I love Preston Sturges and this movie. Sullivan’s Travels, The Lady Eve, The Miracle of Morgan Creek & Hail the Conquering Hero - just brilliant!

Oh, by the way Claudette Colbert was actually born in France hence the last name being a French last name

I've seen three Preston Sturges's movies till now (not this one), and two of them have this little "problem" (for me) of having at some point some slapstick sequence that I think don't fit well in the context of the rest of the movie. I don't think slapstick and screwball comedy go extremely well together in the same movie, at least this is my opinion. Among those I've seen is in "Unfaithfully Yours" I think that constitutes the major problem, cause in that film the slapstick sequence drags really for too long, I mean... for too long. and it's a shame because for the rest the film is really enjoyable! Still a good movie though. Also in "Sullivan's travels" there are a couple of scenes like that, but far less exhausting, and the film in general is a great one, very modern and meta, and with one of the most charming and unusual and moving scenes I've ever seen in a comedy of the golden age. Then, "Lady Eve" is the best of the three I've seen, and I don't remember any problem with the rythm in that one. The romance element really shines in "The Lady Eve" that I think it's a perfect mix of screwball and sophisticated comedy. Anyway, I think Sturges was an interesting and peculiar filmmaker. I want to see this one at some point. I really love Claudette Colbert!
