I'm standing on the edge of a crowded rooftop, the city lights sprawling beneath me like a blanket of stars. The air is warm, and there's a buzz in the atmosphere, a mix of laughter, music, and clinking glasses. This party is full of people, but I've never felt more alone. I'm searching for something-or maybe someone-but I don't know what that is yet. The view is breathtaking, skyscrapers stretching high into the sky, their windows twinkling like diamonds. It's mesmerizing, and for a moment, I forget about everything else. Then, I hear a soft voice behind me, pulling me back to reality. "Beautiful, isn't it?" he said, stepping into the space beside me. I glance over and see a stranger with a kind smile and eyes that seem to hold secrets. "Yeah," I reply, a little startled. "It's like the city is alive." We stand in silence for a moment, watching the world below. There's something comforting about his presence, a sense of calm that I didn't know I needed. As the night goes on, we talk about everything and nothing-our favorite places, dreams we've never shared with anyone, and the fears we keep hidden. With each word, the distance between us seems to shrink, as if we've known each other forever. For the first time in a long time, I feel understood, like I've found a missing piece of myself in this unexpected connection. Just a little promotion for the story I'm writing POV Background: You're a Psychology Major, living alone in an apartment near college trying to stay away from your mafia family. "I keep feeling that someone's out there. Watching my every move, my every breath. And I know I should be freaked out about it, but it also kinda excites me" I was coming back from my college and it got dark really soon. All I wanted was to take a long hot shower, eat ramen and watch Netflix after this long day. The alleys tend to get darker at this time of the day, with creeps lurking around. Generally, they are no threat to me since most of them are there for the peddlers to get their "stuff" and the rest are a bunch of college bullies who couldn't care less about me. But still, I keep a swiss-knife as my keychain all the time. Mom insisted on me taking that along with a licensed gun for my protection just in case. You see, my family is kinda like a mafia. So I grew up knowing my way around these shady people. Although that's not the future I envisioned for myself, so I left the house, giving the excuse for higher studies. I wanna be a Psychology professor, or atleast a writer if I can. I think I'll make a decent career as an author cause, imagine the kind of stories I'll have being from a family of Mafias. I was about to turn around the corner to get to my apartment, when a sudden chill went down my spine. Someone was here. Instinctively, I grabbed my swiss-knife and turned around to look. Nothing but shadows. This is not the first time I've felt like someone was close around me. Watching me. Maybe one of my family's enemies found out I was living here. But I couldn't say for sure unless the bastard showed up. I thought of asking dad about it, but then dropped the plan. Knowing him, he will probably ask me to pack my bags and get on the private plane ASAP. And that's the last thing I want. I can't thrive in that environment. Besides, I think I have it under control. From all the traces this guy has left, I know that there is just one person. Whoever sent this guy my way, gravely underestimated me. Or it could be that they don't wanna take an action, and just observe. It couldn't be one of dad's henchmen, cause I legit signed a contract where I specifically asked him to not send henchmen or bodyguards my way, unless deemed necessary by me, only then I'll return home as soon as I get my degree. And my dad knows I will sue him and drag him to the court if he doesn't abide. I grew up knowing all the necessary close-combat stuff, handling my weapons, and ofcourse, negotiation and manipulation. If this stalker thinks he can have me that easily, he is in for a huge disappointment. Ignoring the lurking presence, I entered the lift. My room was on the 12th floor. A beautiful and spacious place indeed, with I dare say the best view of the skyline. This apartment was not cheap. I have to work 2 shifts to pay the rent. But I guess the luxury part of my world did not leave me. I twisted the key to open the door, and felt a chill brush past my face. A ghost? There's no way the creep made his way to my room. Frantically I turned on the lights. The apartment looked just like I left. "Maybe I'm just exhausted" I dropped my coat on the couch along with my bag, and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water, and maybe a bit of wine. That's when my eyes fell on something, making me freeze right there. "A black rose" I carefully scanned around the room, looking for any other signs of life. Any movement other than my own shadows. Everything was still. "Shit" I muttered under my breath. If this guy can enter into my apartment, then he clearly is above what I had anticipated him to be. "Looks like I underestimated you too" I twirled the flower before throwing it in the bin. Just then I got a ping. "Didn't like my gift?" a private number. He was watching me. He was inside the house. Crap. "If you have balls show up in the front rather than hiding behind your screen like a coward" "If you say so" Just as I got the text, the light in my apartment went off. "What the fu-" This guy had it all planned! Even though it was dark, I could see the shadows shifting places. I was not alone. Without making any noise, I tried to get to the third drawer; where the gun was, along with the silencer and 3 bullets. I opened the drawer and found it empty. My blood froze. "Looking for this?" A deep raspy voice brushed past my ears as A cold barrel made contact with the back of my head. I could feel the warmth of his presence right behind me. Stupid me, I should've anticipated this. If he got inside my apartment, he'd surely come across my gun. I raised my hand up to my head. In a gesture of surrender. The guy let out a deep powerful chuckle. "What happened? Are you scared now that I'm actually here?" "I wouldn't be so cocky if I were you" I smirked as I twisted the gun from his hand elbowing him in the gut and turning around to point the gun in his direction. Holy shit. The man wore a hoodie and a mask, covering most of his face, except for the eyes. Carnal eyes. This guy was huge! And he definitely radiated power. There was no mistake he was more than just a henchman. He had authority in his eyes. If the circumstances were different, I'd even have considered him to be sexy. But that wouldn't stop me from pushing a bullet through his brain. "Remove the mask, let me see your face" The guy smirked. "Feisty. As expected from the eldest daughter of the Vassezac family" "Remove the mask, I won't ask you again"
With one swift movement he snatched the gun and held me against his chest, in a way that my back faced him. Shit. This guy was more powerful than I had thought. The air instantly turned heavier as my heart raced beneath its cage. The guy towered behind me, and took a wiff off my hair, sending chills down my spine. "I intend to show you more than just my face, love. But I'm afraid you'll have to wait." "Who sent you here?" The guy chuckled again. "Do you know what does the black rose mean?" he whispered in my ears. God damn is he here to kill me or seduce me? "It's a symbol of forbidden desire" he said as he bit my earlobe. "You have no idea how long I watched you from the shadows. How long I waited to be near you. To hold you. To devour you" he began kissing my neck, making my knees weak. Heat reached my cheeks and travelled down my body. What the hell Y/n? You're seriously getting turned on right now? "Who the f@ck are you?" I spat at him, trying to not to give out his impact on me.
