I'm so happy you posted this! I feel like Japanese and Korean culture is very prominent on RUclips, but it's rare to see a Chinese based beauty video. Thank you so much!
thank you to everyone who left me a comment! i can't respond to them all individually but i've read a lot of them and i feel very blessed to receive all your compliments. thank you for loving this look and for appreciating chinese culture ❤

Amazing, I really liked your video, you look very beautiful like a princess. I am interested in the foundation brand you use. I have so much acne. Thanks in advance
(sorry for my poor grammar) As a Chinese, I am so proud that there is youtuber promoting our traditional clothes Hanfu!! Most of the people think Qibao is the our ethnic clothing but forget Hanfu has a really long history and represent Han Chinese.
Lillie LU well, that's a myth that ancient chinese actually never cut their hair, supported with an ancient teaching 「 身體髮膚,受之父母,不敢毀傷,孝之始也。」,meaning as all your body parts are granted from your parents, you must not hurt them in order to accomplish filial piety. The ancient looks with fringes nowadays are created for better-looking, fringes appears at around qing dynasty, when western culture started to take part in styling
Lillie LU it's really hard to fully understand things in ancient time though it's interesting...... :) not trying to start a fight but according to my findings: To elaborate on both our understandings, the fringes are pulled out for better looking instead of being cutted off. If there's anyone good at chinese culture especially on ancient styling, I would appreciate your share of knowledge :) 若有不周,還望不吝賜教,共同促進文化發展
Omg. As a Chinese I'm so proud that you spread traditional Chinese culture to the world!!! Since most of Chinese users were blocked, videos about Chinese makeup and relative stuffs are so rare!! Please keep doing more like this. Love
***** I mean, chinese government blocked youtube and other websites like Facebook, twitter, etc. So people in china can't access to these websites. I think this is not news lol
+sabrina m what about taobao? there are some great stores, my chinese friend bought one from there. This type of dress called "ru qun(襦裙)", it's a kind of "hanfu(漢服)"
+sabrina m Try hanfugou, it's a website with all of the traditional hanfu makers from China registered and it will lead you directly to their Taobao's shop, you won't have to worry about buying low quality or inaccurate hanfu. However the website is in Chinese so if you really want to buy one, mostly custom made, you will need some help from any of your friends that can read and understand Chinese. www.hanfugou.com/
I really have to say that I am your fan after seeing this!! I am so touched. I am really touched! I almost want to cry! Because I came to US when I was young. Then I fell in love with all sorts of Chinese traditional things, especially the clothing, hanfu, which I think is much more Chinese and prettier than qipao. But it is so hard to buy them. I bought a duijin ruqun when I went back to China and wore it so many times for special school and cultural events in US. It is really heartbreaking that many people do not know about Chinese hanfu, but only kimono and hanbok; even Chinese people do not really know about them. You are the first Chinese American who I have ever seen to know and love the Chinese traditional fashion! Thank you so much! I ll support you with all my heart! Thank you so much~
This is really cool to see. There aren't many Chinese RUclipsrs in the beauty part of the site. Maybe I should try a traditional look from Mexico, though I would need to buy a wig because my hair is very short now.
Your dad looks so young LOL. But ooh, your family is cantonese? It's kind of pretty damn amazing to see a Chinese beauty-related video that incorporates the traditional Chinese history because usually it's always the Japanese or Korean pop culture that gets most of the glamorous attention. It's lovely to see some light being shed on our culture too!
Z Ang problem is that Taiwanese people are starting to seperate themselves from Chinese culture and claim no relation to China(American people believe this too!). Hong Kong culture is also rarely seen on youtube.
+Kaitlyn ♥ I totally understand ur point, as I am Taiwanese myself. However in my original comment I'm mostly referring to chinese-American youtubers. I am subscribed to a couple Chinese and Taiwanese beauty gurus, but rarely find them embracing their culture but (like Z Ang said) rather korean and Japanese cultures (or western lifestyle if they live in US) instead. And also, I know many Taiwanese people who still celebrate traditional chinese culture even if they (like me) identify as a separate nation. I'm sorry for any miscommunications, i was just really happy and inspired by how proud Mei shares her culture, unlike many other Asian-Americans I know. :)
The amount of negativity in the comments is absolutely appalling. Mei, I'm super happy to see videos about traditional Chinese culture/beauty, as I don't think it's as relevant in RUclips culture. It's totally awesome to find other people in the beauty world from the same culture as me!
You are amazing! 1.For being that confident showing yourself and not only with a tons of make-up on. 2. I love how you visualize something traditional and then there are your ear piercings 3. And last but not least The quality of your outfit & your make-up
i'm so happy that you're so self confident tbh ur gorgeous and self love is so hard ❤️❤️❤️ proud of you, friend! this is a gorgeous look too WOW chinese fashion is always so stunning
