No other conductor plays the Benedictus better than Karajan here. Everything is working out great : soulfulness, depth of reverence, an ethereal atmosphere shimmering with beauty and refinement. The ending of this section is so beautiful that it hurts. The slow tempo allows Karajan to let Beethoven sing.
Gosh -- I don't have to die to go to heaven; I am already there listening to this, the best performance ever of the Missa Solemnis. That you so much for this, and its fine sound!
L' ARMONIA DEL CIELO,LA PACE NELL' ANIMA, SI FONDONO...LASCIANDO IL FEDELE INEBRIATO DI AMORE AL DIVINO SALVATORE: GESÚ!! OPERA SOMMA...THANKS FOR YOU ANGELIST BEETHOVEN.
I just heard this performed at Disney Music Hall conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas and a wonderful cast of soloists and the L.A. Master Chorale. I've been searching for a version to match the beautiful live version still fresh in my mind. I ordered the Klemperer version but I will now add this version to my collection. Gundula is superb and the violinist exquisite.
Have you the Deutsche Grammophone recording of the 1968 Version of CARMINA BURANA? Janowitz....exquisite, as is Fischer-Dieskau, et. al. p.s. I performed this at Carnegie in NYC, but this is not among my favorites. Perhaps you can find the Orff piece on RUclips....the particular one I referred to. It is THE. BEST. EVER. und.....alles gute. Du Holde Kunst, ich Danke dir!
+visualdog Klemperer's recording is indeed great, but along with that I would say to try Christian Thielemann, to me it's a lot cleaner, clearer than the Klemperer, more punctuated, it has a greater musical presence if you will. Fabio Luisi also did a truly spectacular recording of this work. And finally, I would say to try Nikolaus Harnoncourt, it's a bit slower, but it's deeply calming and peaceful, quite introspective when you're in such a mood. And the best thing is they're all available here on YT. The one with Luisi is live recorded, well they all are actually, but something special about the one with Luisi is the stunning auditorium, the architecture is amazing, as is the performance.
the MOST thrilling performance of this work....Karajan, Janowitz !!!! Ludwig, Wunderlich and Berry......... as somebody wrote below ...this music is HEAVEN..... thanks Beethoven
Best violin version I've heard yet - total commitment. Don't often hear lead violins bring their own personality into their playing like this - not even solosts for that matter. He certainly plays here like a top soloist bringing great colour. At times seems a bit too slow though I think.
They were not listening to Beethoven, they were listening for minor, imagined imperfections in performance. There are too many of those in the world. They seek self aggrandisement by looking for what they consider to be imperfection in others.

Beyond Sublime. Thanks to God for this gift to Beethoven and for the inspired musicians who bring this gift to us
Een van de beste uitvoeringen van dit werk dat ik ken, grijpt je naar de strot en laat je niet meer los, Benedictus, Gezegend, thanks Beethoven!

The best version. Amazing orchestra, chorus and very good soloists. The sir Karajan was a genius.
Berry and Janowitz "very good"? Two immortals.
@@dthomases1 All four were great singers.
Heaven is here and so real listening to all of you, especially to Gundula! Wish I could meet her!
Indeed the best! I keep coming back.

Großartige performance: einmalige Emotionalität - Missa solemnis geht bei Chören (selbst dabei gewesen) und Solisten an Belastungsgrenzen
The best !
Heavenly music❤

Je pense que les trois "négatifs" se sont trompés de boutons ou alors ils sont malheureusement sourds !!!!!!
