- On a rain filled, foggy day in October 2012, we headed to Dollywood to catch EX-WP&Y #70 working in the rain. Whistle is a Hancock 3 chime Steptop (High Pressure) Copyright 2012 Jeff Hunsaker
I miss that on 70 I wish we could get it back or try it out on 192
Hi. Fantastic shots.
Great video! Great sounds! I have an audio recording of an identical whistle from Cass in W. Va. in 1982!
Great video as usual!!! 70 sure sounds good!!
I remember #70 wore an IC Steamboat whistle which is a long bell whistle. It sounds quite similar to the Hancock.
Thank you.
Nice video, nice whistle!
great video and whistle
I love trains, especially this one! Awesome video man! Love it!
i like the newer whistle the crosby 3 chime whistle
fantastic!
Dude, this video is like, fucking awesome!
That Hancock sounds awfully familiar...
How’d you get shots along the route? I know it was 4 Year’s ago but not that much could have changed
8:59 Shave and a haircut
9:03 Two bits!
Is it just me or does this sound a lot like 611
Same kind of whistle (Hancock 3 Chime) although different notes. This one sounds lower.
Midwestern Railfan ah, makes sense.
The Hancock 3 Chime is my favorite type of whistle. Especially the one used on SP&S 700 and Union Pacific 844. I also like the one on Union Pacific 4014. They just sound so heavenly.
That whistle really does sound familiar...couldn't be similar to the one on a certain, famous N&W J-Class 4-8-4 could it?
I think dollywood as got some explaining to do.
I just asked on the train's Facebook. It wasn't 611's, but one of the other Js.
Scratch that. It's 734's original Hancock. Western Maryland also used this style. It is the one that is now owned by Al Cunningham, Dollywood's senior engineer.
I know Al
Tri-Cities railfan, have you by chance been to chandler farms??????
it sounds like the 4014 big boy
Thaks, would have been alot better if there wasn't a tree right in the middle of that field.
They removed the tree
Sounds like 70 needed to have some cylinder packing replaced
9:26 that was me waving on the train (last car)
Cwilliam lol.
ALABAMA 2019 I care asshole
@@Athestar04 wow the most hardcore reply ever
@@Athestar04 So you’ve changed?
When 70 was running Where was 192 then
In the shed probably being cleaned and rebuilt like they normally do on rotation
How many steam locomotives does Dollywood have and run?
2
They have three, but they only run two of them. They have 70 and 192 operational, and 71 as a spare parts engine.
what whistle was that
That dont sound like a hancock.....sounds more like a steamboat whistle
Idk why but it looks like an ebt locomotive
Well it and the EBT mikados are the same type of locomotive. They are both Baldwin 12-28 1/4e class engines. The only differences are that the EBT engines have been modified to have Southern valve gear instead of the standard Walschaerts gear.
Awesome!
wow 999 views .... coolly random :)
I love that shot starting at about 7:30
Thank you.
just curious what whistle is that
