Dragon would’ve actually been a Pegasus… the writers of Shrek confirmed that In a couple interviews. That they considered revealing her “true form” as a Pegasus in Shrek 2 but ultimately decided against it when the movie time would run too long. And also. This “theory” isn’t consistent with Shrek finding Fiona in her princess form. If he arrived by night, she would be in her ogre form. Shrek found her during day time. It’s “dark” because of the cloud coverage surrounding the tower. Not because it’s “night time”.
But doesnt the spell reach a point where the person will be permanently transformed? Im pretty sure Fiona said that. And if thats it, the dragon might actully been permanently transformed so the day/night cicle doesnt matter anymore. Also, theres a few dead warriors around, but Im pretty sure Shrek was the first to try and rescue Fiona, so the others were actually looking for someone before her, wich reinforce that they got there looking for the blonde princess and found her transformed
3 things: 1) If Shrek and Donkey arrived at the castle at night when She's a Dragon instead of a princess then Fiona would've been in ogre form. I think the confusion comes from the castle being situated on top of a volcano(I think?) and the sky and sun are being blotted out by all the dark clouds. 2) I don't think we see Dragon and Donkey kiss in the 1st movie and I don't think we see Dragon at night at all in the 1st movie either. 3) The book at the beginning states that the princess is cursed AND is guarded by a dragon so I think the art clues he looks at are just coincidence. This could still be possible if you change 1 aspect of this theory. Dragon has an inverse curse of Fiona(Dragon by Day, Princess by Night) and its possible that both were put in the castle at the same time to help guard each other. Just a thought. Sorry for the long post
His theory is shot down by the very next page in the fairy-tale book plus dragon in dragon form, and human form fiona are seen at same the time multiple times throughout the movie including doing the rescue scenes
This is so deep too. Any woman would freak out like that if all men come to rescue another woman instead of her. On top of that it also sends the message to all the dragons out there. Just wait for your donkey. 🥰

And based on canon
To expand upon that, the reason Dragon shows up in her dragon form at the end of the movie during the day is because she shared true love’s kiss with Donkey and not a prince, which had the same effect as Shrek and Fiona’s.
And besides that, she was sad not just because her first love had left, but also because she didn't transform back into a human during the day like she used to.
I still want to know what happened to her when Donkey had the potion. Bc both Shrek and Fiona were human. Do you think Dragon became a human and not a horse? I wonder what her name was as a human.
But you see if we were to go by the logic of donkey loved her as Dragon so she stayed dragon that wouldn't make sense because Fiona was human and Shrek did not know that she turned into an ogre when he found out he still loved her no matter what form but her true form was the human form but she still turned into an ogre when she kissed Shrek so technically donkey should have turned Dragon into a donkey honestly homegirl probably just accepted her fate and settled
When shrek and donkey rescued fiona it was actually day, it just the volcano that made it look night-like, this is confirmed in the next scene where just after rescuing her you can see it's daylight when fiona tries to kiss shrek
In the Shrek movie universe Donkey comes from the story of the Donkey of Seville (in the Shrek book he appears, but in the movies it is from another story) and as in the story of the Donkey of Seville The donkey is a charming prince, he must be kissed by his true love so that he transforms into a human, and the kiss of true love can give you the shape in which you want your lover, but the Dragon wanted him as a talking donkey more than a charming prince and Donkey loved her more as a Dragon more than a beautiful princess, that's REAL LOVE RIGHT THERE
Actually makes sense, maybe she knew Fiona before and is why she was guarding her at the castle. She stayed in dragon form as she fell in love with Donkey who loved her as a dragon (+ it’s hard enough to swallow the fact a donkey and a dragon got busy with each other, try explaining half human half donkey babies to your kids). I can’t believe I never realised this before though.
This could explain so much, all the Blonde Princess wanted was her own Fairytale but with Knights showing up after sunset and trying to kill her thinking she was a Monster, she grew resentful. Hence why she fell for Donkey, someone who wasn't a Knight or even human but still complimented her eyes and praised her beauty, something she always wanted.
But why continue the story with Fiona and not give the slightest hint of the dragon being one? How is she always in chains if she can turn human during the day? Honestly, this is just a reach but a good theory though.

