- 7th International FRANZ LISZT Piano Competition Weimar-Bayreuth: Kho Woon Kim plays Franz Liszt's version of G. Rossini's "Wilhelm Tell" Ouverture during her performance for the 2nd round of the competition.
Recorded 2011/10/27 at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar.
People who never studied an instrument can't possibly appreciate how difficult this piece is. Great performance!
If there were ever a time to yell out "I got blisters on my fingers." This is it. Just incredible.
Wow, wow, wow. I have watched this at least 200 times. Probably more like 500 times. Let's just say too many times to count. I think you are amazing.
My first but definitely not my last.
Say, this is a pretty fanstastic performance of a very daunting piece. Technically impressive, but that is so often the case today that it's no longer remarkable. What is very remarkable indeed is the sensitive musicianship. Kho Woon Kim, keep up the great work! Here's hoping to hear more of you in the near future.
I'm utter enthused, the music is so popular, but also so very good and perfect played, great compliment !!
Articulate and brilliant . Never seen such a stupendous performance. Bravo
music.youtube.com/watch?v=5Sb3W0ZY I quite like this one it's not the whole piece.
Great performance!! I reading the score as she was playing and she omitted the 2-count rest at 2:07, otherwise very well done for a very difficult piece. ( Not as difficult as Liszt's transcription of Wagner's Overture to Tannhauser. Very few pianists can perform that piece without technical, or mechanical error.)
actually the most underrated piece of music ever composed,,, and thank you for recording and playing at the highest of artistic levels... simply bravo.... you are a true artist...
douglas mccann totally agreed
An excellent interpretation that brings out all the inner voices, many of which are key melody lines, without resorting to absolute pounding on the keys. Very well done! Bravo!
"Bravo" is for male, for a woman you need to say "brava".
@@totidan38 well yes that's correct, but its common to use ¡bravo! always if you are not italian, not saying it's right, though. In spanish, for instance, nobody says ¡brava!, because bravo/brava, is an intalian adjective, meaning good, hence why it is used as a compliment, but in spanish, bravo/brava is a completely different adjective, meaning brave, so when we borrow the expression from Italy, we use it as an interjection and not as an adjective, and thats we are used to use ¡bravo! in spanish regardless of the gender. And of course, you don't have gender distinction in english adjectives, so it is also understandable for an english speaker to don't say it right
@@gunthermathiasbausellapiz5211 Wow! I didn't know this. I'm italian and I thought "bravo" was only used in Italy. Thanks for your explanation.
Braaaaavooooo !!!!!!
@@gunthermathiasbausellapiz5211 Im late here, but bravo on that very intelligent burn.

Suphasit Patthanakuha thx god this comment exists
beautiful all the way brah… god bless her & everybody
virtuosité et émotion - quel talent - bravo Mrs Kho woon Kim- thank you very much for sharing
Excellent! Thank you very much for sharing.
Kho Woon Kim's sensitive tempi, phrasing, and articulation are all superb in her performance of this knuckle-buster. I'd be inclined to call it the best performance of Liszt's Rossini transcription that I've ever heard (and even overlook the klunky sounds at 11:30 and 11:43). But I cannot for the life of me understand why she omits one of the finale's most wonderful touches, namely the four-note phrase that leaps up an octave at 9:44, 9:47, 11:07, and 11:10. She just sits in the same octave...
Grandiosa interpretación!!!!
My pristine admiration for Kho Woon Kim knows no bounds. Besides G. Rossini', her Brahms, Beethoven, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov ... she plays them supremely well. She gives life to them bringing all emotion from their supreme perennial Art.at totum.
And indeed, her G. Rossini', is a special case, and particularly his overtures. I think her interpretation is reference, not only for her technical perfection.
As I feel to this composers, I have not heard anyone who approaches so much to his spirit as Kho Woon Kim.
I truly expect that she will discover my compositions,
my personal music, and then start to play, to perform me. >>> YAN AYRTON, Classical composer from XXI century.
Beautiful...
Holy shit. Bravo, bravo, a hundred times bravo.
What an impressive performance.
Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those who are wondering, the famous, energetic bit begins at 9:00
The begining remembers me " clockwork orange" with the bad boy go to prison, and when he see in the suite of Stanley Kubrick's movies his parents wich have hired his room !
Bravo! Encore! Amazing!

Wonderful performance without pounding. A feat in itself. Great clarity and vim and vigor. I wish I could play like she does.

Unglaublich, prima! Moeglichenfalls moechte ich auch in Japan dieses Spiel zuhoeren.
C'est superbe, quelle respiration de phrases
quoi tu ecrie un commentaire en francais, si toutes les autre discussent en anglais? :D
I can write in english, german, french and swedisch and I was not intended to make any discussion - I just expressed what I found most expressive in my daily language. The artistic performance touched me profoundly.
amazing :)
My hands still hurt from watching
Two simple words: Yaaaaaaassss Queeeeen!!! 👏🌈🌹❤️
What prize did she win?
And just imagine of Rossini had gotten serious about music.
turns out the ghost from the ring is shit hot at playing liszt
Next, she should tackle Cziffra's arrangement of this piece.
I didn’t know there was one!
Watch it at playback speed 1.5!!! Awesome!!! :)
Gegen das Spiel kann man nichts sagen, das ist hervorragend, aber bekommt man von so einer gebeugten Haltung nicht Rückenschmerzen?
Which part of "The Ring" is this? Don't remember Samara playing piano.
¿Es mi imaginación o he escuchado todas las notas?
No no es tu imaginación.. La verdad Lizst es una bestia
She won a beating from her father, he was so proud
wtf is wrong with you?
i mean theres no evidence she got beaten at all...
@@juliusbittner8096 it's an expression
No
AND THE WORST POSTURE AWARD, (THE BACKACHE) GOES TO ...........
"William Tell" OVERTURE
NOT
Wilhelm Tell Ouverture
"Guglielmo Tell" : Gioachino Rossini era Italiano!
Wilhelm !!! He was Swiss-German, after all... !!!
those green parts at the top and the bottom. My god the ugliness!
Unfortunately, I do not like how she performs this piece!
If you want to hear this done a little bit better than this young lady's version go to ruclips.net/video/3L3BViVKlYM/видео.html and start listening at around the 8:30 mark. This is the second time I had to put this comment in, these girls just don't have it down like the dude who does it.
Too much pedal. Quite a few mistakes as well. 7/10
Lacks energy and excitement. Falls flat. This piece requires a bravura technique and a very big sound. She is simply unable to produce that sound. Technically, she is good, but her sound, tone, touch simply lacks force and power. An average performance of this at best.
Bravo!!!
