I've heard from other (in their own right already accomplished) OpenAI employees of how caught off guard they were when they joined the company at how highly intelligent their colleagues were. So competence and intelligence are given when you talking about an OpenAI employee. What was said was that her skin colour and cultural background were a huge bonus at leadership position for a company that's 90% fair skinned. So if the choice is to hire between two people of equal competency of different racial characteristics, it's smarter to hire the Black person. Did you see the "we are so back" group staff photo when Altman and Greg were reinstated? Finding a person of colour in that photo was like finding Waldo. And the issue is not even with HR, its known that there is a shortage of Black AI researchers in the U.S. because Black people aren't pursuing the field. Lots of organisations are trying to change that, who are trying to encourage participation and inclusion from different races and ethnicity.

Wonderful. Especially after 30 min about the process of human evolution into the future. Carl Jung said, "Thinking is difficult, that's why most people judge." Also, Osono, a Myokonin at Shin Buddhism said in effect, "What a waste (to live life)," pointing the wastefulness of how we use our brain. Why? Our brain (mind) typically works pretty much in a linear logic like fashion which makes us not to get the big picture to make good judgments. I also see the "continuous process" as Altman said toward the end with AGI (as co-pilot) is the way for us to go forward - along with hopefully manageable size of mistakes along the way - a typical process for any human may grow. My best wishes - especially to integrate various pieces to fit together n a timely manner with 'human ingenuity.' May all beings be happy.
Hey we are on track for your the electricity needs. There were a few breakthroughs in the last week that allow us to lower reactor costs along with turbines for extraction of orderly movement of electrons from heat energy.
I think the new guidelines are largely pointless, and will only hurt ChatGPT in the long run. People don't want watered down AI that has been indoctrinated with a certain ideology, or forces the user into a certain box. For instance, if I am writing a book, I don't want ChatGPT telling me I'm a bad person because I'm writing a scene about my villain doing something villainous, or even running into the situation where the AI refuses to comply because it violates their sensibilities. It just makes ChatGPT useless, and I'd use a different LLM that isn't so indoctrinated.

14:17 Altmans argumand is realy bad. He sais NY Times must tell them what they dont want in the model. No, thats not how it works. OpenAI must create a database with copyright protected content and then compare their training data to it so no copyright content is included. The other way around is of course better for OpenAI but if I wear a judge I would not accept this argument.
A lot of important content in this conversation and spot on with the global implications of AI although it's tough to say how things with AI will play out in the next decade, quarter century, century, etc.
Sam is back and doing his thing. Love that he his speaking up again and a bit of drama resolve is to be expected. Apart from that I am so glad to see him out in public again spreading the amazement and love for humanity.
Yes, I’m really hoping to see Sam Altman more in public forums. His presence, as highlighted by the world tour, is essential, particularly as AI technology evolves. As CEO, he isn’t just a relatable figure; he directly embodies the traits we trust and alleviates our concerns with his cautious and insightful leadership. I especially admire how he brings his team to the forefront, allowing them to express their perspectives (also on the world tour with people from or with ties to the respective countries).
7:04 "...It's not yet replacing jobs to the degree people thought it would..." IMO, given how capable GPT 4 (even 3.5) was, had hallucinations been resolved *before* the launch of ChatGPT most people would be actively and constantly using it (not just being familiar with and occasionally using it). Absent the hallucination problem, many jobs may have been replaced.
The hallucination problem is honestly barely even a problem with GPT-4. It happens so rarely that you really have to go out of your way to get it to hallucinate.
“AGI will get developed in the reasonably close-ish future and it’ll change the world much less than we all think it will change it. It will change jobs much less than we all think.” - Sam Altman…. Sam Altman’s perspective leans towards a less transformative impact, but the dynamic nature of technology makes it challenging to accurately predict the extent of AGI’s influence on jobs and the world. The potential for job displacement and societal shifts is a viewpoint that prompts a closer examination of the potential implications.
He's quite obviously disingenuous now that the company has restructured. He's not speaking to inform the general public anymore, he's literally speaking on behalf of Carrer Politicans, Government Interests and Globalist Organizations. This change was increasingly predictable as Microsoft's influence on Open ai grew, could argue it became inevitable once the board was replaced
@@Jake_Hamlin Great point. His statement, ‘Progress here is not the near,’ draws attention to the current trend of automation impacting jobs, such as the increasing use of robots at Amazon presently. While I aim to avoid the Luddite fallacy, it’s hard to overlook that this particular invention stands out as one of the most probable disruptors of employment, if not the primary catalyst for significant job transformations. I think most people especially corporations are apolitical, but want some type of democracy (not necessarily centralized) to foster cohesion. Centralized government needs to avoid making broad assumptions, rather it should allow for decentralized representation.
I think he was pretty neutral about Trump. You're being a little too sensitive. Maybe he likes neither Biden or Trump. I've never heard him say anything about Biden. But I am curious, why are people required to lack an opinion about someone because they're running for office? If I ran nude through Times Square then ran for mayor, it would be inappropriate for company leaders to even imply they're not a fan of me?
Trump Is not a good human being though. He's truly a bad guy, regardless of his politics. Plenty of apolitical people, independents, and Republicans dislike Trump because he's a liar and a narcissistic sociopath who led an insurrection against our country. I would not want the man at the head of world-changing technology to be pro-Trump. Anyone with basic common sense who takes a look at Trump knows he's not a good man.

