When I first started your course, I would always sign flat... the way I fixed this was to record a piano track into my DAW of single notes that sustained for a few seconds each, then I created a track for my microphone and added a tuner to it in order to monitor my pitch. This helped me learn what it felt like to be on pitch and it fixed my flatness. I still place a tuner on all of my vocal performances after I record them just to make sure my pitch is on point. I've actually had some friendly disagreements with folks on the KTVA forums telling me that "this note here, and this note there" weren't on pitch, but I assured them that they were, even double checking the tuner for reassurance, I'm assuming they just didn't like how I sounded and that is fine but..... the pitch was on darn it!! lol
Dude, just by watching videos like this, and now my singing voice I actually like the tone of, and I'm having fun with it now, it's not something I'm self conscious of anymore.
Ken, this is an awesome way to learn a song especially when having difficulties with pitch, I use karaoke version and also learning a song on acoustic guitar making good progress!!
Thanks again. Your channel is top notch! I am an extreme do it yourselfer so I figured out techniques like this on my own It was both enlightening and very helpful. I have never used Karaoke versions . I use the OG music and do my best to copy the vocal.notes, inflection, meter etc and sing over it. Then I write a midi bass and/or a piano track for reference . Finally I isolate my track and start working on it. If I had started doing this decades ago, I'd be singing like a champ by now :)
Ken Tamplin’s voice is absolutely enchanting, he reminds us of Gram Parsons spirit & passion. Truly heavenly, thank you Ken, for sharing this moment of serendipity.
biggest problem for me is singing without a guitar which is often in the studio. just like when mixing, the ears get tired after a while. It sounds good for the moment but the next day 80% of the tracks are Delete.
Thanks 🙏 good advice as usual. My problem is during the real-time/ live singing I really thought and feel that I am in tune. But when I listen to the recording again- whaat? I don’t remember singing like that! haha😅
Hey Ken! I liked your story in the description. I forgot where you grew up? I'm not a beach person but I do like the sights and people watching. Sunrise or sunset? 🌄🌅🌇😎
Thanks for sharing the tips Ken most of the time my pitch is good I can usually stay in pitch hardly ever off pitch unless I'm screaming or hitting certain high notes out of my range or stuff like that that's when I get pitchy or off pitch it could always use improvement though Ken that's for sure buddy
Great way to practice listening… but the most important thing not mentioned is you have to hear yourself! If you don’t hear yourself you’re gonna be off key without a doubt. I remember seeing something with Celine Dion and her monitor setup on stage. She was so particular about the placement. I’ve seen the best singers in the world off key and it was because they couldn’t hear themselves!
Ken - Excellent content as usual! I have your course, and it is very good. I also learn a lot through these videos as well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and helping us to become better singers! An unrelated question -- Could you please tell me what the name of the song is that closes out this video? I keep getting that snippet stuck in my head, and I'd like to get the full version of the song if I could. Thx!
GREAT idea! I love the idea of having a way to make different musical arrangements of the same song to help practice nuancing different vocal techniques. Bravo!
Ken - neat way to do it, I do it with a women's chorus I direct, but I think I'll push it a little more! Question though, I used to sing in quartets, choirs, etc (not really a soloist) on pitch. Now though, the pitch in my head sounds bang on (even on the top of the note) but what comes out of my mouth is always several cents flat. I have a great ear, I tune pianos, hear beats, all that - but this is what has somehow happened to me. So - think it's physical or neurological?
Can you change the key - go up or down a step, half step or a minor third or a fourth, fifth, octave? Sorry if someone answered this already. I haven’t read all the comments. Thank you for sharing your experience and info. You ''da best!
I doubt my ears so much cause my Dad has perfect pitch and has called me out on some "bum" chords while learning songs LOL . @ 4:44 is that high C harmony a lil flat starting out ? I've worked in construction for over 20 years and lately I've been doubting my ears :(

I'm glad that you upload a lot of free lessons. Thanks Ken :)
Felt it working.. Easy song to follow and go with. Thanks Ken.

That golden button on the wall looks good, congrats!
This is very cool Ken. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for this video Ken. Also, you look great with those glasses.
You are always right
this is awesome. I've found that most pitch exercises change notes too quickly for a novice.
Very nice of you Ken, to share your secrets with us. ;)
Ooo this is gonna be so much FUN! Thanks Ken such an inspiration for us all🙏☀✨🎤🎶🎧
love your videos man! Anyway you could do a “what makes this singer great “ on Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys ?
Love the enthusiasm and character. You're a good teacher.
Great idea for at home learning and practice, Ken, thanks!
Glad it was helpful, Matthew!
I do this when I am song writing. Sometimes I play the vocal reference on keyboard then I sing with it, then I take it.

So much positive energy!
Also, always giving pragmatic advices.
I love it.
I like to even sing songs in a cappella, record and listen back several times and then sing to backing scores to then record.😉
Thanks Ken

Wow, great idea. Cheap too. EDIT: LOL that sounded ambiguous. Great advice all the way around.

Ken, your singing voice reminds me of Tommy Shaw. Really nice!
Thanks Ken. I admire your energy.
I would never spend $2.99
on anything except maybe a nice bud.
I could practice all day but the only problem i have is space...and ofc i cant sing infront of anyone also
Does it help to have a good ear? A degree of relative pitch to be able to sing in perfect tune?
Ken, are your ears perfectly trained. For example, can you recognize intervals and chords by ear like Rick Beato? I was just curious
yes!
🎸🎤👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😘😘KEN ❤️
You forgot to mention the most important thing. Know the melody a billion percent! That's 95 percent of it
Hey what kind of mic do you like to use?

When I hit the pitch, dogs start yowling. I Gotta work on it.
What, bar 118? 4:25
not bar, 1:18 minute mark
❤️❤️❤️🙏❤️❤️❤️
Ok...but more importantly, what's the secret to having great flowing rock hair?..
First?
