Bohm is sometimes too slow, but his Mozart is excellent. I have heard his version of the 9 Beethoven symphony it is SOOOO slow. But Mozart is wonderful, have listened to all bohms versions a million times. They are BEST.
boehm conducts wonderfully slow, allegro moderato gives the right to do so, and so you can hear all the beauty of mozarts music. most of the great conductors of the past chose similar tempi, like klemperer and walter, and clearly conduct in 4 not in 2 like many modern conductors. i also believe in 4 in this movement, as well in the 2nd movement the slower version is better
Originally it was scored for oboes, horns, and strings. Mozarts symphonies are usually scored as such, although the changes in orchestration practice that occurred during his lifetime show in his occassional inclusion of clarinets (then a nascent instrument) and bassoons. Mozart was the last great composer to use this more traditional instrumentation.
Bohm recorded this with the Berlin Philharmonic in the studio in the 60's at a slightly faster tempo. Towards the end of his life Bohm seemed to get a little slower and sometimes heavy handed. Anyone else notice that Bohm never seemed to age? He's at least 80 in this video!
I used to be like "why so slow" when I listened to Bohm. But after listening to him, now when I listen to faster intepretations, sometimes I'm like "slow down! you're destroying all the wonderful details and the beautiful melodic lines." I think Bohm's slow tempo add a extra dimension to Mozart's symphonies most of the time. Of course, there're times it doesn't work, e.g. No. 25 Mov 1, I definitely prefer it played at a reasonably fast tempo. But Bohm's slow tempo works well here.
Bohm's Mozart 29th symphony is the best. Others are too fast. Mozart would have agreed with this if he had listened to this, even though he wanted the symphony to be played fast.
I'm falling asleep with this slow interpretation----and this is a Mozart symphony I know well. I'm glad Bohm wasn't the conductor of my city's orchestra.
I agree with the complaints concerning tempi. Bohm /VPO is a great combination but the tempo just doesnt sound/feel right . He generally preferred leisurely tempi.. but this....I have a recording of this conducted on original instruments by Trevor Pinnock and the tempi there is at the other extreme. Too fast and aggressive !
Excellent orchestra, director and composer. 5 stars of course!
Amadeus Mozart!
Coming back to this, not having listened to this or any other version for a week, the tempo seems perfect to me. I wouldn't make it click faster.
Didn't find it it that slow. It is GREAT.
TREMENDO ÓRGANO!!! Que lindo todo *-*
Obra maestra! de las grandes!
Realmente hermoso, me inspira...me encanta

bohm & viena philharmonic: this is a perfect combinarion...which brings me back to good old days.
There is something of irreducible genius in this -- creation and realization alike.
...! Zdravím z Brna.
perfect tempo

that's exactly what I was thinking right now!
This is the perfect tempo! Why complain? Mozart wrote Allegro moderato on his score. Not just a plain Allegro. The tempo is fine!
fantastico.
I hear the Euphonium :) My instrument of choice
Hermoso
Sedate and relaxed yes but still wonderful.

Yo amo desde el 0:00 hasta el 9:13 !!!
@dimmii100
perfect
A mi me encanta
I agree, it is a little slower than normal

OMG...this Karl Bohm must an old frog for choosing such a slow tempo. He makes you feel as if you're in a nursing home.
nueve personas tienen problemas..........SERIOS
If forced to choose, I'd always choose too slow over too fast...
whats the difference between concerto and symphonie?
The tempo is correct! karajan play it alegro.
Fuck ya'll - I like it!
I'm falling asleep with this slow interpretation----and this is a Mozart symphony I know well. I'm glad Bohm wasn't the conductor of my city's orchestra.
Lord save me from RUclips "experts"!
It's only me or the orchestra is tuned at 442Hz?
@isisyea Jajajaá, sí, muy serios.

tempo is perfect, no mamen
apparently this was not mozart's intention!
@alilapointe1 you're so funny loooool
Loved it, althought I prefer this movement a bit faster.
Bohm was a master, but this 1st movement seems entirely too slow. It reminds me of when I thought the batteries in my walkman were running down.
deliciosa
Indescribable from beginning to end! who's idiot enough to not like it??
Allegro Moderato - not Allegro lento
I think it's too slow...
I think Mozart would have done this a bit faster. :)
Jesus Christ, the conductor seems to be missing the point of this piece. Lol perhaps he would have understood when he was also in his teens...
Karl Bohm conducts like an old man, as if he is in a wheelchair or on a cane
it lacks energy... and the sound is not so god either.
Ein bisschen schneller! Es ist keine probe!
@minasgekos and neither is your writing loool
Zzzzzzz...Bohm troppo lento!!!!