Of course this was a great conversation, but this interviewer is repeatedly trying to get something sensational out of sam, and that just limits the true potential of these interviews
In the labyrinth of contemporary human governance, the decline is not just theoretical but starkly observable, exacerbated by the specific actions and policies of contemporary leaders and the myriad of monumental obstacles we face as a human species. For instance, Joe Biden's presidency, despite its promises of unity and progress, faces criticism for its handling of immigration policies, its role in Israel’s continued slaughter of civilians in Palestine, or its failure to meaningfully impact the lives of American citizens. The administration's approach, often perceived as a balancing act between progressive aspirations and centrist pragmatism, highlights the inherent contradictions and failures within democratic systems. Same same but different, Donald Trump's presidency exemplified a different set of flaws in governance. His tenure was marked by controversies like the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021, reflecting a governance style rooted in divisive rhetoric and often criticized as undermining democratic institutions and norms. Globally, the state of democracy is in a precarious balance, as seen in the authoritarian turn in countries like Hungary and Poland, where democratic backsliding is a serious concern. The gradual erosion of democratic principles in these countries illustrates the fragility of democratic systems and the ease with which they can be compromised. Current conflicts, such as the Israel-Palestine situation or the Russia/Ukraine proxy war, remain unresolved and volatile, reflecting the limitations of international diplomacy and governance. The repeated cycles of violence and failed peace initiatives underscore the challenges in addressing deep-rooted historical and territorial disputes. They represent a stark failure in international governance and diplomacy, leading to widespread humanitarian crises and geopolitical tensions. In this era of profound change, the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) introduces yet another layer of complexity. The potential societal impacts of AI are far-reaching and dual-faceted. On the one hand, AI promises unprecedented advancements in efficiency, problem-solving, and innovation across various sectors. On the other, it poses significant risks, including ethical quandaries, privacy concerns, job displacement, and the amplification of social inequalities. These challenges are compounded by AI's rapid development and integration into the fabric of daily life, making it a transformational force in the modern world. The emergence of AI as a dominant force in society underscores the monumental importance of competent and forward-thinking governance. In an era marked by the decline of democratic principles and the rise of authoritarian tendencies, as evidenced by the situations in Hungary, Poland, and beyond, the role of governments in navigating the AI revolution becomes critically paramount. Effective governance in the age of AI requires not only a deep understanding of the technology itself but also a robust ethical framework and a commitment to the public good. The potential for AI to exacerbate existing societal issues, or to create new ones, demands a proactive and informed response from leaders. The contrast between the current state of global governance and the ideal required to manage the increasing involvement of A.I. in everyday life is stark. The complexity of AI, coupled with the inherent challenges of human governance, and the threat of growing global conflict begs the question. Do we trust that those currently in power are up to the task at hand? This transitional period in human society, dominated by the rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence, represents a critical juncture. AI holds the potential to significantly reshape our future, offering both a promise of progress and the risk of amplifying our greatest challenges. Yet, the pursuit of effective governance means we may as well be grasping a fistful of sand, which slips away no matter how tightly one grips. The ideal of a governance system transcending self-interest and power struggles seems not just unattainable but naively overlooks the grim realities of our geopolitical landscape. At this pivotal juncture, the promise of AI means nothing if we cannot ascertain that it will be used for the good of all people. Yet our institutions and those in power are wholly inept to handle this responsibility. Where do we go from here?

He's downplaying it so the strict regulations wouldn't eat into his profits.
"No time at all and infinite" is Sam Altman saying it has already begun, prepare for a crazy ride!
he genuinely wants to advance humanity which is amazing. need more people like that. he may or may not like power (I think he does, as most would), but this is a byproduct of great work and what very likly seems to be a genuine interest to advance us all!

