@@MisterMemo yes on my ford Ranger the tailgate handle is plastic and it always breaks with a little research I found out that the 98 Ford ranger tailgate handle is made out of metal never had that problem since 👍🏽😃
Poor design honestly, i get pissed when my rods pop out, in thinking about threading the rods and screwing nuts on the motherfuckers so it will never happen again
wd40 works wonder for tailgate operation. that was your entire problem to begin with. no lube. that and new grommets that were worn out in the handle and lubing up the handle's mechanism.
Again another part I allowed to go unreplaced till after 10+ years. Simple fix and now the handle on my tailgate works great!
Thanks Memo. Just what I needed to see.
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful. 😎👍🏽

@@jamesfcookjr Nice!! Metal handles always last longer than plastic ones!

Mine are original, but you can get some at www.lmctruck.com
What can I do to get the tailgate open when the latch rods are missing
😢😢
@@jamesmomon25 never had that issue, but if I had to open it. I’d put something flat into the side latches to push them in.
Thank you so much!! Love your channel. JUST SUBBED
Thanks for the support!
@Mister Memo it's a must to replace the latch rods?
@@IAmTonySmith I think that the whole weakness part. Might as well replace it while your already taking it apart. 🤷🏻♂️
I want to replace my tailgate but one of the rods is missing how do I get it to open ?
Great question! I've never had that issue but I'm assuming by removing the handle you'll have access to the inside to help release the tailgate
Where did you order your parts from
From my Amazon store. Links in the video description.
I have never had to replace the rods on these OBS trucks. It always the handles. I have four of them.
Thanks for the info! the rods weren't that much more so I decided to replace them :)
@@MisterMemo Classic case while you are there.

I agree! I never added any lube since I bought it new.
Good video, but I think the handle was the problem all along.
Could have been, but it’s not that much more money to fix the whole thing.
