neck in the surprise accident, but a torn rotator cuff in the one I saw heading for me. Both were less than 5 mph, struck from behind. No car damage at all.

I was on the jury in a drunk driving case (no injuries). The defendant seemed like a nice guy. He had an expensive lawyer and a good story. I KNEW we had to find him guilty because of the evidence. But it was hard. I hated to do it. But we did, because of what you said.

No A/C in Florida state run prisons. Private run prisons have A/C but he won't qualify for them.

This individual was not drunk while driving. He had taken pain medication and had been smoking marijuana that day which led to the accident. One does not need to drink alcohol to be a danger to the public.

I gave a ride a few years ago to a man at the clinic. On the way home he told me he got Xanax every month and he loved them. Two weeks later I'm watching news. A man was helping a lady put gas in her car when a guy ran into her rear and killed the man pouring the gas then went two blocks hit a stop sign and passed out. That's where he was arrested. They show him and it's that guy I gave the ride too. They said he blacked out and remembers nothing. I bet he is still in jail. You sober up and find out holy crap I screwed up. Bet you money several people told him your going to kill someone.

We had a Xanax driver go through the house at the end road(the end of the road!). He ended up killing a 16 year old girl who was sleeping in her bed at 3 am in the morning. He tried to back up his van . The poor girl was screaming in pain just before she died. The neighbor stopped the man from leaving the scene. He wasn't drunk or stoned.He was just going to Pizza Hut to pick up a pizza at 3 am. Blood test proved him wrong. Booze and Xanax and he was from a foreign country. I can't begin to tell you how many cars have landed on the roofs of the houses at the end of the road. We,now,have flashing stop signs and speed bumps and large cement pillars to stop cars from hitting the house. Still ain't stooping them.

This is the saddest thing I've seen in a long-*ss time. Yes, the driver is a mess and all kinds of wrong. All of it is Ugly. And, the entire room surrounding him are hurting deeply in different ways. What in the world has happened to our social structure and culture that has so many in a pile up of defendants & victims & survivors? It's easy to snipe snarky comments, but I don't think judgmental assumptions or piousness has a place in compassion. Dang. I just reflect for myself that I keep enough together to not be there---but, it is grace that spares me.
