This was some superb decision-making you showcased here! I especially loved how you described your reluctance to fly that departure "with people" if you weren't absolutely certain about the departure. Then you scouted it to ensure it was flyable. I hope your passengers appreciate how conscientious you are with their lives. Really great watching your airmanship here; thanks so much for posting1

I grew up in PNG as an MK and watching this 20, 25 years removed feels absolutely therapeutic. Also, i had so many questions and curiosities i never got to ask the pilots, and to get to hear the inner thoughts and decision processes like this is just immense to me. Thank you so much for doing this.

Brings back memories...I spent several days in Haia back in July 2004. I was on the first supply flight to land in three months due to weather. Hiked around with a local brother named Henry, went snake hunting, etc. One of the two elders gave me a couple spears, which I still have. Wish I could go back someday.

A fine demonstration of pilotage! Haia is a challenging place to land - it looks deceptively open on approach but the nearer and lower you get the harder it is to see the runway even on a clear day. That was really gripping watching as you tried different approaches - the successful line up the river may have been clear of low cloud but the ridge on the left and the hills on the right make it really quite claustrophobic. The speeded up return flight gave a good demonstration of how the clouds and weather vary so much in a short distance. Excellent video - thank you.

Thanks a lot for this video - absolutely great airmanship. As I told in some earlier comments, I'm only a Simpilot, but try to do it as real as it gets (Vatsim).
Yesterday I took of (x-plane) in EDDS Stuttgart Germany with an A340 loaded with 30to of virtual cargo and 15 "new pilots" for PNG heading 16h to AYPY Port Moresby - callsign ANG1603. Yes only 15 Pax cause of the MTOW and 159to of fuel needed for this trip.
ETA around 1215z in AYPY today. Hope I'll able to take some video of the arrival, but not shure, cause flying an A340 as a "single pilot" is a heavy workload to land it.
God bless you and always happy landings

Awe just came across your channel. My brother had accepted a job in PNG 10 years ago as a missionary pilot unfortunately while he was fire spotting in Alberta Canada his plane crashed...😞but I'm happy to see what conditions he would have been piloting in. He had done mountain flying in Venezuela prior to his passing but very similar conditions. I believe they also had put wing extensions on the plane there. Very challenging flying to say the least and all the best.

I've always wanted to be a pilot become across your channel really gives me the in-depth what it takes. I have all the mechanical and psychological abilities to fly, it's the instrumentation that terrifies me. My old school ability to calculate that's what allows me to be able to survive. But maybe that's why all the help through instrumentation keeps you alive, The only reason I say that because of the major failures on commercial airlines or terrifying to hear after the fact when the airplane landed and you can see the aftermath. But like water the air can be just as dangerous and you have to respect that. I think that's why I've become to enjoy your channel more than some form of pilot debrief. Now I can see why through strenuous regiment You have a better chance of success although I sometimes wonder relying on your equipment can sometimes be your detriment. This is where I lie when I trust of my equipment to a certain point, then I have to trust my instincts overall because I'm not going to let a machine dictate whether I'm going to survive.😊
