knowing sai personally, he left the community for a while, and I know his side of the story entirely and him getting shunned was done out of envy, i wont get into specifics but yeah.
like i said, i had nothing but positive experiences with him so thats why i gave him the respect of not even covering the details because it's all "he said, she said" drama, but the amount of pressure i get behind the scenes about his characters is ridiculous. im just ready to move on. so this is my PSA that im putting the character to rest.
I feel bad for you, You honestly shouldn’t be harassed for enjoying a character. Enjoy who you enjoy- but apparently the RoA modding community disagrees which is just a shitty thing. I’m sorry you had to deal with this. Personally, i dont give a shit if the person who made these characters have “allegedly” done bad things, I still enjoy playing the characters they made like Reisen Fumo. But either way, very sorry you had to deal with this
Heyyo! Just wanna mention real quick that there's a LOT more than simple envy that got them shunned from the Workshop community. What got them permanently banned is something I don't want to discuss at all here, which makes up the majority of the controversy, but they've also been temporarily banned on a couple occasions for shadowbuffing their own characters before brackets and implementing cheat codes onto their characters that let them auto-parry attacks (and even winning a low-stakes weekly with it). There's just a lot of shaky history with Sai when it comes to the niche competitive scene Workshop has (which Sai was pretty heavily involved in), and considering the chances they were given prior, it's pretty understandable that they got permanently kicked the third time around.
I absolutely respect Sai as a creator, even if I wasn't the biggest fan of fighting their characters. They made a lot of incredible works and earned the title of "Best Workshop Developer" at one point for a reason - it's just a damn shame that things ended up the way they did I guess. Hope they're doing well in other communities ^^
@@Wattmelon Well- for one thing he did apologize for all the cheating he did, I don’t remember if he tried to do something to redeem himself for it or what but apparently it was good enough for him to come back. And also in case your curious, He’s doing good. he moved on from modding in rivals and doing something different. don’t really want to specify anything more tho cuz i worry I’ll have him get potentially harassed again. just yeah- know he’s moved on to something else and he’s doing alright. And in any case, My point still stands: “hate the person, not the creation” because what if somebody doesnt even CARE that the person who created a fun character ended up being a shit person, I mean cmon, I could think of good examples for this.

@@sircombat3259 They might've apologized, but actions tend to speak louder than words, and they didn't really change much after they were unbanned from what I remember? Also they were temporarily banned to begin with, so them coming back was out of principle, and not really because they apologized lol. Also also ik they're in the YOMI Hustle community and doing pretty well, which is nice to see ^^
If you still wanna play with their characters, nothing's stopping you! Sai has made some incredible works, and I totally get separating art from artist if you like the characters that much - bringing up controversy like this is just important to inform people that aren't aware of such. Plus in Linklight's case, avoiding presenting controversial topics/people and addressing such is likely the best thing he can do for his channel.

Sai's Chara is the one of the characters what was bringing people to this game as sans, Frisk, Kris, ralsei and etc. and because of some "kind" people it's being canceled..
Sai is good person and good creator, with his own style, but because of this "kind authors" what was on purpose digging the deep of the someone's trash bin (like with OMOCAT) now Sai being outcasted, with no chance of coming back.

Honestly, the fact that Chara absorbed Frisk's genocide level says a lot of how much hate and rage Chara has truly taken in. I mean how would you feel watching someone you thought you can trust to hurt all your friends and you can't do anything to stop them? He is kinda not making Rivals characters anymore and moved on to Yomi Hustle. He stated that him making Rivals characters will be kinda rare. But, he said bug fixes or balance changes for his characters will be carried out. (I’m talking abt Sai, idk abt the other devs)

I don't know how workshop usually works when it comes to Sprite art, but yeah, the legs need work. Overall pretty good..
new chara is still in dev so the legs are probably placeholders for the shadows (as you can see one leg is darker than the other)

Sai seemed to be mad because people were playing the game how they liked to play the game. If that includes playing a silly character then what's the harm? It's been nearly a year since all of this flow of lies started to appear out of nowhere..
I did leaved the community.
Turns out if you communicating with somebody... somebody digs up in your personal life... And then completely breaks your carrier of the developer, trying to completely erase memory about you from there Just for no reason, just to do the smug face behind the screen and say: "ha look, I DID it!, he got canceled by Me! he even leaved his social medias!"
commiting a cruelest execution named Damnatio memoriae to somebody who don't even understand why did it just happened , is a not good practice for a good community.
I still hope Sai will come back after someday after those bored and cruel people will get bored from the rivals of aether. and he will continue his work under masterpieces.
It just views to us real problem. problem of not only this one, but every community. the poison named: deaf, jealous, stupid people.

Honestly the whole NSFWing underage character I don't know if they actually did it or were talking about the poses. And if they did make inappropriate artwork of was the artwork aged up most people do that and shor it's weird but that one wouldn't be NSFW of a underage character and I love their Chara design honestly ( slay ) but still I need to look into this but I can't find anything about it and if it's about the pose then I'll call BS... Even though it kind of makes me a bit uncomfortable if I'm honest

@@gabrote42 A lot of what goes on in the competitive Workshop community isn't super talked about tbf (not a lot of people even know about it to begin with cuz it's that niche lol).
I wasn't around for the shadowbuff stuff, but the cheat code thing was something on Chara, Gigachad, Melee Sai, and a couple other characters that made it so when a hitbox got close to you while not attacking, you'd gain a few frames of invincibility and auto-parry. They used it in tournament one time before some TO's sussed it out and dug into the code (they were standing still a lot and parrying super consistently in poor connections), which lead to a temporary ban on having their characters in tournaments, as well as a permanent ban on competing.
so what im hearing is i can't use my main anymore which makes me sad but ill get over it

Even if you didn't go into any depth on the whole Sai controversy, I think it's pretty great that you brought it up regardless ^^. Not a lot of people are aware that that even exists outside of the niche competitive side of the community Sai was heavily involved in, so bringing some attention to it to a wider audience feels like the right play imo.

I always thought Chara was named Chara because it’s a name……………because it is, I heard it was from Irish origin, my dad knows the ancient Irish language better than anyone I know, so I asked how you would pronounce it in the rules of that language, and he said it was pronounced as K-are-uh, so that, combined with the fact that I know a Cara that, for clarification, is pronounced K-air-uh, whenever I hear people pronounce the name Chara the same way as Cara, I WAS SO, *TRIGGERED* . But you saying that Toby confirmed that it’s literally just Character shortened, that made me realize that I wrong to think that Toby would think so simply. So yeah…… there’s my rant.

Further supporting the fact that you're right about Chara's name is the fact that it's written as "Kyara" in Japanese, which lines up with how "character" is written in Japanese. They both start with "kyara". Plus that's just a name that exists in real life & is well known by everyone.
People are going out of their way to be wrong just like when they claim Omega Flowey is the official name for Photoshop Flowey even though the game disagrees or when they say you have to do two runs of Undertale to get the pacifist ending even though you don't.
