Cool i'm in California right now and will be moving to Ohio. I just noticed your undercarriage was pretty rust free, how do you keep it like that?
Mostly luck! The car is from California and has only seen 3 winters... in the last 5 years and I get the underbody and inside the doors sprayed at Krown Rust Control every year.

Hey, thanks for this vid. I see by the end of your install it had gotten dark. Approximately how many hours did it take to install. My STILLEN for my G37 just arrived today. Gauging whether do it myself or use a shop. Only concern of doing it on my own is getting the old bolts loosened. Thanks.

When I did it, a lot of time was spent positioning cameras and lights, as well as replacing and recharging batteries.
To remove the factory exhaust and install the Stillen cat-back with the car on jack stands I would guess about 2-4 hours depending how rusted the exhaust bolts are. If you don't have an impact wrench, I think it would be best to take it to a shop.
I would also suggest you keep the factory exhaust. If/when you sell the car, you can swap the exhaust and sell the Stillen exhaust for a little extra spending money :)

So doing the job today! Just got off the stock pipes. Did you torque the hardware to a specific value to just good and super tight?

To prevent future problems, always torque to the spec in the manual.
From my experience, "super tight" usually means stretched bolts and stripped threads when you need to remove them.
If you need a factory shop manual just google "nico club G37 fsm"

Great video. I will be doing this to mine soon. What size sockets did you need for this job? Do you think they can be removed easily by hand without an impact gun? I have a 2013 G!

Thanks for your kind words.
If I remember correctly (this video was shot in July of 2016) most of the nuts/bolts were 12mm or 14mm.
Can they removed by hand? The most difficult is the 2 nuts on the output of the converter / start of the Y-pipe.
I think you may be OK with hand tools BUT soak those nuts & studs with a penetrating oil for about a day. As you loosen the bolt and it starts to give more resistance, try to tighten it a little. As the rust is removed from the stud, it fills the space between the stud and nut and creates a lit of friction. By going back and forth, it allows the rust particles to fall away and you will feel the nut free up a little. Also, as you are loosening the nut, keep adding penetrating oil.
The goal is not to break the stud. Once you get some movement on the nut, keep loosening and tightening until the nut is off.

I received my shipment much quicker than expected! I forgot to ask, did you keep your stock exhaust or did you recycle/ sell it? I am still debating on what to do with my stock once I remove it. I am not sure if it is worth the pain of shipping elsewhere to sell it or if it's a good idea to recycle it.

I always keep the stock parts! If I sell the car, I put the stock parts back on and sell the aftermarket separately.
This gives you a better chance of getting some of your money back.
My stock exhaust has been sprayed with oil and is hanging up in my garage, just in case :)
I just got this exhaust and was wondering is it better for someone that knows what they’re doing to install it for you or can you do it yourself I’m not a car expert but I do know somewhat about cars

If you haven't done a lot of work on your car, I think it would be a good idea to have someone install it for you. Often special tools are required to remove the rusty exhaust fasteners.
BUT if you have a good set of sockets, wrenches, long screw drivers, axle stands, a jack and a solid surface to raise up the car it is do-able. (but wear eye protection to keep sand, rust, etc out of your eyes. It is a little bit of a tricky job.
Hi, I got quoted 1699 US dollars for install ? Too expensive?
I really don't know... since I do my own work, I've never taken my car to a shop and so I have no idea of the going rate.
Maybe others can give you an idea...

The Stillen exhaust is a little heavier, maybe 10-15 pounds as a guess.
Since the Stillen exhaust tubing is larger in diameter, has solid muffler hangers and doesn't use thin metal for the mufflers.
Also, the factory muffler are VERY light!
Have you experienced any rattling noise? Many G owners, myself included, have an issue where there's rattling noise or something and many suggest it's the cats. Any idea?

The exhaust was installed about 3.5 years ago and it hasn't rattled or made any noise it shouldn't.
If you have a manual transmission, the rattle you hear is most likely the dual mass flywheel. As the mileage goes up, there is a little more play in the bearing bearing between each flywheel section (dual mass has 2 "masses" separated by a bearing). It sounds bad, but it doesn't hurt anything.
It is possible for a catalytic converter to crack and rattle, but usually not on a stock tune as additional fuel is added to reduce the catalytic converter temperatures. (That's why the stock fueling is rich under wide open throttle)
It could also be a heat shield rattling.
To find out, get under the car (using a hoist or jack stands) with the engine running and see where the sound is coming from.

(Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this!) Yes I do... BUT with good winter tires (I like the Michelin X-ice X3's) the grip is amazing compared to so called "all seasons" tires.
Question, i own a 07 G35S sedan. Want to know if a Stillen G37 sedan exhaust will fit my car? Any additional parts needed?

In looking at the Stillen.com site, the G35 sedan uses a
different exhaust (part number: 504375) than the G37 sedan (part number
504377), so I don't think the G37 exhaust will fit your G35. :(
But you could buy the Stillen exhaust for the G35 :)
Motorvate DIY, i know how you were saying the exhaust had different part numbers. I tried it anyway and the exhaust fit without any troubles. Everything is the same for the 2 cars. Thank you

Just the Stillen cat back and K&N drop in filters.
I don't want to lower it, as it makes it more difficult to drive in the snow and I don't feel the need for more power, so it will stay like it is :)
How much would this cost at a mechanic ?
I have no idea, as I always do my own work.
How did you get the y pipe to fit the catalytic converters
The flanges are too wide for the cats
Maybe Stillen changed something...
From what I remember (6 years ago!) it fit without any problems.
@@MotorvateDIY I fortunately go it to work, but I will be changing my stock cats for better fitment (and they’re really rusty).

Yes... The hardest part of exhaust work is removing rusted bolts/nuts. Once everything if off, it is quick and easy to put the new one on :)
any time back pressure is reduced! there gains in the entire rpm range !
Yup! and when you can reduce back pressure and get a nice growl when accelerating it's even better!
How did you avoid rust under your g ?

Well.... the car was in California for the first two years, then imported to Ontario (Canada)
From 2015 on it is oil sprayed by Krown every year. (in the doors, hood, trunk and under body)
PLUS, it doesn't get driven very much in the winter.
You got me thinking, maybe it is time for a follow up video now that the exhaust has been on for 3 years.

The mid brace is bolted on and has a lot of clearance between it and the exhaust.
Sorry for not showing that in the video, I must of missed that step.
