They really caught lightning in a bottle with that HBO show. Both seasons are pure masterpieces of comedy. I own them on DVD and revisit them on a regular basis.
i just watched it first time in 2021 (i love british comedy and play guitar, how have i not seen it before) and dont think i have re-binged a show so many times. in love with this pair of kiwi rock gods
No wonder the show was so good. They really did everything, and worked so hard. It also makes sense why they didn't do a Season 3. Quality over quantity any day.
Nah. They didn't do a third season because almost all of the songs that they'd spent years perfecting were spunked away on the first season, presumably because they had no idea they'd get a second. They then used the few that they didn't use for the first season in the second and were still left having to write a load of songs in a short space of time, attempting to match the quality of the songs from the first season, which, again, they'd taken years to perfect. Not a lot of fun for them. And it'd have been even harder had they had to do that all over again for a third season. They sort of painted themselves into a corner with regards doing the show for multiple seasons, unless they'd decided to take songs composed by friends or other people, which seems against the ethos of the show. I was holding out hope that they'd do a film, after they'd had enough to write songs in between all their other projects, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen, sadly.
Quality over quantity; and when it's not fun any more that's a good time to end the run. If you're not enjoying the creativity, it becomes forced and the work you're exhausting yourself for yields decreasing returns. They were smart enough to realize that before it became a misery. I'm just thrilled they each have gone on to do other fantastic work, with all the recognition they deserve.
Two amazing comedians supported perfectly by the rest of the cast. Right up there with the cream of TV comedy shows like Fawlty Towers, IT Crowd, Father Ted, Dark Place and Snuff Box. .
Awesome. Saw them live in Hastings NZ. Went to Florida for a holiday and this woman in a shop went crazy when she heard my accent.. Omg The Flight of The Conchords are my favourite.. She says... Such a nice experience 😍👌
I've been a fan since they were 9th on the list. We honeymooned in New Zealand and they gave us a CD outside after a nice dinner and show. Sorry. Dinner and a movie. We were looking for our car. Great stuff.
Makes sense why a S3 didnt get made. It was already a pretty exhausting process even with a back catalog of songs to write the show around. A third season wouldve probably taken them years to complete.
What a strange dichotomy of fans for Jemaine in particular; on one end of the spectrum are the ones who walk right up and act like they're friends from way back, and way on the other end are the ones he walks up to at conventions who refuse to believe he's who he says he is (see his interview with Jimmy Fallon about surprising some Moana fans).
...all that hard work paid off: FoTC are now a Stadium act. But you guys always worked well in small venues or the small screen: it would be fun to bring that back.
I'm not sure why they'd have to keep it a secret from the chap asking them if the show was a totally new idea or not, but Flight of the Conchords was originally a 2005 six-episode show on BBC Radio 2 that they later turned into the HBO show. Some of the scenes get re-used for the TV version, but well worth a listen if you can find the episodes somewhere.
You could see them sort of take a half second where they were about to maybe bring it up but the DJ kept talking and they both telepathically seem to agree "we have limited air time, lets just follow this yanks narrative"
There was also going to be a New Zealand show but sadly it never got picked up so they went to America. It was rather a different concept to the HBO one though. Not sure they were keeping their past a secret though, probably just trying to keep the interview brief and interesting.
I was a bit sorry they didn't mention the BBC radio series, especially when introducing Murray as Rhs Darby played the manager in that as well. If anyone hasn't listened to it yet, take it from me that you should!
A bit too late for me to be a fan. When the show aired I was too young to know better. Now there’s no more tv shows. Just binging on two seasons and listening to their two albums on repeat.
레몬레인 genius! Have you been watching the new show? (What we do in the Shadows”) I was afraid it wouldn’t stand up to the film, but it’s actually really really good
This is the 12th comment made for this video. Mine was the 212th thumbs up. You You must have scrolled past hundreds of loving fan based comments to read this. Sorry, I didn't really say something better. Hardly worth posting after all the praise for the guys & the marriage proposals to Kristen. Perhaps I will think of something better for the next video I comment on.
You just have to appreciate the totally unprepared DJ. The guy who's done zero research into the guests and learns all about them DURING THE SHOW. Hey, if they had a work ethic, they wouldn't still be in radio would they?
A cross over would be incredible. I could see Howard trying desperately to impress the conchords and maybe even try and become their third member and screwing Vince over but conchords thinking vince is cool and trying to emulate his style, so howard ultimately ends up in a band with two Vince-impersonators. That seems to fit thematically with how both shows episodes usually play out :3
if only they saw youtubes love for dem, all who hear it tend to like it, cept that blue car guy from scottland, maybe they should be on the internet more instead of cable to get attention

and their heartwarmingly hilarious manager
@@chrispatel3542 Who's that, Ginger balls?
EVery thing they have ownership in isperfection!
So much talent!
Wow I love how Brett says he loves the muppets and he went on to write music for them and win awards for those songs
Speaking of Bret and the Muppets------check this out ruclips.net/video/gnO75DHfxTA/видео.html

Rumour had it they couldn't wake Germaine.