Hi Mei! This video was recommended to me via RUclips and I'm so glad I ended up watching it. You're gorgeous and this has really inspired me. I was born in Australia but I have always been fascinated with my Chinese culture, even if my Chinese is very poor LOL. Chinese culture is so beautiful and I hope it would be celebrated more!! I need to get back in touch with my Chinese side. Yay :)
You're so stunning mei! i agree that you should post more crafty tutorials, like one for how you went about making this dress. i also think it's lovely that you're incorporating your love for your culture into your beauty looks! Keep it up
I'm so glad your proud of your culture ! There are other you tubers on here who are total koreaboos and don't even mention their ethnicity and act and look Korean /:
Lol no she doesn't. She has 26 videos mentioning 'Korean' in the title. 6 mentioning 'Japanese' in the title. And 2 mentioning 'Chinese' in the title. She has barely even mentioned being Chinese.
+Genny Coup in QnA videos she talks about it, in her Draw My Life she talks about it, she speaks Chinese to her friends and family in literally almost every vlog she is with them...
OMG Please do more videos like this😍 I've been looking around in RUclips and can't find any until this one *throws confetti* I Reallyyyy love traditional Chinese look not to mention I myself are pure Chinese and this totally inspired me for my future photoshoot💖
this is so inspirational, you look so gorgeous (as always). Maybe one day when I learn about my heritage more ( and get good enough at make-up lol) I could get in touch with my African Heritage and be proud of it as much as you and make a video about it! keep it up, I love your videos
Hi mei!! Greeting from S. Korea!! I think maybe this is my 1st comment on your channel and I was really impressed. Ur dress n makeup is give some inspiration to me. Yeah, I m intersted in chinese culture n I enjoyed your video. (Ur dress is daaammmmmm-awesome!!!) U know, when you find some video about east-asian culture on youtube, you can find only about japanese, not chinese or korean. They are very rare. Unfortunatelyㅠㅠ I mean, when I saw ur video for the first rime, was so excited. Thanks for upload your video!
Thank you for this video. It's really nice to see Chinese wearing hanfu and getting in touch with their culture. I know some people will confuse this clothing with other clothing, but that makes this video that much more important.
I rarely comment on any videos because I'm very lazy but omg that eyeshadow and that dress!!! And you made that dress all by yourself??!!! Insane!!! U go girl!!!!
Thank you for posting this. You look stunning in traditional Chinese garments and it's amazing that you made that whole dress yourself! It's cute that your Dad got to cameo in a video and help with pronunciation. A video about the making of the dress would be amazing! I've always thought Chinese dresses were so beautiful
Liked the video before even watching it :) I've always wanted to watch a video like this because it's so rare so thx for making it! Also, you're so talented! I initially thought you bought your hanfu; it looks gorgeous :)))
Thank you so much for making this video! The visuals are amazing and you look so so good! Thanks for being who you are and sharing your beauty tips, cosplays, etc with us ☺️ I will always support you! 💕
Omg, you even did the flower painting! In what dynasty did it come up again..? I know that there has been a princess sleeping under a tree and when she woke up, a flower stuck to her head because it has fallen down and everyone envied her.... but I cannot remember the dynasty... anyway, that's a really beautiful-looking outfit, you absolutely look like a princess! And your father's accent is so cute, I can't *////*
+princessmei i really appreciate you not wanting to do korean looks!! also super pumped for a traditional chinese dress series, i love the vibes you put out and all your looks are gorgeous. the fact that you made this beautiful dress makes me want to go and make a hanbok since ive outgrown my old one heheh :D
This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your culture with us. I love the dress and makeup and loved how they looked with your blue hair down as well.
Oh my god, you are SO beautiful. So is this look. I've been fascinated by Chinese culture ever since I was young so I really appreciate this video. :) ♡
I never saw a soooooo pretty person with brown eyes before. Because the Most beautyfull persons that I know have all blue or Green eyes 😵😍 never was so proud of having Brown eyes 💕
i love this style of dress! its one of my all time favorites. Its so ethereal and flowy and pretty and ugh. You really did an amazing job making it, i love the color choices and pattern. Honestly just a beautiful beautiful dress. Love the make up look too, i heard that story about the princess before and i thought it was just so cute!
I'm so happy you posted this! I feel like Japanese and Korean culture is very prominent on RUclips, but it's rare to see a Chinese based beauty video. Thank you so much!
+Kat Uni thank you very much!! ❤️
+Kat Uni totally agreed!
+Kat Uni its cause chinese are blocked from youtube so people in china doesnt make tutorials here lol
+Kat Uni I agree! This video popped up in my newsfeed because I'm learning both Korean and Chinese, and I love this so much :D
+CanJiYongBeHotter everyone can use youtube in china via vpn

