Jim - apologies as I totally missed this comment. My initial thought is that those links will not work unless the pages are created from the calendar or from the command palette create periodic note. I recognize this is so long ago you likely gave up on me but happy to help troubleshoot if you're still interested. And again, many apologies!

How does ? My Obsidian sees it as a text
Had the same issue and experimented a bit with it. It seems once the file is created from the template, Obsidian understands the templater's purpose
