    Sorry, but the ambient temperature on the MEATER is simply not accurate - at all. Mine is 100 degrees F low. That’s just not something you can explain away with “microclimates”. This drastically impacts cook time estimation effectiveness among other things. This is something MEATER engineers need to seriously look at in future offerings.

    Haven’t been able to get my charcoal smoker to work with this device, after buying it specifically for that purpose. It reads 140-160, when other thermometers read over 200 ambient. They say it’s a more accurate measurement, but if I can’t follow a recipe that calls for 215 degrees in my smoker without scorching my meat before reaching 215 in the MEATER app, it’s not accurate. If everyone uses regular thermometers to write recipes and talk about food, then the MEATER thermometer is the one that’s inaccurate. Even if it scientifically measures the microclimate next to the meat, that’s not a useful measurement to have for a home cook. I’d just like the ambient temperature measurement everyone else has.

    I have a possible theory, might just be a hair brain idea too.
    Moisture leaving the meat through the cooking process and turning to vapour takes energy to do so called ‘the exchange of latent energy’ the energy in this case is heat. Could the ambient probe be sitting in the a zone around the meat where all the heat exchange is happening and giving varied information.

  • @pauldorasil5114

    This is great. But the meater will give a warnings if you put it in an oven by itself. So, we need a Bluetooth product that can measure the overall oven/smoker/ grill temperature, not the ambient temperature. The ambient temperature grows throughout the cook. We need to measure the stable atmospheric temperature inside the cooking vessel.
    I want to make sure my smoker stays at 225. The ambient temperature doesn't tell me that. I have no benchmark for evaluating the ambient temperature.
    In short, we need a hanging oven thermometer with Bluetooth that connects to the Meater app.

    I've been trying to figure out the vast variance between my oven temp and ambient temp. My oven is currently set to 350 degrees, the separate grill thermometer I own that I put inside the oven on the same rack as my meat has it at about 340, but the ambient reading from the Meater probe has me at 220. I feel like a 120 degree difference is a bit much to blame on "microclimates" and that's something Meater made up to explain the inaccuracy (seriously, I can't find mention of "microclimates" when it comes to cooking anywhere other than this video.)

    • @zzsimoniuszz
      @zzsimoniuszz Год назад

      This is right and a problem. The MEATER ambient reading is about 100° less than the oven or smoker temperature. This renders the ambient reading almost useless. If I was to adjust my smoker so that the MEATER ambient temp is the recommended cook temp, then first I would get zero smoke (pellet grill), and second, everything would cook at too high a temp and ruin it. All recipes have that discrepancy built in. The MEATER probe would have to be about 12 inches long so that the ceramic part is not influenced by being too near the meat.

    • @zzsimoniuszz
      @zzsimoniuszz Год назад

      I also wonder if the fact that the ambient sensor is attached to the probe, then perhaps the conductive nature of the probe material means that the cooler meat temp inside reaches the ambient sensor.

    This is all well and good except when you place other devices in the stove to measure the temperature and the meater probe is still way off. I just had a cook where the time kept increasing even though temp was going up inside and outside the meat. I think I have a defective probe and I’ve reached out to support and to have it replaced. Hopefully they do the right thing or I will not be recommending this product for anyone as a holiday gift

    • @MEATER
      @MEATER  2 года назад

      Hello Rick! If you're referring to the ambient sensor being closer to the meat than compared to if it was a little further, then it should be because the meat will likely be cooler than the environment it's in.

    This is simply silly. No way there is a 100 degrees of difference between this and my thermoworks smoke ambient sensor placed 1 inch apart for it to be blamed on "microclimate". It is simply put, wrong and should be removed from advertising as an ambient sensor

      Hey Trevor! Our ambient sensor is designed to be extremely sensitive to microclimates within the appliance. Since most cooking appliances tend to have hot and cold spots, the reading can vary greatly depending on the location of the probe.
