    Really appreciate that you didn't have a Montblanc, VIsconti, etc. in your current favorites. Love TWSBI and would like to get the Diamond 580 - White w/Rose Gold. Thanks, Liane.

    I purchased my first fountain pen after falling in love with the hobonichi weeks and thought why not try the fancy pens out lol. Well this year I switched to a midori A6 notebook as my bullet journal/planner and I lasted 1 month in it before deciding that I missed the hobonichi paper and even though it took hours to set up my planner for the whole year I still started over with a hobonichi notebook

      I hate when that happens! All the setup to find out it wasn't the experience you had hoped for! Hobonichi paper is lovely.

    I feel like you're making ink crepes. I'm very disappointed that you haven't grown beyond the TWSBIs 😛 I have a Sailor Compass and it is very smooth, so I think you got a lemon nib. Because it is an MF, and much finer than I thought, I do not prefer it. When I am ready to off load some pens, that will be one of the first to go, but it is remarkably smooth.
    Have you tried Cosmo Air paper? There is also Graphilo, but that is so hard to find, but as good as TR. Right now I am going to be cracking a Peter Pauper Press journal very soon. Very eager to see how this works, because an A5 is too small for me, it's reasonably prices, 120 GSM and some of the most exquisite covers one can have. That is definitely a way I'd like to record my life.

    My favorite paper is actually found in UStyle notebooks, a Walmart brand of all things. I realize some people don't care to support Walmart, and I understand that, but it's really great paper for a really great price. Although my experience with Tomoe River is somewhat limited, I find the UStyle to be better for sheening, which I love sheening inks. It's also thicker than TR, which I personally prefer. I will say I think TR might handle shimmer a little better.

    That wearingeul ink is fantastic. I've been imagining a muted orange colour but wasn't sure which one would fit my imagination. I think I'll replace my fuyu gaki with it because fuyu gaki is a bit too bright for note taking at work imo. Thanks!

    Good ink choices, the pens perfectly fine and not bank account breaking, but I’d like more focus on loose sheet paper. I’m not a journal junkie; instead old school correspondent. I write letters to friends (they claim I’m alone in this regard), and I’m always searching for fountain pen friendly paper. Please do a deep dive into Japanese stationery. 🙏

    The Tang mi se blue resembles the tiles in the London Underground Stations about 100 years ago or a bit older.
    I did never care about paper too much. If it works, I'm fine. And here in Europe you mostly get fountain pen friendly paper even the cheapest.
    Worst is copy or printing paper, and post-it note paper.
    Since I use fountain pens for 30 years or so whenever I write by hand, l never spent much money on paper. I just use some note paper, preferably recycling paper, and as lightweight as possible.
    Years ago it was sort of a standard to have either 65 or 80gsm notepaper.
    Recently, it has become difficult to find anything less than 90gsm, which is sad for environmental reasons and impractical for archiving,because you then need more space for it than necessary, and, if not 100% out of recycled material, it also costs the live of more trees than reasonnable.
    My at the moment favourite fountain pen is a Pelican M205, because it's my first piston filler. I besides of that like Parkers and Kaweco's.
    My least favourite ink is any kind of royal (standard) blue. For the rest, I like light blue and pastel colours.

    Fun fact! Tang Mi Se Blue is called blue, rather than green, (I assume) because some cultures don’t differentiate between green and blue. “Green” is a relatively new word in Chinese and Japanese cultures.

    Smiling about the scratchy sailor compass... Feedback in pens is so controversial! I love my Sailor steel nib and my Auroras... I feel like they're whispering to me. But there's a limit: I have an EF Jinhao that is like "writing with a nail" as the Inkquiring Minds guy put it. I was really thrown by my first truly smooth writing gold nib because I'm so used to nibs that talk back a little more than that. Anyway I love finding out what people do and don't like because this hobby is full of endless possibilities. We all have our own way.

    • @lianelikes

    I love the Twisbi minis too. I'm curious why you chose the 1.1 stub nib over the bold nib. I am thinking about getting another mini in a broader nib and had thought bold would be good for shimmer inks. But now you have me curious about the 1.1 stub. I did try it once in a Swipe and it seemed too wet but it might've been the ink. Thanks!

    • @lianelikes
      @lianelikes  Год назад +2

      I didn't think I'd like the stub nib but I prefer it over the broad nib. It does lay down a wetter, more generous line but I want it that way for my shimmer inks. I prefer using the stub nib now!

    Beautiful autumn colors -never a bad time of year to get into that vibe. Similar feeling on the Sailor compass, though I've kept mine and it is slowly becoming more tolerable to me - I'm also about a year into fountain pens so I'm allowing some time to see how my tastes might change. To really show ink, do you prefer the TWSBI 1.1 stub or the broad? It sounded like you started with a broad nib then changed to 1.1, and I'm curious because I'm looking at getting a TWSBI Eco for the purpose of laying down lots of ink and I'm on the fence between those nib sizes. I realize it comes down to preference, but curious what you like best for that purpose? Thanks!

    • @lianelikes
      @lianelikes  Год назад +1

      I typically don't like stub nibs but I'm very happy I switched. Had a bit of flow difficulty with the broad nib, but now the flow is easy with the stub! I recommend you give it a try, especially for shimmer inks. With non-shimmer inks, I'll stick to non-stub nibs.

    A friendly warning about the Darling channel: That person tends to be quite foul-mouthed when frustrated in any small way. The vod from a stream that I watched just now was astonishingly potty-mouthed again and again when the supposed subject matter was just testing an ink. I wouldn't dare watch anything further on that channel without headphones/earbuds in place. Don't need a 6-year-old within earshot beginning to swear like a middle-aged vulgarian or pen friends getting grossed out because I recommended videos by someone who spews crass language over and over because a pen has skipped.
