Speaking of the power fluctuations, I just read an article on using renewable energy like solar for desalinization of water for drinking. The process would automatically increase and decrease the process based on availability of energy. You could tie these things together so that as more energy is required for a specific process, it takes away from the 24/7 process of desalination or give it back so that energy plants cash run at full speed, or whatever is the most efficient. Water can be stored, so it can always be made ahead to keep up with needs, and power can shift back and forth where needed. That's just one example, but we can find more I'm sure that would help offset the costs and demands of creating drinking water where needed.

Can you give specifics? Computerization and mechanization have whittled my dad's stone industry from ~350 workers to 30. Fair enough, the machines are more productive. AI can do entry-level busy work for lawyers, doctors, and engineers. Why hire and spend time training new grads? Truck drivers, farmers? Nah, trucks and tractors can use autopilot. Brick and mortar retail? Please, Amazon's way ahead. The bulk of NV's recent growth has come from building AI data centers for Google, Tesla, Microsoft, and other big companies. They're using it to monitor your web activity, device location, and eavesdrop on your conversations to target ads from their big corporate partners. NV isn't an AI company, it's a graphics acceleration company. Turns out graphics architecture's great at matrix arithmetic (but that sounds lame, AI is better for marketing). In recent weeks, lnvestors have become concerned that Nvidia has simply come too far, too fast, and they are wondering whether the hectic pace of AI adoption could continue. If what Jensen is claiming turns out to be reality, one of the likely outcomes of this will be a meaning crisis for the vast numbers of people who's 'reason to be' is work. Because no matter how you dress it up in the short to mid term, the long term implication of maximal optimisation (achieved through automated intelligence combined with automated mechanisation) is human workers wont be needed on mass. Then what? Of course time scales for this outcome could be significant especially if seen through the lens of 'average lifetime', but time scales could also be compressing sharply as we watch. Energy usage will become one of the lesser problems and can be addressed with relatively simple management solutions, mass psychology transitions are another thing altogether.
Let me try to counter it. There are hard problems that are impossible to solve today, but AI will help to solve. That's where the new jobs will be created.