He's not perfect, but then no one is.
This AI stuff is coming whether he's at the helm or not, and I'm not aware of anyone who I'd be happy with replacing him.
Of all the people who could be in the position, he's one of the best for it.
he is a frontman with a human face, for a bunch of psychopaths. Psychopaths are fearless, heartless, and think bad things happen only to other people.
Fantastic interview! 🎉❤
Thank you for all the thoughtful questions to Sam
I love all the shade he’s throwing at the New York Times 😂
Sam is SO right that there is a reason behind the frustration in society. It's not about hate. It's frustration about selfish politicians.
lol
Selfish elites in general, and he should recognize that and make openai open.
No, there’s a lot of hate.
It's extreme wealth inequality. Politicians only do what their wealthy donors tell them to do.

This is a good OpenIA interview with Atlman.
Hey we are on track for your the electricity needs. There were a few breakthroughs in the last week that allow us to lower reactor costs along with turbines for extraction of orderly movement of electrons from heat energy.
"we actually STILL prohibit, the development of weapons...". A Freudian slip if there ever was one. We should all be worried about this.
Very informative interview ❤
Appreciate Sam’s candor in calling out the BS of the person asking questions!
AI is going to have its filthy fingers in EVERYTHING.
This all great but we need regulations on how tech companies are mining their raw materials products here in Africa. As an african we really loosing lives in illegal mining sites. For the sake of humanity, lets invest in saftey measure on how these raw materials are mined. Its not always about money and influence lets be human. Our lives also matter
As long as Sam Altman and his family are ok and can continue making billions, that's what really matters. God forbid anything disrupt his stockpiling of gold and guns on a mountain top. That would be a true tragedy. Of course other humans trying to continue to earn a living and have some edge from their skills, talents, education and creativity is preposterous and should just be run through with technology, BUT, as long as Sam Altman is OK, that is what counts!
Good ol' Sam Atlman.
Big Sammy Alts
A lot of important content in this conversation and spot on with the global implications of AI although it's tough to say how things with AI will play out in the next decade, quarter century, century, etc.
im excited for about the next couple decades on many disease cures, ease of abundance (hopefully). but a 100 years? terrifying the possibilities
So we're just going to never know what happened at OpenAI?
Sam is back and doing his thing. Love that he his speaking up again and a bit of drama resolve is to be expected. Apart from that I am so glad to see him out in public again spreading the amazement and love for humanity.
I agree. I am encouraged by his incredible ability to keep turning the conversation towards positivity.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, Sam Altman, we love you man, you're making the world a better place. Awesome video!
Why did he build an underground survival bunker? That decision on his part, doesn't fill me with confidence.

OpenAI has agi, the public is just chillin in the kiddie pool for now
“It’s always a mistake to try and fight the last war” -Sam
7:04 "...It's not yet replacing jobs to the degree people thought it would..."
IMO, given how capable GPT 4 (even 3.5) was, had hallucinations been resolved *before* the launch of ChatGPT most people would be actively and constantly using it (not just being familiar with and occasionally using it).
Pondering the progress made, it’s intriguing to imagine what GPT-9 (or any succeeding version) might look like and the extent of its capabilities.
Indoctrination and brainwashing has already begun. It will be the easiest thing. We cant stop it, so we must make humans love it. We will end up loving our prison, the complete blandification of all creativity. His remark about artists shows he has not got a bleeping clue.

Lol, as if OpenAi is the only game in town. There are many other models that have no morals that will be used for political purposes. Who cares what OpenAi does about that? It's entirely overlooking the actual problem.

But then he probably thinks the spotify top ten is art. We are going to see the blandification of EVERYTHING, and we are going to be told it is GREAT !! and 99% of humanity will fall for it, (because brainwashing will be the easiest thing ever...) and, more importantly, PAY for it.

Sam made very clear he’s not a fan of Trump. Hopefully his leadership at OpenAI is independent of his politics and personal views
Well Trump is a criminal.
Who can advise Trump on Ai ? Jared? Eric?
What is likely is that he will be as ill-advised as he was on Covid.
I don't trust Altman, he's no altruist.
Bloomberg, if you're reading this, your questions are fair but just like many of you journalists and stuff, you have this bias for sensationalist headlines. If you let that go, you'd make your guests far more comfortable, happy, and allow for a more creative, open-minded discussion which is far better for the world. Of course this was a great conversation, but this interviewer is repeatedly trying to get something sensational out of sam, and that just limits the true potential of these interviews
I love how Sam shits on him
where is emily chang?😓
Best comment. Needs to be pinned.