Donkey is actually a cursed human (look up Pinocchio and talking donkeys). Which means both Donkey and the Dragon are just a pair of cursed humans who found each other. Very wholesome.
There is also another story (most haven't heard about) about a man who ate some cabbages from a person's garden that turned him into a donkey because he was stealing. Though the Pinocchio theory would explain why he acts like a child.
This also explains why Dragon is present at the Baby Shower scene in Shrek the Third, a scene in which all the other princesses made it a point to be there.
Imagine a movie from the dragon's perspective that has her in her human form until the final act, but the movie is never advertised as being a prequel to Shrek. Instead, it seems to be a self contained fantasy until the princess is eventually converted, revealing she's the dragon.
Donkey already knows. He recognizes polymorphism anywhere, he even says it at the beginning of the first movie. He also says, “you my princess” right at the dragon.
@@plammber He was disgusted when Fiona changed into an ogre, but never had a problem when she was a human. Donkey truly shows the aspect of a human sympathizer. Remember when donkey first met Shrek? He didn't like him either. He kept trying to get accepted back into human civilization, but they kicked him out because he's a talking donkey. I believe the moral of Shrek and Donkey is that both sides of conflicting worldviews can live together as friends.
@@ioriyoshida11Really? I've always thought because he was annoying talking too much, after all the old lady complained about this as a reason to sold him😂
I would say this is true. To add onto that, since Shrek and Donkey went to rescue Fiona during the daytime, it can be assumed that ultimately she gave up on true love and accepted her form as a dragon, while cursing this world and not letting anyone save Fiona so that she (the dragon) would never be alone, by having someone who understood what she was going through. So honestly, the fact that she was loved by Donkey meant that though it was too late to break the curse, that didn't mean she had to give up on love and could start anew. Beautiful storytelling!
Also, Donkey is a nod to Lampwick, if not Lampwick himself, a boy cursed into a donkey's form, who was briefly friends with Pinocchio. It would be interesting if the guy permanently turned into a donkey happened to marry a girl turned permanently into a dragon...
That is her happily ever after when you say she didn't mean to had to give up on love and start a new, though Donkey is a powerless and submissive fellow could face a dreadful dragon amongs all the knights that were armored with great weapons couldn’t even defeat the dragon, so Donkey is a Legend.
No... I'm sorry but there is a major flaw in your theory... The dragon never turns back into a princess... The curse only transforms the princess at night meaning by day she should be a princess but in every movie the dragon stays a dragon both Day and night...
Not valid The enchant turns her to a dragon at night and human at day It’s not something you can accept as it’s the rules of the enchant That dragon in shrek stayed a dragon 100% of times plus doesn’t the dragon give us a little back story in shrek? Or clues to a backstory?
either way I'd say Dragoon was still a prisoner in her own home, frequently getting invaded by stupid nights that were trying to kill her. Shrek and Donkey were the only people who didn't try to kill Dragon.
@@CivilizedAnimal2022 She was already pregnant with the Dronkeys before her transformation, though? That's why Donkey was alone at Shrek's house and said she was acting moody and wanted him to leave her alone. And he was with Shrek the entire time she was alone. There's an extra mid-credits scene in Shrek 2 that shows her arriving at Far Far Away with the babies.
You see the thing about Shrek is that he's an ogre, and an ogre is a lot like an onion. Just as there are many layers that make up an onion, there also many layers that make up the Shrek lore.
While, this theory is interesting it’s going to be hard to do that without canceling out the concept that dragon is supposed to represent maleficent. They have all of the classic fairytale characters and their corresponding villains. peep the green eyes and if you’re really a movie head, go back and watch the films and look at sleeping beauties reaction the first time she sees dragon😂
@@katiebugg7018 Well Maleficent was herself a princess at one time. So who is to say that she gave up on love. Then in the Shrek tale, she finds true love. Even more fodder, the man hating Queen / Dragon, won over by the reformed bad boy. Now all we need is a cricket to seal the wicket.
1 : the book do not say that she's cursed to be transformed into a dragon at night, it just says that she had an enchantment upon her and we see a dragon. 2 : we saw the dragon multiple time in daylight 3 : The next page of the book literaly says that she's locked away in a castle garded by a terrible dragon ! The other next page says that she waited in the dragon's keep ! And it's never sayd that knight only come at night. The one who made this, skip multiple pagesof the book on purpose or only remember what he want for his narative that make no sense.
it wasn’t night time when shrek and donkey went to the castle. Otherwise fiona would have been an ogre when they showed up. His premise that the dragon was a princess who turned into a dragon at night would be invalid since the dragon was a dragon durning the day when they went to rescue fiona
Her curse is likely stuck since she missed her window to break it. That’s why she’s still a dragon even after getting with donkey…. Or maybe her true love needs to be a human which wouldn’t count because he still wouldn’t be her one true love after donkey
@@auburntigerzzher curse was stuck. There’s usually a timeline put on things like that. Whereas Fiona’s curse was more so a side deal between her dad and her fairy god mother to get her son married to Fiona by having him be the one to save her from the castle but that never happened.
Fiona was literally locked away when she was very young. 7 if you go by the musical, possibly younger just on the films. It makes sense from her parents that she would be blonde and not be specific about the curse since the whole point was hiding her till true loves kiss. That was kinda the whole point of the book in Shrek and became more specific in Shrek 2 when she was out and everyone knew about her.
Also notice that the castle on the first page is the same one that Fiona was locked in. So it was most likely Princess 1's castle/kingdom that was quickly abandoned once she started becoming a dragon at night.
