    Did our Airstream make it to Costa Rica? Find out in today's video, plus how much it all cost to ship our tiny home on wheels.

    I'm stressed watching and it's not my Airstream! Lol. And that was already knowing it made it back. Oh wow the price really went up though. Definitely worth it to have a home right away instead of renting while waiting for your house to be built. Very good point. So exciting overall though. Very excited to see what the future brings. Positive vibes your way!

      Thanks so much! It's getting more exciting...but also the waiting around for all the building stuff can be annoying.

    Glad Luna made it mostly in one piece!! Those belly pan sections should be fairly easy to fix and dents pull out :) That's so cool you're neighbors with Louis and Raya!! wonderful humans ❤️ alegria looks like a fantastic development. Can't wait to see the process of you building your life there.

    PHEW! The damage _looks_ bad but it seems to be mostly cosmetic, which is great news. Welcome to Costa Rica, Luna!

    Glad it made it there! Did you have insurance on it to cover those dents? I'm guessing there's a good reason why you couldn't drive it down from up north. So happy for you guys!

    • @hopscotchtheglobe

      Us too! Yes we do but theres a deductible and I don't think the cost of the damage will be that great. I think it will be an easy fix...thankfully. SO glad we didn't drive it down. It would have been mayhem.

      @@hopscotchtheglobe Is this due to the condition of the roads or just the length and logistics of such a long drive (and several border crossings, etc)?

    Just curious, why didn’t you guys drive it there and done some sightseeing on the way? Was this the most eco friendly way to get her to Costa Rica?

    • @hopscotchtheglobe
      @hopscotchtheglobe  2 года назад +1

      For a few reasons we decided not to do that. An Airstream is much lower to the ground than other RVs, vans, buses, cars and trucks...so it would have been a lot of stressful situations with that alone. The main road would be fine...but finding places off the main road to park and sleep and just some of the roads we'd need to take in general would have been really bad for the Airstream. The Airstream and truck are pretty flashy so that concerned me. We sold our truck so we wouldn't of had anything to tow the Airstream with. Plus our friends drove their bus and had a bad experience...traumatizing really.

    I have owned 6 Airstreams and if I still lived in America I would probably still have another one or two. I can't believe the prices for shipping now, I just hope between now and the time I have my stuff sent from the U.S. to me in Thailand that the cost goes down a bit. Luckily I can wait as long as I want.

      Yeah the prices sky rocketing in the last 6 months. We needed to ship it over so had no choice at the time.

    Hey Both, I'm just going through the closing process on my lot in Alegria! I'm super excited and grateful for your videos, which helped me know this is the right community for me. Thank you so much!
    I have a very small tiny home shell that I want to bring to Costa Rica to live in as I build, but I've always heard its really expensive to import vehicles there. Not sure how that applies to RVs/THOW's. Did they know the Airstream is staying? Did they questions you about that? Can you share any resources for determining costs, logistics, duties/taxes? I wouldn't be sending with anything inside except the kitchen cabinets, bathroom shower/toilet and plumbing. Would it be easier to do it via land border? I am thinking to drive down in my camper van and can tow it (It's only 5000 pounds and 8x16"). Thank you so much my soon to be neighbours!

    • @hopscotchtheglobe
      @hopscotchtheglobe  2 года назад

      Hey Cori! Congrats on your lot closing :) Exciting!
      Since the airstream doesn't have an engine it's not technically a vehicle and the taxes were much less. We had very good customs agents and importers/shippers that helped us with everything. If you're in the group chats send me a DM. We were too concerned to do overland but you can go that route.
