    It is always a guess wether or not a hive survives a removal, especially when the derth is on. This hive proved it's strength and ability to endure as you will see for yourself after watching the video. A few surprises did occur, the most noteworthy is the change in the attitude of the bees, much less aggressive. The second, even though they had a queen, they superseded her and made a new one. Unfortunately, I did not find her. Still, all things being considered, these bees future looks bright. Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks for watching. God's peace to all.

    Sure hope that drought breaks and you have a mega nectar flow next spring. Last season was very ordinary for us so I know how much of a worry it is that the girls have enough Winter stores.
    I have pulled 14 kilo off my Flow Hive so far this Spring here in Perth, Western Australia. 4 Flow frames and 2 frames from the Honey super under the Flow super. Checked the Girls this morning and already they are refilling the 2 Flow frames I harvested on Monday. At that rate I expect to see the girls filling the 2 frames I harvested yesterday by mid next week. Happy with that as that hive re Queened late last Summer. We are perhaps 3 or 4 weeks off the Jarrah and Marri trees flowering so I predict harvesting at least 60 - 80 kilo off the Flow hive and at least 40 kilo off my Langstroth, judging by the number of Bees in that colony and how fast they built 10 frames of comb (3 of which were 90% filled last Monday when I checked) Anyhoo, God bless you all and have an amazing weekend.

      Where in Perth are your hives? Looking like a good year this year as I’ve already harvested in Morangup & West Swan. 🤞 keeps that way as last year was MISERABLE for my 🐝 fed all but the Morangup bees all season.

      @@rachelstone4967 We are in the Hills near Wungon Dam. Thankfully we didn't need to feed our girls as there was enough Winter forage available to keep them happy. I did have to pull one frame out of my established hive to give to my young colony as a boost.

    That is going to be tough for that queen to get mated, and more so with every day that passes. But the temperament is a good sign they are queen-right, and at least a few drones were still present in that hive, so that bodes reasonably well for them still being around in other local colonies and drone congregation areas as well. I hope they don't pick up any of the over-defensive traits in the process. If you have skunks around there, Frederick Dunn has done some great experiments on how they can make hives very defensive, even working out what height to raise the hive to for the largest skunks to have to expose their sensitive underbelly to stinging if they try to stretch up, and although I could easily be mistaken (no skunks to worry about here in the UK, so it was more the process than the result which was of any relevance to me), I think it was 36 or 38" for the height of the stand that worked for him.
    I think the longer the nurse bees are off the brood in the process of a cutout, the more brood is lost, and if a lot of brood dies, the bees' standard response is supersedure,

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  7 месяцев назад

      Very true about the response to nurse bees being off brood during a removal. Still, I was surprised to see all those superseding cell and grateful to know one was in there. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.

    Hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving day.
    I want to also thank you for your knowledge on turning honey back from sugar. I had a bottle I bought that turned to sugar now I'm getting it back to usable honey.on my stove is a warming burner I got it on low I put water in the pan and a heavy plastic piece to sit the honey jar on cause it's also plastic. Don't want it to melt so I keep the water warm on this burner on low. It's working out really well It's about half way done but I still got those crystals in it so I have a ways to go. I didn't know how to do this I did it once in the micro wave very hot and it melted it enough to use but it was back in a few days to sugar so I tossed it out. But now that you taught me how to do it I won't be tossing any sugared honey out no more. I'd love to get some honey from the abby you have but I live in KY and I'm to old to drive that far. Do you send honey out Of state? Cause when you taste that honey right out of the hive I want some too. Never had honey like that. My daddy use to get honey with the comb but that's so hard to find now that was many years ago. Have a blessed day good luck with these bees on getting settled. They sure look good. I would love to come on one of your adventures of removal of a bee hive. It looks like you have so much fun doing it plus you have lots of work too. God Bless You and all your helpers you have to help you and God bless all your bees to make great honey for you. Thank You for teaching people that don't know about bees and honey.

Guessing people could learn a thing or two from bees? lol Hope y'all have had an enjoyable Thanksgiving, the young fella and Good Time Charlie too. Must be a challenge tolerating those 60 degree temperatures though lol. Up in these parts, could warm up to 20 today, and that is 20F not 20C lol. Next time can you speak a little louder, it was hard to hear over the bees trying to kill the camera. I wasn't sure whether to compare it to a hailstorm on a roof or a machine gun at a firing range. Hi, another great video. You talk about the bees making queens, but I can't figure out how they "make" a queen. Could you tell me how that is done? Does the current queen have to lay an egg for them? I can't figure out what goes on there.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  7 месяцев назад

      There are 2 ways a colony produces a new queen without swarming. First by making a superseding cell and in this way the old queen lays an egg in the cell that was made for the occasion. The second way, and emergency cell. In this fashion the egg was previously laid by the queen to become a worker bee, but since the queen has died expectantly, the worker bees build a cell around an already laid egg and begin feeding it royal jelly to produce the new queen. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching. God's peace Joy.

    Heya :) love the video!
    I'm wondering, why is your Channel called Jeff Horchoffs bees when you're called Mr. Ed?

      Glad to hear you enjoyed the video, thanks so much for taking the time to watch it. The name "Mr. Ed" was given to me the day I began working at the Post Office back in '82. Then, for the next 27 years while working at the PO, that is what everyone called me. When I started my RUclips channel, because I loved the name so much, I decided to call myself that. Also, in case you did not know, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace brother.

    Great follow up. - really great info. Useful to know a week is long enough to re-orientate to new location relatively close to old side. Did a removal from a downed tree last weekend & talked the guy into having them back as a second colony but his hive was too far away on the property to just rehouse & move a metre (3ft) a day & over rough ground. Thought I’d need to keep them @ mine for a month before taking back. You’ve saved me from feeding them to get them more established 😉
    Question: considering you’ve probably got a milder climate will they be able to fill in the gaps at the top of the frames or will they wait until spring to build comb? Thanks again - love your & Charlies work!!

  • @joeyl.rowland4153

    They way those bees are acting I am going back to my original statement, those are Russian Bees. When it gets hot in the spring those bees will be testy. They are very good producers, but I prefer more docile bees. Better you than me. Those girls puffed up.
    I think it was a good idea you suited up. Everytime I get bees like that I sell them, pollinator companies like those bees, they have more numbers and they produce a lot of honey and yes they pollinate well.

    What are the chances they throw a swarm and then end up back in the camper? Great ending to such a big removal guys.

    Why is the comb so dark? I knew it was that color in the camper but I thought it was just a result of being in a bad environment.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  6 месяцев назад

      The reason the comb is so dark is because it is very old, at least 5 to 7 years. As comb gets older it gets darker from use and the traffic of bees walking over it.Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.

    Where do we go to join your membership? I don't have a join option on this channel. Also, do the bees change color with the seasons, these guys seem like they are a darker color.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  7 месяцев назад

      To my knowledge, bees do not change colors. There are several different shades of colors for bees, these bees happen to be darker. My guess is that is due to their genetics. I believe these bees are Russian's based on their aggressiveness and their darker color, all aspects of that species. Thanks for watching. God's peace Karen.

    Hello Mr Ed
    You look good as always
    How is everything on the western hemisphere ?
    i was making a replica of the spinner machine to separate my wax and honey . And i have one question
    1. What is the speed (rpm) you set the spinner so as to separate your honey?
    May God bless you

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  7 месяцев назад

      The speed is a variable one. You need to start slow and then increase the speed as the load balances out. Best wishes to your successes. God's peace brother.