Either that, or Donkey may have been referencing a recurring joke from an old sitcom called "Sanford & Son" where the character, Fred Sanford, dramatically fakes a heart attack and yells, "I'm coming Elizabeth!".
Have you ever wondered how could donkey have kids with a dragoness? It's because of the potion. It turn living beings and their mates into what they perceive is a true beauty. Which means when donkey drank the potion it also turned the dragon into a horse making them compatible 😅
That's why when donkey say that stuff about slaying the dragon before they go in to the castle, shrek jokes or thinks he's talking about Fiona sayings she should be at the top of the castle but donkey says he was talking about the dragon. They foreshadowed that the dragon was a princess or even THE princess that needed saving as well.
they had lots of babies.. now that you think about it, if she turns back to a princess during the day.. and donkey and her are doing it.. 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Interesting idea for a curse on a princess: turning into a dragon at Knights. Not based on time or anything, just being near the kind of person normally employed as their personal guards, better soldiers, and lower political marriage options.
It happens a lot in films and particularly animated films. The meta narratives go deeper than the people who use them realize in many cases. Modern trained writers think of them as plot devices and tools to tell a story but they are rooted in human psychology and communicate the same narratives found in things like religion and political narratives. Humans are merely expressions of the Gods and the stories we tell ourselves are the means in which they play the puppeteer.
Uhhh is no one talking about the fact that when donkey and the dragon met up for the 2nd time as they actually fell in love near the end of the 1st movie, its during the day lol
I’m pretty sure whatever happened to Fiona in Shrek 4. Is what happened to the dragon. Eventually they’re stuck as their second form. Since the prince never came
If you watch the opening scene you can definitely tell the blonde princess is depicting Fiona. It literally shows her laying in the bed while the big red dragon is on guard. The way someone is depicted in a book is not always historically accurate.
Red hair wasn't always envied lol Plus, history isn't always accurate. So, the difference between the two books could all be down to different authors or artists' interpretation.
Plus it explains why Dragon & Fiona have such a good Friendship after being rescued, Dragon was probably Forced to guard Fiona and given that Dragon Form to help make it easier; Dragon would become a Human during the day and spend time with Fiona (she was probably her sparring partner too since it's extremely difficult to learn Martial Arts on your own) and protect Fiona from Would be Rescuers until Prince Charming showed up. When Charming would show up Dragon would put up an act but ultimately let Charming "Slay Her", that way when Fairy Godmother broke the Curse on Dragon no one would ever suspect that She Was the Fearsome Dragon Fairy Godmother (as she usually does when granting Wishes) probably threatened to never undo the Spell if someone else got to Fiona first, which is why Dragon is so distraught when Donkey finds her in the forest after the group initially breaks up after Shrek presents Fiona to Lord Farquad. Dragon was depressed that she'd have to spend the rest of her life in a Monstrous Form.
Bruh. That's a great way to explain any holes in the original theory. I was thinking "this is great but why did she stay a dragon?" But bringing up fairy godmother makes 100 percent sense since she was so petty and conniving. You gotta pitch this to DreamWorks
@@ricksanchez3695 and also why we never see Dragon in Shrek 2 after Donkey and Shrek drink FGM's "Happily Ever After" Potion and turn into their Ideal versions of themselves. I'm sure Dragon probably transformed back into her human version during that time period. Also I think in the first Movie, Dragon & Donkey reunited during the day which puts a hole in my theory...
@@zenos02 actually, with what you described, Donkey meeting Dragon during the day might actually still fit, because Fairy Godmother probably had her curse set up so the moment someone took Fiona from the tower other than Prince Charming, the curse would become permanent. That, or maybe it was still similar to Fiona's curse, because didn't Donkey and Dragon kiss at the tower? (haven't watched the movie in awhile, so I don't remember the specifics of that scene)
If the dragon can become human why did it never including when marring donkey. She was on t in the day all the time. Unless she chose that form 24/7 this makes little sense
It took me about 15 seconds to realize and start tearing up that Shrek came out about 20yrs ago and I remember watching it in cinema and renting it from blockbusters. 😢damn I'm old
If u take a look, it was broad daylight when Shrek and donkey visited the castle. And also, if Fiona and the dragon have the same curse, Fiona would've been an ogre by the time Shrek saw her.
Or it could’ve been that Dragon’s curse was that she couldn’t leave to the castle, but she was bound to it until Donkey came, and then she was able to finally leave. Just a thought😅
There's just one major problem with this theory. It was day when Shrek and Donkey arrived. If dragon was cursed like Fiona, she would be in human form.
Not "major", the spells can expire if no one breaks the spells with true love or whatever.... I Mean that was the whole point of the movie, how could You miss that 😂😅
@@johnmelendez8717but here's the kicker though donkey and the dragon had babies and it says their loves first kiss so if they love each other and they kiss the spell would be broken turn on her back into human so it's not the other blonde princess
This actually makes sense. Donkey managed to woo her with praise and compliments and for the first time in her life, she met someone who saw her for more than just being a dragon. In that moment she felt like a princess who met her knight in shining armour. Something she's wanted to feel ever since she was cursed. That means if this is true, then it's confirmed that in the second movie when Donkey became a stallion, she reverted back to her princess form.
Only issue here is that Fiona also transforms at night and yet she was in human form when Shrek and Donkey showed up to rescue her. So it was day-time when that portion of the movie happened and Dragon was still very much a dragon.
@@anthonygarcia5746Fiona didn’t remain an ogre because she accepted her fate. The curse was that it would be stopped by true loves kiss. She chose to wait till sunset to transform back to an ogre to kiss shrek. She didn’t just say “hey I wanna be an ogre poof”

