    Someone in the comments asked "Do you typically master your beats before the vocals are recorded?" Well... in today's world, the answer is Yes and No. But typically?... NO. You would never master a song before putting the vocals are on it, UNLESS... the beat was meant to be an instrumental that you plan to sell online, put on Soundcloud or whatever. Now in Bolo's case, as well as a lot of beatmakers, if he's trying to sell his "beat" to a potential rapper/singer client, then he wants that beat knocking and sounding as dope as possible! Hence mastering. Feel me? But keep in mind, and to be VERY honest... Landr is pretty much equivalent to Izotope's mastering software, except THEY do it for you. Basically, whether you send to Landr or use Izotope, based on the algorithms of your beat, it is then automatically assigned to specific genre sounding presets by this amazing technical mastering software that actually does it for you. Of course with Izotope there's more flexibility if you want.
    You see folks, Mastering is NOT the art it use to be. Back in the day (and I'm sure an OG like Bolo knows this lol) you use to have a lot of cats who made a damn good living just mastering! Guys like Toney Dorsey, Herb "Pump" Powers, etc (which I've hired many times back in da day). They would master your whole album in this fly-ass technically designed Mastering studio where ALL THEY DID was master music!! Not today bruh. Today you don't have to know sh*t about mastering. Simply just send to Landr... OR buy Izotope and do it yourself. with Izotope you can even pick a mastering preset template that's designed from these great mastering engineers (just like Waves do with signature plugins)... press a button, just like Bolo did...and "presto!" your sh*t is mastered. Yes... I've been in the game a loooong time lol. And trust me... you know some of my work. Anyways, I salute you, Bolo.... you a real one bruh. Love your channel.

      Yup, you're correct. Mastering is essential in the part of both lyrics and beat synced with enough headroom in the mixed vocals for it to breathe.

    I’m a singer, producer and engineer!!! I have been doing it for years!! My uncle is in the industry! He told me about these engineering programs!!! I have to say I’m impressed and I’m shocked!! On how good they are!! If you know anything about mixing and mastering it’s time consuming, tedious, and it can give you a head ache which is what your paying for the engineers pain killers lol 😂 because of the head ache that comes behind the mixing lol 😂 naw but I will say I am working on a huge project with multiple artists I met off an app! This is definitely a time cruncher!! The only thing I will say is mixing and mastering programs don’t make good music you do!! And do the best mixing as possible before uploading it in these programs!! 💪🏾✈️✈️🤙🏾

      @@3iiisopen Ayo another thing I recommend is only mixing for 15-20 minutes at a time. Literally. Set a timer. That way you won’t lose your perspective. I’m not exaggerating when I say this...I have probably in the 10,000 range of beats’ I killed losing my perspective cuz I’d mix for like 6 hours straight. Go and ghetto master that ish and I would lose my fuggin mind 😂. Fr tho. Tryna pass on some knowledge to everyone I can! Don’t give up. You keep going and eventually you’ll get a placement. Look at my dude WMS Tha Sultan. He helped me out on the future producer forum’s over a decade ago. Now half of griselda is his. I mean damn 1/2 of La Maquina is him. My guy Yakub got Lucky and his first beat he ever made smh is “2getha Baby” by Ghostface 😂. Lmk if y’all got other questions. I think what everyone is referring too is sorta the mix dry vocals to a mastered beat. That’s cool on RUclips and SoundCloud but, probably won’t cut it at the end of the day. Not always the case. Anyway peace love n pita bread🤙.

    • @discowolf25
      @discowolf25 3 года назад

      @CLEAN HEART ahhh word! Yeah. Mixing dry vocals over a mastered beat is tuff. I know it was like a SoundCloud trend but, doesn’t usually cut it. Sometimes it’s dope af tho. But, to get the cleanest mix- it’s easier in the mix. It’s gotta sit in the pocket. What plugins are y’all using?

      Most problems like that are from the gain staging being off on one of the tracks before it is sent to be mastered. Your friend was probably already good at gain staging so most of his stuff came back good. You do enough of them there will be some slip through.

    LANDR is good service . However most times the finish version of the mastered stereo file is mainly "Gained Staged". The signal exceeds +2 or +4 which presents issues for personal devices like Apple iPhones , or Car audio speakers which are coded for flat responses. I've found that records can be respected and appreciated more if the quality and transients are on board .

    If your goal is to get it to -0db then why not just do it yourself? Why pay money and leave head room that you can cover yourself? Maybe i'm missing something.

    The death of art. Call me old skool but we had DBX quantum with 100s of options back in the day when we mastered, or sent it to be mastered by someone who actually listened to the track. Same thing that happened to filmmaking they have LUTS that you buy and drop on your video. I promise you if you had normalized and add any random compression it would probably sound the same as that LANDR stuff. If you are comparing the nuance of mastered vs unmastered both must be at least at same level.

    now days we can just turn it down. to master. don't put a limiter on master chain.

    You ever heard about unity gain when comparing? And did you ever heard of kick and bass occupying the same freq spec? Lol 😂 that's not Mastering that's just a brickwall on a poor mix 💩.... Sorry to be that frank

      Yes I’ve heard of unity gain... however if it sounds good, it sounds good. I know plenty of real mastering engineers and I haven’t seen one use unity gain yet
