      @L2-SPIRIT you definitely don’t look at the Batman news. In test screenings people have claimed the joker makes a cameo in the post credits. Rumored to be played by Barry Kheogan who played Druig in the eternals. When asked about the rumors Barry Khegoan claimed he wasn’t allowed to talk about it. And by accident his brother tweeted how he has proud that he got the role as the joker and then delete it.

    I think each independent Batman franchise picked the perfect villain for their first movie.
    The Joker was perfect for Burton’s unique blend of the zany and the macabre, and Nicholson’s portrayal was flawless for the established tone.
    Scarecrow was the perfect first villain for Nolan’s Batman to face, because of Begins’ focus on the Batman as a symbol of fear; when Bruce first faced Crane in the movie, he had till that point only taken on petty criminals and mob-bosses, a “cowardly and superstitious lot”, and he had mastered the use of psychological warfare, but had never met one who was as adept as himself at using terror to his advantage, and thus was caught completely off guard and had to adapt to fighting opponents who knew his game.
    And in The Batman, we appear to be getting a much greater focus on the detective in “world’s greatest detective” than ever before as well as a psychological deep dive, and who better to give Bruce his first real challenge in a game of wits and force him to confront his demons than Edward Nashton?

    • @GHanBax
      @GHanBax 2 года назад +23

      Between Bale, Affleck, and Pattinson, I think they nail a particular aspect of Batman in their own ways.
      Bale's movies got the philosophical aspect (Fear, Identity, Code/Chance/Chaos, etc).
      Affleck however had the perfect look and better action scenes, hitting the physical aspect.
      Pattinson's looks very promising and would indeed dive into Batman's mental detective work and emotional layers, which seems to hit the psychological aspect.

    • @tfly999
      @tfly999 2 года назад +19

      I suppose that means that the worst tragedy of the Snyder and Affleck take on Batman is he never got the perfect villain even when he was right in front of them all along. A Batfleck movie facing down Joe Manganiello's take on Deathstroke would have been a perfect spectacle of the very best fighters/strategists in the DCU. Such a shame.

      I do hope he gets the green tux look tho. Fashion is a big part of Batman’s villains, and the Riddler in the trailers is too subtle in my opinion. Not that the Schumacher version did him any justice

    • @gnarrcan108
      @gnarrcan108 2 года назад +14

      It’s not really a reinvention people have made riddler more dark in a couple storylines. I like the zodiac killer take bc it’s literally what I would’ve done I just hope they don’t try to Jokerize him and have him killing people in the most gruesome fashion ever w a weak ass clue. The riddler isn’t the joker he isn’t killing people for the fun of it, killing is the boring part like a shot to the head the fun part is the puzzle and proving his genius. I also don’t wanna hear a bunch of “we live in a society bs” Chris Nolan did a great job with adding a little bit of reason to the joker but I’m sick of him being used as a mouthpiece for edgy outcast crybabies. Actually that kind of mentality works for the riddler bc he’s a loser with a massive ego who thinks he’s so much more different than everyone else. It’d be a great take if they poke a bunch of holes in that idiotic mentality when Batman outsmarts him it’s just been done and people completely missed the point. I heard for years about how ledgers Joker was so deep and society this society that when even in the movie Joker basically says it’s not really society I just like killing people and fucking shit up duh that’s why I lie my ass off whenever I give my gaslighting tragic origin story.

    • @eliben4066
      @eliben4066 2 года назад +5

      @@gnarrcan108 Yeah, I’m kinda worried about the villains being turned into political messages too. As much as I liked Nolan’s films, I did miss the bigger than life personalities that made the villains so iconic, and I think trying to copy those films would be a bad idea. The trailers of The Batman is getting me hyped, and I can’t wait to see the Riddler, but I kinda did get the impression that the Riddler was also going to be someone who cares more about getting a message across than himself, much like Ledger’s Joker, which goes against his prideful nature. I kinda hope we get to see more personality than in the trailers, because the edgy villain with a message for a personality was fun for two movies, but not more

    I’ve always been a massive riddler fan and I feel the reason he hasn’t been super prominent bc he’s actually really hard to write like creating puzzles and riddles that are actually clever and make you believe Batman is the worlds greatest detective without doing corny 1966 riddles (which I love by the way Frank Gorshin was the best part of that show). The zodiac killer approach was always the way I figured someone would do it for a film but I’m still skeptical that the riddlers clues will be the driving force of the film rather than him just being a gruesome serial killer. Like if the riddlers code actually has a plausible answer and the focus is on that. The whole point of the character isn’t that he’s captain edgelord like the joker the murders he’s committing don’t need to be ridiculously macabre just cold and calculating the killing is the boring part for him the fun part is fulfilling his obsessive compulsive desire to be smarter than everyone.