now i need a story about two cursed princesses in a castle where one turns into a dragon and protects the other princess
Donkey already knows. He recognizes polymorphism anywhere, he even says it at the beginning of the first movie. He also says, “you my princess” right at the dragon.
But it could be romantic too😅❤
he didn't recognize fiona at all...
Donkey knowing polymorphism makes sense, since he was a child before
@@ioriyoshida11Really? I've always thought because he was annoying talking too much, after all the old lady complained about this as a reason to sold him😂

Took me minute of watching your video to realize it's been 20 years since I first seen Shrek 😮
“Turns into a dragon at night”
Shows a picture of the dragon during the day 😂
And true.
Love's first kiss keeps her in the form that she stays in permanent. So that also means she's going to stay as a dragon in love with Donkey
wait didn't she kiss shreks a** 😂
And he's going to stay a donkey in love with a dragon. Seeing them as humans (and not happy about it) would be a real twist!
😢😢😢😢😢
No... I'm sorry but there is a major flaw in your theory... The dragon never turns back into a princess... The curse only transforms the princess at night meaning by day she should be a princess but in every movie the dragon stays a dragon both Day and night...
Not valid
The enchant turns her to a dragon at night and human at day
It’s not something you can accept as it’s the rules of the enchant
That dragon in shrek stayed a dragon 100% of times plus doesn’t the dragon give us a little back story in shrek? Or clues to a backstory?
it took me 1 rewatch to realise that the first book you showed had no princess while the 2nd one had the blond princess
The music and his expressions makes this so much more intense
So basically, Fiona and the dragon, both were prisioners.
either way I'd say Dragoon was still a prisoner in her own home, frequently getting invaded by stupid nights that were trying to kill her. Shrek and Donkey were the only people who didn't try to kill Dragon.
The dragon literally was chained to the castle so yeah she definitely was the prisoner
But Dragon was placed there to keep Fiona there. I don’t think the castle is Dragon’s home😬
Yep but thanks to Shrek and Donkey, they're both free now.
@@ILoveAnimation2and fiona doesn't realize that the dragon isn't there during the day

