The Nike Space Hippie features a recycled upper made of recycled plastic bottles, post-consumer t-shirts, and scraps from other shoes. The way Nike describes the Space Hippie is that the shoe is made of trash. The Nike Space Hippie 01 has US release date of July 3rd and a retail price of $130! I got a pair of these last week and they are very comfortable for just casual wear. Nike did another great job on these shoes.
if 50% of the shoe is made from recycled plastic bottles, they have to pay for that material. Plastic bottles are not found on the Nike factory floors.

Am I the only one pissed that Nike claims this shoe saves them money, yet they charge a premium? That's like a slap in the face to me. They're basically admitting that all their "earth saving technology" does is put more money in their pocket. Did they really engineer a way to help save the planet, or did they engineer a way to make more money off a single shoe? I think making more money is really where the emphasis was.
If they REALLY wanted to make a difference…quietly make all of your shoes like this.

I hate that they put that tape on the boxes! Thats why I have everything Nike shipped to either my front office or a FedEx store.
And that's why I'm afraid to order it
I've never understood why Nike needs to have their packages easily identified with that just do it packaging tape wrapped around the box. It just makes it a tastier target for thieves looking to steal packages, especially come the holidays. I know that you can have FedEx redirect your package for pickup at one of their hubs but I don't always have the time to go there and it can be a hassle. Some of their carriers just carelessly toss the box over the gate that opens the driveway where I live and not drop it off my front door.
At first, I feel like they were a bit too much for me, but the more I look at them, the more I love them.

for nike using a recycled parts straight from the trash, they still selling em pretty expensive.
I know this one brand that it recycles shoes and when you trashed to shoe that you can’t really wear it you can ship it to the company and they will give you a free shoe or a discount I forgot which one
I would gladly send in my beat pairs for a guaranteed spot on the next snkrs drop. They recycle and save money, we get to cop more heat at retail. A great why to solve the bot crisis too, if you really want that pair, better wear your kicks.

Many times recycled material actually cost more to manufacture and use. Often it’s cheaper to completely use say non recycled plastics over recycled.

@Calle Andreasson how could it be? All the materials are used/meant to be thrown away already. Also, it's almost the same process as any other shoes. I think nike gained more from this than the usual production of other shoes.

Bong Cabrido Yeah. Parley is all plastic bottles. These use half plastic bottles, t-shirts, and scrap pieces.
I think the fact that they aren't having to bring in new materials to make this shoe does make it more sustainable because you don't have the emissions from transporting the materials to Nike. This is a really cool shoe and I hope to see Nike innovative more. This shows they don't need to rely on dropping AJ1s in every possible combination of red and black.

So Nike is selling you their scraps, leftovers and trash in a shoe that's not as soft or as comfortable as their regular shoes for $130 bucks and up... Hell, they're not even spending money on a box. I feel like these should be like $50 bucks at the most.

It will only be a goldmine for Nike when they make loads and don’t limited them, try for all 4 on SNEAKRS in the U.K. and didn’t get one, well I did I got the 04 from sns after winning the raffle and didn’t know it was for the ladies in extended sizes but for me Nike need to make more, when they drop in the US there might be a lot of disappointment because of stock and Nike aren’t the best with restocks on SNEAKRS, I’m waiting for the 01 from stockx 🤦🏻♂️

Yeah they won’t be adding color to this line so much because of the sustainability factor, the only way I see them doing so would be to deliberately separate colors during the recycling process in order to generate a new end color for the materials used. Which is possible perhaps, but not as cost effective or green since the energy consumption would go up.
They did have two colorways on the 04, so new ones for this might come out later on

Circular economy should become the new normal. Companies should be responsible for the waste they produce. Instead of throwing sneakers away, allow us to send them back to Nike, so that they can upcycle them.

I honestly like the design behind the whole collection, but the one morality issue I think you missed is how much they are paying their workers who assemble the shoes considering that Nike is spending nothing on materials for this shoe.

Super comfy. Def for people with flat feet. I bought them a few days ago...only issue I see is after walking outside is there are now small pock mark holes in the soles. I see this as a casual show and def not for extreme activity even though I did some martial arts in them to test run and they are well balanced for that.
I really enjoyed how in depth you went in on this review and always a plus when an added perspective can be shared as well especially from those responsible for the release.

I had ordered the shoe right before I saw the list of videos pertaining to the shoe. I chose this video to watch because of the title. I was expecting to see a poor review of the shoe, because the title referred to it as trash. I almost cancelled the shoes, but decided to watch the video first, which was drawn out ridiculously. There's a difference between being cute and irresponsible. The title of this video is a very irresponsible one. It almost made me miss out on what he ultimately describes as a nice pair of shoes.
