I was surprised you didn't check the traces first BUT from the progress you made while reflowing joints, it's clear they needed it, and you have a much happier cart as a result. This was a very satisfying repair~

I gave it a very quick glance and nothing jumped out lol. Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Arise 2 year old comment!! I was thinking the same thing, check traces first, then worry about soldering. *edit. Just realized that by re re-soldering the game now boots but didn't load. or visa versa.

I just got a Fire Emblem cartridge with the same problem. I have zero soldering experience and it seems like I may need to learn the craft. This was a good video to get me acquainted with some components.

Hey there! Im new to soldering and fixing old gameboys etc, I mostly do very very basic upgrade work. I had a question, what tempreature should I be using? Sometimes I think I burn and damage the circuit. Also, if I wanted to reflow a circuit, do I just use hotair from a heatgun? Thanks mate! Love the channel!

it's satisfying to see the whole desolder / resolder process, making all the old oxidized stuff new and shiny again!
what wattage (or temperature) is the soldering iron running at to avoid burning up the older and more delicate circuitry?
also, what kind of flux do you use for the desoldering?

Nice fix! I am not familiar enough with hardware to fully understand how that beeping works. Does it only beep if there is a complete circuit, thus when you didn't get a beep you knew the traces were the issue?

      Correct. It's called 'continuity testing'

Excellent repair!! I have a quick question. What are you using to scrape the solder mask away? I tend to use a pair of tweezers and that doesn't look as nice 🐺

The second pin near “2002” on my sapphire won’t beep, so am I supposed to put soldier on that same hole you soldiered? Or is there a specific one?

I think that might be the issue with my friend's copy of Emerald. I wish I knew someone close to me to repair em

I have a solder gun and solder. Have two pokemom games that need to be fixed, Sapphire, it will boot up and then go white screen. Was told a new battery would fix that, now I'm seeing other wise. Emerald hasn't came in for me to check it out yet.

Question, why did that joint die, does it happen on its own? It was covered so I assume it was not a drop of water or anything

It's possible too see light blueish goo on one of the side of the via. Cart has probably seen some moisture.

As mentioned by Wixx, it appeared to be a small amount of moisture.

Wow the algorithm just brought this up for me. I just bought a copy of pokemon ruby and a ds lite from a gamestore recently, amd im having the same problem. Im grtting the white screen but also a weird static noise that keeps going off i dont know how to explain it. I actually have bee able to get it to turn on and start, but with much difficulty. I have to keep putting the cart in and taking it out but i started noticing that it doesnt really dock into the ds all the way at first, it sort of sticks on one side, so i tried carefully putting the cart in a couple different ways and finally got it to start, but if i accidentally nedge the cart while playing it crashes out. But Im currently 3 badges in and just reached fallarbor town, if im remembering the name correctly, so i guess im good for now. I was never sure if it was the ds or the game but this confirms that its the game for me.

Hi! I l'm looking for some answers to fix my Emerald version cuz it's giving me the same headacke: the game won't boot, but the difference is that my cartidge has some white stuff inside and looks that something's missing jajaja. I'm not quite familiar with this level of reppairs (I have done some very basic in 3DS consoles) but I hope by watching more videos I can get the solution.
    Very nice work!!!