I was gonna say donkey don’t kiss he just hits.
🤣 Yes! That is exactly what happens!

My mind is truly blown now...😮
This is sweet ❤
I know most creatures in shrek are intelligent, but the dragon always stood out to me by how human her response was to donkeys compliments.
Ah! The more I watch these the more I love shrek!
donkey loved her how she was poor dude got to give it to him he would make one hell of a dnd character
This also means when Donkey drank the potion, the Dragon became the Princess again. That's also probably why she was never shown
It's actually been explained by the creators that she DID transform off-screen, but she turned into a Pegasus.

@@CivilizedAnimal2022 She was already pregnant with the Dronkeys before her transformation, though? And that's why she was loyal to donkey, he loved her despite seeing her in her monster form.

At the end of the movie the dragon literally kills farquad at day though
Didn’t think I’d ever get a shrek lore video but here I am
Same 😂 the last reel I expected to pop up
You see the thing about Shrek is that he's an ogre, and an ogre is a lot like an onion. Just as there are many layers that make up an onion, there also many layers that make up the Shrek lore.
If Sherk 5 ever does happen, I really want them to explore this concept in the movie.
You really want them to tackle the topic of a human female sleeping with a Donkey?
While, this theory is interesting it’s going to be hard to do that without canceling out the concept that dragon is supposed to represent maleficent. They have all of the classic fairytale characters and their corresponding villains. peep the green eyes and if you’re really a movie head, go back and watch the films and look at sleeping beauties reaction the first time she sees dragon😂
@@katiebugg7018
Well Maleficent was herself a princess at one time. So who is to say that she gave up on love. Then in the Shrek tale, she finds true love. Even more fodder, the man hating Queen / Dragon, won over by the reformed bad boy. Now all we need is a cricket to seal the wicket.
I love sherk

Animators: *making a mistake and not being consistent with the character design*
This guy: “THE DRAGON IS A PRINCESS!!”
Shrek: Donkey it's a dragon.
Donkey: NO! She's a real human.
1 : the book do not say that she's cursed to be transformed into a dragon at night, it just says that she had an enchantment upon her and we see a dragon.
2 : we saw the dragon multiple time in daylight
3 : The next page of the book literaly says that she's locked away in a castle garded by a terrible dragon ! The other next page says that she waited in the dragon's keep !
And it's never sayd that knight only come at night.
The one who made this, skip multiple pagesof the book on purpose or only remember what he want for his narative that make no sense.
I agree. Massive, unbased facts. There’s no specifying what dragon, or really any other context about dragons in Shrek series that I can think of.
Lol! I thought it was just me. Haha

