  • The riseball is a surprising pitch that defies gravity by breaking upward. To get this movement, your snap is the most important part of the pitch.
For a strong riseball snap, you will release the ball low at your hips. Your wrist movement should feel as though you are scooping dirt off the ground or turning a doorknob. Be sure to get fully around and underneath the ball.
While gripping the riseball, you can choose to use either a four-seam or two-seam grip. Different pitchers have different preferences. Some pitchers may also choose to tuck a finger on this grip.
