“Rippy” Duppstadt still paints a lot of my Basses!! We have 2 new/ old ones out on the road with us…That Gtr brings up a lot of memories man!! He loved the neck on that dude…RB’23 Thx for sharing!!
Thank you Rex! I knew he recently painted one of your Spector basses that you used on the headliner and Metallica tours this year, but I left that note out of the video. Should have put it in! I'd love to see the original in person one day. Thank you again for the kind words and inspiration through the years, Rex!
Rex! Wild seeing you comment on these vids i love it, Grady told me Dime thought this guitar was very heavy due to the paint Ric used. Also please hit up Vancouver BC Canada with Pantera again one day! 🤘🏻 Long live the kings
I was in the video of Psycho Holiday, at that magic dudes club. That's something i will never forget, people just don't know. Everything is a little fuzzy and I remember talking to you and Dime. I'm thinking that's the same guitar.
Good review video man. The original was sanded down. This was one of the early guitars painted for Darrell and at all for me. I started painting his guitars because he was a friend (I knew nothing about guitars). I body worked and painted it like I would motorcycle parts or helmets (which is what I was painting at the time). I reshaped the neck for him. The excess weight was from bondo and primer on the neck repair, white, then neon red and yellow paint on entire guitar. Then the concrete effect was really thick back then and a ton of clear to get it smooth. We learned a lot on that one and got progressively better over time. There should be a Dean Zelinsky vid coming soon where we discussed all of this in more detail.
Thanks so much for the comment, Ric! It means a lot to us that you've given us this insight to the build and paint process of the sledge! Had no idea Bondo was used on the neck repair. I can only imagine how much paint, primer, and gloss were used on the original to make the finish come to life. I ran into Dean Z at NAMM and I believe he mentioned that as well. Looking forward to hearing that conversation!
Right on brother, thanks for keeping Dime alive with your collection and videos! I'm a huge Dime fan (saw Pantera every time they came to Northern California starting with the Skidrow and Suicidal shows) and never missed them. I build custom guitars and am currently building a batch of Dime tribute guitars, was definitely thinking about building a version of this guitar for sure! Keep ripping big dog you sound great!
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words! You're very lucky to have seen the original line up in the 90s! I would have loved to be at one of those shows. Would love to see your guitars! 🤘
This is in my top 3 Dimebag guitars, along with The Dean From Hell and the Washburn Dime 3ST (black with silver bevels). That reverse headstock on the original 👌
wen i was a 16yr old ide skip school and hit up all the guitar shops and try out guitars and amps and i spent a day comparing Jackson Kelly a washburn dime slime and an 80s Gibson explorer and i fell in love with the dime slime. it was set up perfectly and played like a dream so was the Jackson but if ide have had the money ide have gone home with the dime slime. by the time i was actually looking to acquire one it was to late because of stupid collectors the prices wer stupid. so i decided to just make one at home. im still not finished because quality hardware is expensive and so is the nitro lacquer so it may never get finished. on a brighter note i found a dean flying v at a lil shop in town for 80$ it even came with a sd sh6 in the bridge and was also set up to play, after i fixed the neck-truss rod witch had hung up making the neck twist but i fixed it bu simply relaxing the neck and then er adjusting the relief it was a huge win!
Love the Concrete Sledge ML but how hard would’ve been for Dean to put the correct Dimebag Headstock on the Made in the USA ones? I mean I get it on the imports but the USA one could’ve been correct to Dime’s actual guitar, still a awesome guitar and it would be a tough choice between a Sledge and a Slime if I had the opportunity. I didn’t know that it was a Frankenstein job with a Washburn neck , so I guess it makes a little more sense that Dean used their current headstock design, still a reverse Dean MD style headstock. I wonder if the Washburn neck came out of one of the Washburn prototypes they made him, several companies made him ML shaped prototypes and I can seem to remember a Washburn ML that Grady was showing that had 6 inline headstock on it. The original neck must’ve been completely wrecked as many times as Grady fixed the Dean From Hell’s Headstock. I completely agree they should’ve went with the Washburn headstock at least on the 25 USA guitars. I’ve always thought the modern Dean 6 inline headstock looks a little too much like a generic Ibanez knock off but it’s actually a well designed headstock with a straight string pull. By the way I had about a 2010 Dave Mustaine VMNT import made around 2010 and it was an amazing guitar as with the rest of the Dean Imports of the era.
I play bass not guitar, but I have always been a fan of Vs. The ML is like a V mixed with an explorer. Either that or because Dimebag played them I have a spot for them. Dean's headstock on the Vengeance is the best headstock for a V I have seen. Now I typed all that to type this, I think that is the best-looking ML overall I have seen, the headstock looks so good on it.
Reverse inline headstock really looks awesome on this eh? I'd like an ML with those specs one day. The vengeance is just a rebranded VMNT, which is sweet to see that shape still around.
first time i ever seen a guitar strung that way balls on the keys lol i always cut them off .that end went into fr..i thought it was cool i enjoyed your video
Bro, please make a video going over it, I'm dying to see how the Chinese copies of the sledge look. I want to see if they match up to the deans or the original.
The one that's in the most demand for is the lightning bolt with the kiss band logo on it but they all are pretty nice. Dean and Washburn guitars are great guitar's at least all the "dime" edition guitar's. Hey good playing dude that sounds a lot like how dime played it. They don't really do much hand airbrush painting anymore on guitars not in the factory anyways.
Hey new subscriber here! Not sure if you've covered them at all on your page. Some people consider what I'm about to ask sacrilege but I'll probably never afford a real Washburn D3 or 333. I'm curious what your opinion if any is on the quality and appearance of the AliExpress/DHGate "Replica" dime guitars? I really really want a dimebolt Washburn but I just can't see myself investing 5000+ US on a Korean 333. That's a lot of cash for something I actually want to play. Thanks in advance for any info.
I haven't played a DHG or AliExpress replica so I don't have a comment. Hunt the used market, since you can find deals here and there for the current Dean and Washburn Dimebag guitars. I bet the new line from Dean Zelinski will come with an import line, so wait for that if you want a brand new Dimebag guitar and are on a budget.
@@EricMorettin I already been on this deep dive a couple years ago, I swear I want to say it was like a black Roads style V. I can't remember the model name. But it's absolutely the Washburn like you're saying

That's a great top 3 list! You also can't beat the original reverse headstock 🤘
Dimes Washburn Culprit was pretty awesome. I wish I could have bought one back when they came out. This one was pretty amazing also.
The culprit is one of my favorite Dimebag guitar shapes of all time.
The slime Washburn needs to find it's way over here.

I always thought that the Concrete Sledge ML had a Jackson neck because of the inlays. Such a cool piece, Thanks for sharing.
I'm not convinced it wasn't a Jackson neck.
nice zakk wylde pick scrape.
SO fucking sick man, so rare to see a video of this level on these. Thank you!

Awesome video bro, this guitar is so iconic yet, there are so little videos about it
Thanks! I really wanted to highlight it, especially the origin story and donor neck.
Great job. Love your videos and stories about Pantera and dime. Got my first set of wings today. 2007 Dean ML.

im getting a chinese primal guitar and swapping its pickups, bridge tuners and locking nut cant wait to get that bad boy nd show off

It’s a Dime Slime ML and a black and red Schenker V.
Washburn is the best headstock option.

Dime recorded and played this in Drop D
