    My wife and I cooked in a wilderness camp cook off. We made home made clam chowder and a loaf of your sourdough (cast iron) dutch oven on coals bread and these blue berry cream cheese sour dough crusted turn overs deep fried. These helped us win first prize! Thanks Kent and Shannon! My wife has bought me BOTH your cook books!

    Hi Kent this is Harry Rodriguez from the Bronx, N.Y. For anybody reading, I called Kent to tell him how much my wife and I enjoyed his channel and Kent actually took the time to call me and say how much he appreciated my phone call. I am mostly impressed athow humble Kent is and how much thanks he gives to the Veterans of this great country. I being a Marine Veteran and having a daughter serving in our great United States Air Force, I tip my cover to you Kent. Thank you and Shannon for your great channel. God bless you and God bless the U.S.A. 🇺🇸

      Do you know of biscuit pudding? My grandmother made it ,so good. I remember her starting it in the skillet and baked in a loaf pan ! She had to hide the biscuits so she could make it. It's not a bread pudding with the sauce poured over dry bread she crumbled the biscuits in the skillet. I just remember melted butter and milk and eggs.

    I'm your typical 25 year old city boy who spends way to much time on RUclips. You know the type. I have to say though this is one of my top 3 favorite channels. The comedy, the advice, the simplicity, and the many errors and imperfections are what make this channel a gem. This channel has changed my life. I cook at home a lot and try most recipies on this channel. I own one Teflon skillet, one steel stock pot and all my other cookware is my vintage cast iron collection I have been squirting for 2 years. Having cookware I have to take care of is the only thing sometimes that modivates me to cook proper home meals. I built myself an outdoor grill/ stove/ oven and cook at least one meal a week outdoors over the wood I gather and love every second of it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Mr. Cowboy

      @@josephcampese5347 Im gonna be real with you Chief... Black coffee sucks actual ass with turnovers. Now a glass of ice cold milk, that you just got from the cow, and skimmed a couple of times without pasteurizing it is the best with these turnovers.

    • @josephcampese5347
      @josephcampese5347 5 лет назад +1

      @@TheSchizo2 you're doin' it wrong. You don't add fat to fat. You cut fat with something astringent. It brings the taste out. For example, lime squeeze, vinegar based hot sauce, alcoholic beverages with fatty meat and fish. It's the concept when eating sorbet in fine dining. I'll admit to it being an acquired taste. But in the end it's a more nuanced, developed and sophisticated experience than the Chucky Cheese route you like.

    Fried Huckleberry pies have been a family tradition for us for 34 yrs, and probably 100+ yrs in my wife's family. Yummy! But I couldn't leave well enough alone, and now we've got a Brand-Spankin'-New, family tradition. Fried Roasted-Turkey pies, Fried Roasted-Sweet Potato pies, Fried Jalapeño-Bacon-Cream cheese pies, Fried Asparagus-Roasted Red Pepper-Garlic pies, and Fried Peach-Cranberry pies! Yep, our entire Thanksgiving dinner was done with fried pies, and it was an Awesome success! My daughter helped me by filling the pies and crimping them down, while I did the frying. Every thing was prepped/cooked the day before, including the dough being rolled out and cut into 5" circles ready for filling! I think we did about 75 pies, all told! =8')

    These remind me of the dried apple pies that my grandmother and mother use to make.For simplicity,they would just use cheap canned biscuits,roll them out,then place the apples in them,and fold them over and fork seal them,and put them in the oven and bake them.Then when they were done,you could take them out,put a little butter on them,and mmm,mmm good.They would dry the apples,freeze them,then take them out and cook them with seasonings,to form a paste like consistency.They would make a bunch,and they would last several days,if we didn't eat them all.Keep up the good work,enjoy your videos.

    After a slight mishap, I needed advice/help with cast iron. I found Kent and Shannon. It's turned out to be one heckuva gold mine of not only how to restore and maintain cast iron cookware, which I've become hooked to now, but the recipes are the Best too. My advice, don't waste your electronic ink chasing videos that use oven cleaner to clean your cast iron, or even ones that spend more time trying to justify using cast iron on a glasstop electric stove. Details about your antique cookware can be found by googling it by brand, etc. If you want sound, common sense come to Kent and his better half Shannon. They entertain you while you learn. So glad I subscribed! Another great idea you two! 🇺🇸🎄

    When my kids were in elementary school, I used to make fried apple pies and take to school. By the time I got to the teacher's break room, most of the teachers from all over the school met me there. Used a mix of tart and sweet apples. Never had any left to bring back home.

    Enjoyed the video Kent. My paternal grandmother (98!) to this day uses lard in her pie crust, it's this best thing this side of heaven. My maternal grandfather used to make fried pies with filling that was almost entirely dried fruit (whatever was handy) rehydrated and with a little butter. Folks - spend time with your grandparents learning the recipes and history that they learned from their grandparents.

    My great grandmother, Eveline Kirksey would make apricot and apple. She had lots of dried fruit on hand and she would reconstitute the dried apples / dried apricots / dried peaches into a thick paste. You dont want it runny it needs to be thick to stand inside the dough when you fold the otherside over. she never did sweeten it much but I add sugar to it but not much because you want the tart in it. Make your dough, roll it out put the filling in it and fry. it was so good. She used a fork to crimp too

      I am also a Texan and I grew up in Oklahoma so I've heard that joke [the "not so nice one"] all my life. Either of the versions also explain why the trees all lean to the north - God was visitin' Texas while Cowboy Kent was cooking in Oklahoma!