Ash Tang um i’m really late but your grammar is actually impeccable!! it’s great, better than mine, and i was raised in america lol
I'm also a chinese
Just would like to promote some little Chinese knowledge...All-up hairstyles are for those who are married and hair-downs are for unmarried girls
wow i never knew that! thanks for the knowledge :-) thats really interestinf
Joyce Shum yeah and extra info: married girls cuts their fringe off and unmarried would have a fringe :)
Chinese culture and style is so underrated compaired to Japanese and Korean. Everything is perfect, the look, the music, ugh ❤
Fucking Tóbí because the Manchus and communism ruined everything!
Fucking Tóbí OF COURSE NOT.
Uhh.... No boy, sorry.
Their cultures are all from China...
thats because the west have been trying to demonize China and also the fucking Manchu fucked up the Chinese culture
"I want people to look at me and be blinded by my radiance."
ahaha, same.
OMG..I love this look sooooooooo much. You are very pretty in traditional Chinese dress. OMG, it got me into making trandional chinese clothing...
+Yumi King OMG yUMI
oml hiiiiiiii
It's called hanfu or guzhuang and not a dress
Omg. As a Chinese I'm so proud that you spread traditional Chinese culture to the world!!! Since most of Chinese users were blocked, videos about Chinese makeup and relative stuffs are so rare!! Please keep doing more like this. Love

it's actually many chinese fashion RUclipsrs you, check out cosplay queen..
You look unreal! The Chinese dress you made is soooooo amazing. 😍
chinese culture is lit so amazing
especially the fashion part
mei, could you do a video on how you made the dress? it's gorgeous!
Yesss plz its gorgeous
Yess🔮
+书书 shushu I honestly don't suggest you guys buying it off of eBay or Any similar sites, the quality is HORRIBLE
+sabrina m what about taobao? there are some great stores, my chinese friend bought one from there. This type of dress called "ru qun(襦裙)", it's a kind of "hanfu(漢服)"

your dads hair looks very bouncy and voluminous pls tell him that
+Katie Le LMAO will do
😂😂😂
"Was I the one who cut this wig? Like what the fuck is this?" 😂😂😂💀
And also Asian culture is very beautiful 😊 the good parts
This style of dress is not from Han Dynasty. It's from later Tang Dynasty. Beautiful look though.
+Jinjing Liang omg my bad i meant to double check before i posted this video but i forgot !!! nice job me LMAO
Its more of an ethnicity thing than a dynasty thing. Hanfu means clothing of the han people, not han dynasty.
漢服refers to the traditional clothing of the Han “tribe” not the Han dynasty haha
I really have to say that I am your fan after seeing this!! I am so touched. I am really touched! I almost want to cry! Because I came to US when I was young. +skellingtonMCR bubzbeauty is chinese
+KettiexD I know, I'm subscribed to her. I said there aren't many, not that there's none at all.

lol I was like what I don't understand wait THATS CANTO lol I'm mandarin
Emily Ding LOL yeah I was confused too at first because the title used the mandarin pinyin so i expected her dad to say it in mandarin haha~
Gorgeous! Thank u so much for embracing being chinese, i feel there is a lack of chinese representation on youtube! love you so much mei💕💕
That's because China is communist and does not allow RUclips..
Z Ang not that many though, and not enough make a big impact on social culture in society. (especially youtube)
Z Ang problem is that Taiwanese people are starting to seperate themselves from Chinese culture and claim no relation to China(American people believe this too!). Hong Kong culture is also rarely seen on youtube.
