Experimental neuroscientist Patrick McNamara argues that the dream state, specifically REM sleep, is crucial to human creativity and cultural evolution. During REM sleep, the brain creates a highly cholinergic environment that promotes connections between disparate ideas, resulting in innovative and creative outcomes unique to the human species.
A landmark characteristic of REM sleep is a dissociative state where unrelated ideas combine to create innovative solutions to problems. McNamara suggests that while society today has somewhat lost its reverence for the power of dreaming, traditional cultures valued them highly for these properties. By harnessing the benefits of REM sleep, individuals may be able to unlock their creative potential and solve some of the most pressing issues facing humanity.
In a world where innovation is highly valued, McNamara's theory on the power of the dream state may revolutionize our approach to problem-solving. He asserts that in re-evaluating our relationship with the dream state, it has the potential unlock new solutions to the challenges facing our world - and in turn, to drive cultural evolution.

Some dreams that you have are remembered for a lifetime. Most are forgotten when you wake up. To keep a dream log is a step to lucid dreams. These could be a huge help in your life. Many of the so-called geniuses were given ideas through dreams. You can find this in history.

I understand that dreaming and sleep (neurobiology in general) are tremendously beneficial processes. My question, thus, is that should we continue exploring how it works and what it does or should we devise ways of implementing it to our advantage?

(The) Well, your content helps me sort through the vast material of the world. Like this: "I know that... I know that... I know that... Ah there's something I didn't know... I know that... I know that... Ohhh! that's interesting!... I know that... I know that... That? Yes, I _do_ remember that!... ". What I'm telling you is, if sorting out oneself is important for either the individual OR for the society in which one _lives_ , then your content is very valuable! To me, for sure it's valuable, and possibly for many others. Excellent work.

As sigmund freud stated: dreams are the kings road to the subconscious. He already connected the traditional mythic wisdom with a scientific approach of his time in his seminal book 'interpretation of dreams' still worth reading a hundred years on. It is a joy to see those ideas newly substantiated now by cutting edge science.

One of the greatest authors whoever lived , that being James Joyce bequeathed two master works of literature to the human race . The first - Ulysses- is about the daily routines and bodily functions including sex in the Jewish Mr. Blooms DAYTIME body and mind . For nighttime and REM sleep it took Joyce no less than eighteen years to write Finnegan’s Wake - the other half of Ulysses the sleeping half . It’s still quite shrouded in mystery I owe myself another read of this highly unusual treasure - he created the theoretical physics Standard Table module word for QUARK!!!!!! 🛌🛌🛌😱😱👑

Do we really get tired and go to sleep because of spending energy through the day, or the brain makes the sensation of "being tired" so it can focus all its energy to the brain to do REM?
If we really get tired for spending energy and then lacking it, where does the brain gains energy from?
And if the brain uses a lot of energy while sleeping, then why do we awake feeling with energy again, not sleepy and ready to do things in the day?

How come not many ppl dream about shapeshifting or teleporting or flying????
    I barely heard about it.
My dreams are filled with shapeshifting and abstract-ness.
I realize most others have very real-life based dreams. Crossing the street. Seeing people. Normal stuff.
In my dreams, you know its a dream. There is a cut-off in the world. It isnt seamless.
How come so few ppl dream like that? And how come there are no talks on this????
Dream meanings are based on simple dream concepts.
There arent translations for shapeshifting, teleporting etc

I wish I didn’t have to dream. I feel like my dreams interrupt my rest. I’m often exhausted when I wake up. I have nightmares often. These aren’t recurring nightmares, either. The topics and themes are always different .
My “normal” dreams are always so active and frenetic in nature that I just feel so tired when I wake up.
I’ve been like this my whole life. I would sleep walk as a small child and talked in my sleep as a teenager.
The decade I spent smoking weed was one of the most restful times in my life. Not very productive, mind you, but it was nice to finally have an extended period of good, restful sleep.

Recently, I’ve been more afraid of going to sleep because my dreams have been becoming increasingly strange. I think the familiarity of a lot of the rooms is what scares me the most. No, the idea of learning something new from one of these dreams is what scares me the most. That’s why I’m afraid to try dreaming techniques. I keep thinking I’m going to remember something from a dream that I don’t want to remember. Something that will haunt me.