We see her during the day after we see her kiss her true love…Shrek’s butt!
Kidding.
That is why the dragon cried when donkey and Shrek escaped with the princess. She finally thought she found her true love to break her curse. 😱😱
🤯YO!
it wasn’t night time when shrek and donkey went to the castle. Otherwise fiona would have been an ogre when they showed up. His premise that the dragon was a princess who turned into a dragon at night would be invalid since the dragon was a dragon durning the day when they went to rescue fiona
Donke kissed her a lot of times
It means she accepted her dragon form like Fiona... 💀💀💀💀
I would do same lmao
Her curse is likely stuck since she missed her window to break it. That’s why she’s still a dragon even after getting with donkey…. Or maybe her true love needs to be a human which wouldn’t count because he still wouldn’t be her one true love after donkey
@@auburntigerzzher curse was stuck. There’s usually a timeline put on things like that. Whereas Fiona’s curse was more so a side deal between her dad and her fairy god mother to get her son married to Fiona by having him be the one to save her from the castle but that never happened.
Mfs overthinking Shrek Lore is hilarious 😂
Fiona was literally locked away when she was very young. 7 if you go by the musical, possibly younger just on the films. It makes sense from her parents that she would be blonde and not be specific about the curse since the whole point was hiding her till true loves kiss. That was kinda the whole point of the book in Shrek and became more specific in Shrek 2 when she was out and everyone knew about her.
That makes sense 😮😮😮 but then does Fiona know that she was living with another princess this whole time?!?!?!
Probably not
Makes a lot of sense. They're related due to having the same curse by the same person under the same society in the same castle.
She said, “When one lives alone, one has to learn these things”.
Either really hiding the truth or was completely oblivious.
Probably did
Both Baddies ❤
Also notice that the castle on the first page is the same one that Fiona was locked in. So it was most likely Princess 1's castle/kingdom that was quickly abandoned once she started becoming a dragon at night.
First off the first the book doesn't say that. And secondly, when he showed the dragon in this video it was daytime.
@@Grimjr7 And Fiona is now an ogre in daytime too.

Wow an entire hidden arc we never noticed
Fun fact: she is indeed a princess. Her name was Elizabeth
Really ?! Where can i get That knowledge from ?😮
Either that, or Donkey may have been referencing a recurring joke from an old sitcom called "Sanford & Son" where the character, Fred Sanford, dramatically fakes a heart attack and yells, "I'm coming Elizabeth!".
@@erculinal.60Not from a jedi
He mentioned that name as he was passing out from drinking the handsome potion.
@@johnathan9101 well it was a reference to Sanford and sons, but it could be even deeper now knowing this lol
And her and Donkey fell in love at night, which is why she is still a dragon at the end of the movie
And that beautiful blonde princess had adorable donkey dragon babies.
Love is magical.
So that's why Donkey's words got to her so easily.

"But that's just a theory!"
Interesting idea for a curse on a princess: turning into a dragon at Knights.
Not based on time or anything, just being near the kind of person normally employed as their personal guards, better soldiers, and lower political marriage options.
the writers didn't even know this
It happens a lot in films and particularly animated films.

Donkey was the true main character since he got with the true princess😮
Remember when donkey drank the potion so that means the dragon turned into the princess again
That's why they can have kids because technically they are both humans.
Donkey is, afaik, one of the kids in Pinocchio who got turned into a donkey
If you watch the opening scene you can definitely tell the blonde princess is depicting Fiona. It literally shows her laying in the bed while the big red dragon is on guard. The way someone is depicted in a book is not always historically accurate.
Facts, Its self explanatory
Plus shrek and donkey get to the castle in daylight and she’s already a dragon when she should be a princess…
But the castle scenario it's dark/night time so regardless it was an enchantment for her and Fiona as well
@@martincamacho6185 no it’s cloudy not nighttime… if you look past the clouds it’s clearly daytime…
Red hair wasn't always envied lol
Plus, history isn't always accurate. So, the difference between the two books could all be down to different authors or artists' interpretation.
I really need to rewatch shrek now lol
why is this mind blowing.. sounds just like the straight up story of the movie..
When Charming would show up Dragon would put up an act but ultimately let Charming "Slay Her", that way when Fairy Godmother broke the Curse on Dragon no one would ever suspect that She Was the Fearsome Dragon
Fairy Godmother (as she usually does when granting Wishes) probably threatened to never undo the Spell if someone else got to Fiona first, which is why Dragon is so distraught when Donkey finds her in the forest after the group initially breaks up after Shrek presents Fiona to Lord Farquad.
Also I think in the first Movie, Dragon & Donkey reunited during the day which puts a hole in my theory...
what about Shrek 4 they never explained what happened to charming

No one ever broke the curse, so she stays a dragon… Fiona chose to be an ogre but who knows that she had an actual choice

This actually makes sense. Donkey managed to woo her with praise and compliments and for the first time in her life, she met someone who saw her for more than just being a dragon. In that moment she felt like a princess who met her knight in shining armour. Something she's wanted to feel ever since she was cursed. Only issue here is that Fiona also transforms at night and yet she was in human form when Shrek and Donkey showed up to rescue her. So it was day-time when that portion of the movie happened and Dragon was still very much a dragon.