Now ten years ago.
“I like the Muppets ... and Leonard Cohen”. Now I understand the heart of “Am I a man or a muppet”.
Bret’s face at 22:03 after they tell him how quickly the show sold out. What an amazing feeling that must have been!
Rhys Darby was a genius on that show.
just absolute class. how he wasnt interviewed for the office job, is a travesty
Eyy Gingerballz
You gotta be deaf to hear that
I've been a fan since they were 9th on the list. We honeymooned in New Zealand and they gave us a CD outside after a nice dinner and show.
Sorry.
Dinner and a movie.
We were looking for our car.
Great stuff.
The best radio station avalable in this area.
Makes sense why a S3 didnt get made. It was already a pretty exhausting process even with a back catalog of songs to write the show around. A third season wouldve probably taken them years to complete.
That's right, they had a mermaid song! This hits differently just coming here from S2 of Our Flag means Death ❤
I saw them in concert in KC . They are so good!
Woah! Directed by Brett's wife! She did a great job!

I gave them five voices to choose from and they chose number 3, which was my own voice.

i was wondering how far i would have to scroll down before someone made your point! US entertainment re-writing history again?

Oh, I came in on the end! Dang, I love these guys.
Love them. Miss them.
I saw their Bonnaroo gig and it was great!! :D
Love’ em, GENIUSES! NZ for life!
Thanks so much for posting this! Still haven't seen them live but really looking forward to their new HBO special
jonnbruin they are very funny live
Bretts face after hearing how fast the show sold out 😂😂
I can understand why they wouldn't want to do a 3rd season.
So interesting! Great interview!
AMAZING I have never seen this thank ou!
I was a bit sorry they didn't mention the BBC radio series, especially when introducing Murray as Rhs Darby played the manager in that as well. If anyone hasn't listened to it yet, take it from me that you should!
Now i want a heaping bowl of delicious, nutritious Flakies!
Austin has grown so much since this time...it looks like a different city nowadays.
poor dudes now I completely understand why they didn't make a 3rd season at that time lol such an exhausting process
I'd pay to watch them read the phone book. I just saw Jermaine in "Avatar - Way of Water" - he plays a pretty big role.
A bit too late for me to be a fan. When the show aired I was too young to know better. Now there’s no more tv shows. Just binging on two seasons and listening to their two albums on repeat.
Brahbara
Mel was the first OnlyFan
How do they stay so modest?
Please come back!
Best answer: "Jerry Lewis and Jerry Lee Lewis."
Thank you. So funny.
16:48 Taika Waititi

Haha Stu who was about to double team Coco 🤣
Great stuff.
It's weird they dont mention the radio show they did for the BBC before the HBO show it trials a lot of the ideas
Their impressions of Rhys Darby are both terrible and so authentic lmao
8:45 not sure if this is an insult, but it's an hilarious description
Love it . ❤️

Yeah, your comments need some work, pal.
You just have to appreciate the totally unprepared DJ. The guy who's done zero research into the guests and learns all about them DURING THE SHOW. Hey, if they had a work ethic, they wouldn't still be in radio would they?
Who would win a Fight between Mighty Boosh and Flight of the Conchords ?
A cross over would be incredible. I could see Howard trying desperately to impress the conchords and maybe even try and become their third member and screwing Vince over but conchords thinking vince is cool and trying to emulate his style, so howard ultimately ends up in a band with two Vince-impersonators. That seems to fit thematically with how both shows episodes usually play out :3
We all would.
Could see Germaine dancing in little blue pants
God for there sake I hope those guys from the prison show aren’t going to be released in the near future for Brett and Jemaine’s sake
2009? This video should have been posted many years ago.
yeah you should have posted it, Evan...
I didn't have it nor knew it ever existed until I saw it here.
You're a dick, evan.
22:15 what song is he singing?
These guys are the Ween of New Zealand
Do Brett and Jermaine share one beard?
Yo I love the show
But what about Murray???
HBO is a fan of NewZealanders
Bill Cosby and Billy Idol.
Who is that at 12:06?
He maybe did.
38 or 39 year old man accidentally got stuper soned and watched this and i gotta stop cuz i gotta pick up my kid from daycare
You seem uncertain about your age so, how certain can you be that you actually have a kid that needs picking up from daycare? Also, can I have a toke?
10:46 Only fans predicted

'Is it gay?'
"No musicians from any part of the world would start work before 11"
Piss off
you piss off.
Yeah! You piss off