    • @quietdemon8138

      I think Matt will combine both elements, he’ll kill high society Gotham figures but use riddles to both confuse and taunt the police but at the same time taunt Batman and lead him on a cat and mouse chase with Wayne being the cat and Edward being the mouse, IF that is what they are going for then it’s gonna be freaking perfect imo

    • @zonastarwars4397
      @zonastarwars4397 2 года назад +4

      Honestly his "obsessive compulsive desire to be smarter than everyone" is exactly what i don't like about the character. Riddler trying to prove that he is smarter than Bats is always annoying. Like, there's nothing interesting about that because Batman literally doesn't give a shit and he always ends up winning anyway.
      Also, if Riddler was smarter than batman then he shouldn't feel the need to prove it.
      In this movie Riddler seems to be trying to reveal a big conspiracy because he's the only one smart enough to notice it, which in my opinion is a much more interesting role.

    Paul Dano's scariness can be seen perfectly in Prisoners. Combined with his brutality seen in 12 Years a slave and his weirdness in many other movies like The girl next door, it almost seems like he was born for the role. I honestly believe his performance will be praised like Heath Ledger's Joker, it all comes down to the script.

    The zodiac killer dressed for utility and to confuse and disguise. For example the baggy or larger clothing makes it harder to identify the person and their build. I love this reimagining of The Riddler, The Riddler is always portrayed as kinda goofy and comedic and the fact that he's a super genius is never really highlighted to the degree of my liking, like if he's a super genius I'm sure he would have a serious demeanor and wouldn't care for comedic antics, and so easily be beaten by Batman, people also have to understand this is the beginning of The Riddlers criminal career, I'm sure over time he'll decide to wear the suit when he's more established as a crime boss

I didn’t know that inspiration was based on Heath Ledger’s Joker although the interrogation scene on the trailer remind me of The Dark Knight but way different. I am digging in with this Riddler that is gritty and a Zodiac killer. My dad isn’t a huge fan of this Riddler when I’ve told him about it because he is more of a 60’s Riddler person, meaning that he is more of a fan of the 60’s Riddler because I remembered him watching the TV series and myself watching Batman Forever. I'm really looking forward to this.
    The Riddler has undergone some changes in the last years from what was seen with the Animated Series or Batman: Forever.
    Thanks to the Arkham Game Series & the Gotham Show, people began to actually see him as a substantial character, which i'm very glad about, since he's always kinda been my fav Batman Villain.
    I hope this movie will do him justice.
    I'm optimistic tho.

    No matter how you see it, for better or for worse (for better in my opinion) Paul Dano has been typecast as how you have described someone being creepy, suspicious, and innocent. Looking back at his performances it seems that the Riddler role seems to take advantage of Dano's vindictive and almost zealous character experience as The Pastor in There Will Be Blood with the eerie, slow-burn mystery that you can find in his character in Prisoners. He has been touted as Hollywood's Most Punchable Face and for good reason, he is damn good in his acting.

    I've always liked the idea of The Riddler as a villain but I've never liked its image portrayal as in the campy Batman, Jim Carrey's, or any portrayals in green suits, bowl hats, and question marks dotted across clothing. I've always thought of The Riddler as dark, an enigma, inscrutable, and this new image portrayal is a great interpretation. The other portrayals are cartoony and costumey. But I do love this new version: sinister-looking with this type of mask and garb. This type of mask and garb is what the character needed; the mask is gold.

    I've never really cared for Riddler as a Bat-villain; always found him visually bland and kind of lame/predictable. So I'm pretty excited for this new interpretation of the character!

    Paul Dano could be a great bit casting for a character that had been pretty much over looked. Like Newmar with catwoman Frank Gorshin made Riddler with his own energy and that laugh was something else

    I big hope I have is that Riddler has a great backstory that explains his actions. I do not want him to be a misterious force of chaos like the Joker, I want him to be a smart villain with an understable backstory that challenges Batman's intellect and detective skills.

    If anyone is looking to read a dark Riddler story in advance of this film, I cannot recommend Dark Knight Dark City highly enough. It’s this iteration of the character that made him one of my favorites. Kinda like Seven meets Die Hard with a Vengeance.

    I think they’re going for a more “Hush” type look. Kind of a funny little nod to “reviving” a character. Not that I think this is Hush Riddler, just a small joke reference. But I like the glasses outside the mask. As someone who struggled as a kid to wear glasses with Halloween costumes, it’s very relatable to see someone slapping them on top of the mask 😂 Makes the Riddler feel even more human to me. An awkward intellectual playing dress up for the part, but who still wants to sell the character they’ve created. A great foil to Bruce’s own costume.

    I remember being skeptical when The Riddler was confirmed as the villain but after they announced both Paul as the character and the design was revealed I was fully on board, as much as I love Frank and Jim I honestly think Paul will become THE definitive portrayal of the character, the fact that they’ve gone for the visual direction of the Zodiac Killer is freaking perfect because it COULD actually happen and that’s what makes this version so much more unnerving and unsettling which organically enhances both Paul’s performance and how people will watch him
