  • Meet Todd & Morgan McKellips, the lovely couple who are helping others experience, build, and live legally in tiny houses across the state of Washington. Enjoy a tour of 3 very different THOWs & learn about 3 tiny house state laws they help get passed! ❤️ Todd & Morgan lived in a tiny converted office loft when they first got married while struggling to make ends meet. Ultimately, this experience led Todd to take over the Seattle Tiny Homes building company and start the Washington Tiny House Association. Later, they had the opportunity to buy the Roots Collective Farm. There, they run the Tiny Home Hotel, build tiny homes, and support local nonprofits like a food bank.

      We need a lot more acceptance in Canada as well. There are so few places to put them. The builders are also making as mint with no provisions to park them. They can cost upward of $ 180,000.

    Every time I personally watch a tiny house video weather its just an individual or a builder, or a village, I look for little acts of genius but mostly I look for thoughtfulness in the building. These folks don't live in a tiny house so I question if they've built anything that is thoughtful, and I still look for those acts. Steep stairs with no rails and ladders that are easy to climb but going down in the dark when you need to go and don't want to go in your PJ's. Houses for older, even elderly. The next time you go home to your standard home, when you get to your doorway, drop to you knees and crawl to your bed, and when you get up crawl back to the door and after a few nights of doing that you'll get tired of it fast. Try getting yourself a futon couch and sitting on it for a year, I promise it'll suck after a while. Now I know a standard flushing toilet is way cheaper then a composting toilet but a good amount of tiny house dwellers left the flusher by the side of the road because a composting toilet is by far better and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to use one. I have a mental list of red flags and I could go on and on about them but maybe I should just write a book.

    Washington state allowing tiny house communities is a start. But if you can't legally put it on the privacy of own land, then that's just trash regulation. We need legislation allowing legal tiny house living on land greater than 1-2 acres.

    • @TinyHouseExpedition
      @TinyHouseExpedition  12 дней назад

      Agreed! You can put them on single lots in parts of the state, but definitely need more acceptance. Check out a tour of Lawerence’s fully legal tiny house on his land in Shelton, WA: ruclips.net/video/qHbQJ0syQMk/видео.htmlsi=i7R65BqJEKj1O4Gg

    Our government keeps talking about building affordable housing, but then the rents they charge are so not affordable. We have a large homeless sector who live on the street with and without tents which offer no protection from the elements. Tiny houses are the answer.

    I love the video, but you might want to stop voting for the people who put others in tiny homes. They don't live in them. As for the homes, I really like them, and I only wish happiness to those who live in them. I am trying to find a homeless solution, also. I am looking at giving the people some building skills, like carpentry, basic electrical and plumbing. To give them a path out of homelessness hopefully.

      @@mindonthespirit1543 From what I have learned about the subject. Unless you need to move a lot, like you want to travel or job, you would be far better off to have a permanent foundation. Hook up to city or county water. The problem seems to be that many places will not let you live in a camper for over x amount of days. I have worked with some people building their own tiny homes, they are not certified, I not sure how that would effect finance or living times. We have some older people, older than me, who want to live by the water in a vacation atmosphere. They sold their regular homes and went tiny on a private lake. Having tiny homes or park models seems to be the way around that problem here. I would check your local ordnances.

  • @sashabenoit1518
    @sashabenoit1518 14 дней назад +3

    It's not a solution to homelessness when they cost $100k+...
    Housing just isn't affordable anymore. My 1,400 sq/ft 2 bed & bath Mobile Home was worth around $50k only 5 short years ago. Now it's worth just about $200k. The 2,500 sq/ft 3 bed 2 bath house on a half acre that I came from before I downsized to this Mobile Home 9 years ago, sold for just over $200k and now it's worth nearly half a million! It's absolutely ridiculous. Even building a house these days is absurdly expensive. A single sheet of decent plywood is like $600 bucks, it's around $10-20k on average just for a roof, and windows for your house can easily cost you $30k. Nevermind the incredibly nonsensical cost of getting all of the permits, inspections, and other bureaucratic fee. Also, if you're buying land to put your house on, just the land alone is outrageously inflated in price and the taxes are absolutely ridiculous and constantly going up all the time.
    Anyways, the main thing that needs to be done is there needs to be regulations in place that restrict big developers and corporations from buying too much residential properties and also put a restriction on short term rentals. These two things are the number one cause, by far, that is responsible for the housing market crisis. We need more long term rentals and private citizens owning houses to bring the market down to a more reasonable place. Then we need inflation and interest rates to come down but given the state of our economy and the insane amount of national debt from our Government overspending and mismanaging funds, I don't see that one getting better any time soon unfortunately.

    • @TinyHouseExpedition
      @TinyHouseExpedition  12 дней назад

      They don’t all cost $100k. There are numerous lower cost tiny homes. 😃 But we hear you on how crazy expensive just about everything has become!

    • @sashabenoit1518
      @sashabenoit1518 12 дней назад

      @@TinyHouseExpedition I hear you but in general, they're averaging around $100k and up and a lot of the cheaper ones that I've seen are so stripped down and basic, you would have to put a lot into it just to make it work. Not to mention the difficulty in finding a decent, reliable builder. Obviously you're paying for quality and quality matters when you're making such an important long term investment. The other factor at play here is supply and demand. And unfortunately, the reality that we now live in is that tiny houses are quickly becoming very high in demand as they are one of the only "affordable" options that people seem to have in this current economy, which in turn is increasingly driving the prices up. It's just not sustainable. Only a few short years ago, no reasonable person would pay what these tiny homes cost today because only a few short years ago you could buy an actual house with a small lot of land for that amount. The same issue is happening in the RV industry with camper vans now costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. It's just gotten wildly out of control and it's only going to get worse unfortunately.
      Anyways, the point I'm trying to make is that it's not a solution to homelessness. It's technically just a temporary bandaid on the housing crisis that's pushing regular home owners out of their homes because they no longer can afford them but the more the supply and demand goes up from that happening, especially in this economy, this too will eventually become unaffordable because we're not addressing the root cause of these issues. I just wish that we could get back to a place where tiny homes could go back to their original intended purpose of being an alternative housing OPTION for people who wanted to downside, live minimally, or not be stuck to a foundation, instead of being a last RESORT option between that or homelessness. It's just really sad to see.. 😕

  • @jeffreyclarke736
    @jeffreyclarke736 7 дней назад

    They're cute, but they offer no solution, aa you still don't own the land and can be priced out by lot and utility increases by your Blackrock landlord. You will own nothing and be miserable and eat the bugs. No thank you WEF.
