I lost my dad a couple of years ago to the same thing...he was only around for 2 months past the diagnosis. Up to a few months before that, he could out-hike me (and my kids) any day and he often did. Mom passed over a decade ago...both so much younger than I expected, both to cancers. I hope you're able to make the most of the time you have left with your mom...not to sound morose...but we never really hung out with and spent so much quality time with Dad until Mom passed. It can be an opportunity to fix things...it makes you reflect. It's good you work outside...nothing's more healing, except time. Take it easy on yourself.

Everything about your Grey's River drive was beautiful and thought provoking. The view of the aquamarine color of the lake was topnotch! Your sequeway from the burial site of the woman who died along the trail to your father's passing was touching. You honor him with your videos. In July, I lost my good friend, hiking and travel buddy to cancer. He battled for 10 years before joining his wife. I look forward to hearing more about your father. Your adventures are so much more than mere travelogs. Thank you.....

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, Robert. That was one good thing about my dad's passing-it was over relatively quickly. 3 months from the time he was diagnosed until he was gone. Enough time to come to terms with him going, but not so long that his suffering felt drawn out.

Sorry to hear about your dad, Tristan. Glad he started his son loving the outdoors because we all benefit from your great videos. Beautiful area around the rivers but as soon as you said the word “ hike” the skies opened up. Love your enthusiasm especially in a new area for you to experience with us. I too lost a parent recently, my Mom passed away 2 months ago on July 10th, she was 90 years old. I introduced her to your videos, and she greatly enjoyed them, I sent her a link to your video every Saturday morning. I miss her, as I'm sure you miss your Dad, and I miss sending her a link to your adventures. May God comfort you, as He comforts me, at this time of your loss!

My condolences on the passing of your father. My passion for the outdoors was also inspired by my father. He passed from cancer about 11 years ago. He loved camping and fishing as well as hunting. He loved taking my sons camping and fishing. He got to pass his love of the outdoors to his grandchildren as his father did with me. I found your channel when my youngest son and I decided to try Tenkara this year which also led me to this channel. I was going to buy a new truck this year, but after being inspired by this channel, my wife and I decided to get a new Ford Bronco Sport to replace our aging Chevy Trailblazer. She wants do deck it out with an awning and a tent for the back of it and take our grandson out camping on the free camping sites all over Pennsylvania. It's time for this Pappy to start sharing my love of the outdoors with our first grandson like my father and my grandfather did. Thank you for having such inspiring, family friendly channels here on RUclips!!!

From a 67 year old native East Texan born & raised in the flatlands but with mountains in my heart: love your videos. Like you, my dad instilled in me a love of travel, mountains and adventure, beginning with our first trip out west in 1965. One of the last trips he took with us -- the whole family -- was down the Greys River Canyon Rd and we camped along the way. Long before internet and RUclips, I spotted on the map what looked like a cool dirt road and daddy said, 'Let's go'. Thanks for reviving a wonderful memory for me.

What an emotional video. I’m truly sorry about the loss of your father. Obviously he (and your mother) did an amazing job of raising you and sharing his thirst for adventure. It must be wonderful knowing how supportive he was of your quests for beauty, history and inspiration. Therefore I thank and honor your father’s memory for what he instilled in you and love that you share with all of us so freely.
Hugs and prayers of comfort to you, your mom and all of those who loved or cared about your father.

Shoot, here in Texas that muddy of a river is almost clear... at least in a lot of places! Oh, and, cinematically speaking, the way you showed the atlas and the phone together was GREAT! Im connected with disaster relief: "It's fine until it wasn't." Yep. Yep. Yep! This area has intrigued my imagination since... well, it was in the 1960s! Have yet to make it back! Man, God bless you in the grieving process!

I've always liked that you start your videos with the red dot on the map of the US to show your approximate location. I thought is was a nice touch in this video to show the detailed route on the Topo map and Atlas.
I'd be interested to see you build your own camper for SOME content but hopefully you would still do mostly SUV RVing.
My condolences on the passing of your Dad.

