Hey! I'm Helena! :) I make videos on slow living in a way that isn't slow. I'm a passionate and curious soul from the United States but now living in the countryside of France. I create energizing videos about simplicity and joy, and how you can integrate a more simple, slow and playful lifestyle. By grounding ourselves and finding simple appreciations in the present moment, it is far easier to be more connected to life! We can just “be" and have so much more fun along the way. :) My goal is to uplift and inspire others to find simple joys in their everyday! I celebrate a non-achievement-chasing lifestyle, ie. your worth is not your work. In the busyness of our world, it is my hope to connect others who wish to find joy and fulfillment in simplicity...in a life that's not tied to striving and chasing after things outside of ourselves, but rather seeking joy from within. I dont know how I discovered your channel. I know I was attracted to the title Simple Joy. You reminded me of all the things I enjoyed when I was young and first married. My husband and I was happy with nothing. We married out of high school. We had no furniture but a bed and a table. Our song was WE GOT BY -Al Jarreau. We put each other thru college but the more degrees we obtain the more we grew apart. We divorce after 20 years of living apart. Now many years after a successful career as Nurse Practitioner, I am retired. I am able to slow it down. I can now return to enjoying the simple pleasure in life. No more working long hours and a day that started at 4 am. I was surprised how easily I could let go 42 years career but I have always wanted to slow it down . I was getting overwhelm. I was just beyond tired. The one saving factor was that I had always enjoyed my own company. I always needed time to alone just to give back to others. Now I can do things I never done before, like cook dinner, sit on my couch, or read a book. I can even wash and fold clothes in the same week. So retirement caused me to slow it down.
The one thing I admire the most about your generation is that work life balance matters ! Your generation is unlike the baby boomers who are workaholics. May you, Helena, continue to be inspiration to all young and old ! May you and your husband continue to enjoy the simple joys in life !

I have to say that when we had the lockdown back in March I was shocked and angry, wasn't used at all to something like that as nobody was I think, then I started to see the difference. The whole world slowed down, the air quality increased a lot, people seemed more relaxed (besides being terrified by Covid, I'm not I have to say) and Nature was taking a break from mankind's hectic and harmful activities...I really hope this is a new beginning made of compassion for all living creatures, empathy, generosity, deep spirituality, simplicity, slow living and anti consummerism which is killing our planet. Objects are just there to serve a practical purpose, not define who we are and where we belong. I dream of a new world where poverty doesn't exist anymore, and everyone has a peaceful, fulfilling life without wanting more and more all the time!

To improve air quality and allow mother earth to take a break is not necessary to stay alone among the walls of our houses. There was greed, envy and a cruel will of not allowing others to live, behind the confinements.
Hello Helena, I recently gave up a program at university that was not well suited for me and I only went into it for the money. I have been working on slowing down since the end of November and it has been wonderful for me. Thank you for these wonderful videos.

As is said, "You don't have to go searching for happiness when it can be found in your own backyard". I, too, live a quiet simple life by choice where I fill my days with joyful activities such as reading, gardening, strolling outside enjoying the seasons, petting my kitties, searching for beautiful vintage/antique pieces to add to my home decor, etc. Before I was diagnosed with a chronic illness, I had a very busy, stressful lifestyle (a big part of what brought about my illness) that's all too typical of many people today. At first it was a bit difficult to adjust to a quieter, slower pace of life, but now I couldn't imagine giving it up! I adore living in a rural area where I can experience the changing seasons and live closer to the Earth. Beautiful vlog full of so much Light and Truth ❤

You are good at this kind of video. Once again my heart sinks at each image. . If you only knew how much your words resonate with me. If you only knew how much all of my childhood memories come to the surface when I listen to you. Yes, as a child, that's how we lived in the country. Simply! We were content with what we had and the smallest thing was a real treasure because without it there was nothing. My parents didn't even have a car, we took the bus to the nearest town, and supermarkets didn't exist yet. With the help of our imagination, simple everyday objects turned into beautiful toys and the days with friends seemed endless. Life was much slower. The people were what they were, but I felt they were happier than they are today. But that was yesterday. I have always fought to keep this need to slow down and listen to myself. Be yourself against wind and tides. My dear Helena, if you can't stop time, you still have the right formula to slow it down and I'm glad this wave is finally coming back. "It's time to go home", thank you for this beautiful expression, it will become mine thanks to you.

Such a lovely video for this coming year. Wish I could believe you. Yes, there are many of us with those sentiments, but at least here, in the US, it seems there is still mostly a "me" over "we together" mentality. Hence the lack of wearing masks or distancing. The insistence that a haircut is more important than keeping others safe. It's discouraging but I guess we can only live our own lives, and not that of others. Thank you for your beautiful and inspiring work.
The best you can do is to live authentically YOU. Your can find peace in that. We cannot control others, only our own choices. Make the best choices for you. Wishing you peace 🕊️
2020 has taught me alot. I'm still trying to figure it all out but I know the purring of my cat , my favorite coffee and seeing joy in the little things has taught me that it's all I really need to be happy 💕🙂 My word for 2021 is" peace " that's what I want more of .
It’s not too late to start a slow living...back then i spent too much buying unnecessary jewelry,bags, clothes,etc...which i regret now..but i am not in this situation ryt now of I don’t experience those bad habits of mine.i spent all my money and left debt bcoz of bad habits :(

now I truly believe that nothing is without purpose, because I never would have appreciated these calm healing videos had I not suffered that trauma and I probably wouldn't switch up my channel to a more peaceful space.

Slow living verses deep living ,slowing down or going in-depth- - - ,fear of being active /an action figure poetic gardener, living in-depth is all speeds- fast slow a action figure willingness-lifting stones to heavy to lift and doing it anyway and not hurting yourself/that beautiful building didn't build its self that restful chair didn't make it here without that active poetic feeling that freed it into being , the poetic mien has saved way more people then slow living ever could- that active hands on healing that a skinny dutch teenager did with people and animals during the war because no other thing was available/digging up a field with a shovel to feed family during the war/creations first culture is all speeds with poetic understanding of how creation really works in and all around us!
Amen to a new way, to learn contentment and peace by just being with ourselves in stillness 🙏🏾

New Sub here! I just watched your video 'The Secret of Living well--How the French Live Slowly' which led me to this one. Slow living IS the new way of life. Your story resonates with me. I am a veteran teacher who gave myself permission to move from the US to Mexico last year to take it SLOW and live intentionally. I have embraced a slower pace which has allowed me to work from home. By embracing a slower pace I have decreased the stress and increased my sense of wellbeing. Slowing down has afforded me more time for sipping coffee at local cafes, more time for people watching, more time for taking long walks in nature. Like you said, the pandemic has taught us to slow down and listen to what we need and we are finding that we have all we need at home. I appreciate how you communicate this New way of life and I'm looking forward to your future videos! C'est la vie!
You have such an amazing way with words. I'm very happy at home now (in fact I rarely leave it) but there was a time I wasn't and I was continually out of the home - usually shopping and buying "stuff" I didn't need.