First, my condolences on the passing of your father, that’s a hard trail to follow. With respect to your DIY towable build, yes cool to see what design you create for your purposes. I also drive a Rav4 and pondered this issue. Towing anything is a hassle, that’s the main disadvantage. Unless you can stand up, that’s another disadvantage. I finally settled on a Gazelle T3 hub tent, 2-3 minute setup and a Gazelle Gazebo. Total cost was about $600.00. I finally decided if I can’t stand up and if I can’t cook inside then a towable isn’t for me.

A couple years ago my step father passed and a few months after I lost my mother, which lead me to abruptly stop making videos until I could get my mind right...so I respect the fact you are still able to continue on making high quality videos for us all to enjoy. As for the small camper, I wouldn't mind seeing it featured occasionally on the channel and you should certainly do a video series of the build since a lot of viewers would probably be very interested in that kind of content.

To me, it doesn't matter if you are traveling in an SUV, a truck camper or pulling a trailer, it's the places and the photography that count. That being said, I think the perfect rig for you would be an F150 with a 4-Wheei pop-up camper. It will take anywhere an SUV will, but they have a nice queen-size bed, refrigerator, cooktop and running water.

Thank you for covering such a wonderful area of the country that never gets mentioned. I also thoroughly enjoyed the information on the Lander Cutoff and the Oregon Trail. It also saddens me to see the grave sites of people who never made it to the end of their dreams. Maybe some of those people were related to us, maybe not, but maybe there are some of our relatives who are buried along the wagon trails of their dreams. It always helps to remember these people and what they sacrificed for us who are here now. I was really sorry to hear about your loss of your father. The way that you have talked about him he must have really loved you and must have been so proud of you.

As usual, a great intro to an area most of us know nothing about. Thanx for the trip and letting us know this is truly available to most of us!

Oh this is an area I trek through often. I have a little property just on the other side of the Salt River Range. You did a wonderful job of portraying its beauty and its history. So sorry about the passing of your father. Being out in nature and honoring his memory is cathartic in your grieving process.

My condolences for the loss of your Dad, Tristan. I am happy that you were able to spend a lot of time with him in his last months. I'm sure he was very proud of you and enjoyed your adventures too. I'm sending good vibes and prayers for comfort to you and your family.
This was a terrific video. I loved how you traced the river to it's origin. Looks like a wonderful area to get away to when we want to avoid the crowds. Have you ever tried staying at any of the Guard Stations in WY? The La Barge Guard Station was very near you.

This one was quite special. Loved it. Following a river to its source, immigrant tales, new places for free camping with great details, all very scenic, just great.
Thanks so much. And PLEASE do the mini camper thing!

My mom died just a few weeks ago. Its definitely more than sad.. a surreal feeling. I love watching your videos always, but this one really touched me. Will spend some time there this year!

My husband built our little trailer for under $1000. It doesn't have a kitchen. We carry a shelf and gas stove in the back of the Renegade. The trailer is less than 1000 lbs. It has a bed, a separate gas heater, electric hookup. We got a regular size mattress and have shelves and lights. Our refrigerator is in the car, too. Be sure to get a pretty heavy duty axel. We bent ours in Yellowstone camping at Fishing Bridge.

Yet another beautiful Adventure. I would absolutely follow her on if you did a build out, but I will also admit that I follow you not because of the SUV but because of the places that you go, and part to give me ideas about where I would like to go, but also to see places that I would never go and see :-). We watch all of the content you produce on this channel and your Tenkara channel (My husband is getting Tenkara curious - Especially for some of the smaller streams that he wouldn’t fly fish now because of space constraints). I think it’s lovely that you associate your adventurous spirit with your dad, and that you share that same spirit with us. His support will always remain with you always

Condolences on the loss of your father. If he was anything like you, he must have been a wonderful man.
This video was fabulous - chock full of stuff!
    1. Breakfast of champions???? Pizza and Red Bull? Enjoy it while you’re young and healthy dear! 😀
    2. I love that you show the map in the atlas and online. You’re a great teacher.
    3. Caught in rain without poncho? With some tape, you might have been able to craft one out of your space blanket.
    4. I love the concept of following the river up to it’s source.
    5. The pioneer graves were a neat history lesson, and very poignant.
    6. Camper as a base camp. Great idea! Just get one that’s very secure so it doesn’t get stolen or broken into.

I would definitely check out your videos about the travel trailer. I enjoy your content and the way you tell a story, it is quite unique and something new isn't a bad thing. Safe travels Tristan!
