Nice review mate! I think the SRP777 is the true successor to the Cpt. Willard: By ditching the “Jewelry” and “Limited Edition” aspect, Seiko was able to produce a tool that gets the job done - just like the original. Not more or less. If only they were able to align those damn bezels and set the hands right..
very well said. The 777 is a direct descendant of the Willard for sure. And yes those damn bezel, chapter ring and dial alignment issues....if only..cheers
I also don't find the 777's accuracy to be good enough, I'd love to see a better movement in the 777 along with a better bezel action, with sapphire crystal and I don't mind paying double. I've seen in some of the other videos of the SPB153 whose bezel still has a very little back play which is entirely unacceptable at this price.
@@PeterKotsa Well, I have four 6309 Turtles and three 4R36 New Turtles. I love them all!!! But they're not to be compared to the 6105s... Seiko has some people there with mental problems, that's for sure!! If you want to re-issue a model, just copy the damn thing!! Why re-imagine a watch? You can use different versions (colors) and newer materials, like it was done with the New Turtle. But I still think they should have designed day/date wheels that would keep the crown at exactly 4 o'clock. I know they can do it!! Why didn't they?? Because the 4R36 movements were already there... So, let's just build a case with a 3:45 crown position around that movement... But that's minimum.... About the 6105 editions.... First, the SLA033: I would never pay $4k - $5k on a watch like that. First of all, I wear all my watches... And I wouldn't wanna bang that watch against some door handle, or somewhere on my motorcycle, or any metal or stone object.... Now... The newer SPB15X: Why build it the size of an SKX?? That was a deal breaker for me!! And at US$1000, that's not something I would ever consider buying. So, both these reissues were a miss for Seiko, in my opinion.... I'll stick to my Turtles, Tunas, Frankenmonsters and Arnies, until I find an original 6105 in good condition that I can afford, and that I will wear as much as the others.
@@varunu4176 Well, I don't mind the different accuracy I get from one New Turtle to the others, or any other Seiko I've got. Since most are automatic, and I have many, when I put one on the wrist, I'll have to set it. If I'm in a hurry, I'll just slap one of my Arnies on, and get going. They're accurate!! Well, pretty much... Once I set them to the exact second, and now they're a bit off. I guess I could regulate my Arnies... But... Fuck it!! I'm not that picky!! About the automatic ones, I don't really care. Not even a $15K Rolex is perfect, and I'm not timing any race, so, a few seconds until I get home and take any watch off, is something unnoticeable!! And I don't even set the watches to the exact second, anyway!! So, why bother?
@@markperroni69 I don't baby my Turtle, the knocks might definitely affect its accuracy, more robustly built movement might take the shocks better. Mine runs 15mins off in a week which is pretty bad. Maybe I shouldn't have a mechanical piece as a beater watch.
Just got the green Willard. I have to say that you need to check it out in person. It is stunning. I got it second hand for 900 usd. I have had the first gen mm200, blue and green alpinist, GS, Aqua Terra, Speedmaster Reduced, coctail time, sarx033, spb053 and so on, and I have to say at 900 this is just amazing. The pictures don't do it justice at all. The domed Sapphire is just marvellous and the finishing on indecies and hands is great. Might be my favourite watch so far. It is not a true copy of the original. Only a modernized version you might say. The size is dreamy compared to most Seiko divers these days. Was planning to check it out and flip, but this is a keeper.
Peter at last a genuine review of this watch that draws out some of the negatives. So many reviews have missed the slight nuances to the design and have plain ignored the question of pricing. I was excited by this watch until I saw the price. It really is a slightly redesigned turtle. Even accounting for the different movement I still can't understand the pricing.
Well said, its a simple money grab from the ignorant...Seiko is playing a silly game here (and I love Seiko watches..but this thing is more than a little bit of a let down to me) Thanks again Peter
Seiko would have you believe that now it’s a ‘luxury sports watch’...I mean they did put Zaratsu polishing on it!!!🧐 One miss after another… One money grab after another...One limited release only to be followed by an unlimited release after another...My once-favourite brand Stinks now.
Hey Peter, I picked up the SBDC143 Willard 3 months ago and all I can say is that it is an absolutely beautiful watch. I haven't owned either the 6105 or the SLA033, but the 143 is definitely a great piece. These Prospex Willards are definitely worth a try.
EXCELLENT review! I truly appreciate you going into hands-on verifiable details instead of only subjective analysis. Superimposing made it so much easier to asses, good job👍. /subbed
151 is close reinterpretation, that betters the original in every aspect except the crown and the markers. The 3 needles are just beautiful. 033 would also benefit with those needles
Thanks for the in depth assessment and observations. I've been to a local dealer to check out both the SPB151 and SPB143J1 and was prepared to walk given the opinions which had struck a chord with me; after putting on both I walked out with the SPB151. It wears great on my 7" wrist, and my example has no alignment issues, just good quality made in Japan. As for price and comparing to Swiss product, e.g. Oris divers 65 - the Oris will still cost more, great quality, but the movement isn't in house. I decided on the Seiko over a copage, and feel in years to come once the price is forgotten I'll be happy with this Seiko.
Wearing SPB153 for less than a week. Also wearing Turtle PADI. Seeing the comparison between the 3 watches was fascinating. For a small wrist 6.5 the Willard is light and slim and I like that. Your review was spot on. I expect to make the Willard my daily it is so put together in it's own way. The brushed finish is worth the price. A video can't capture the tonal quality that is experienced on the wrist. Bought for $950 US
Hi Matthew, yeah Is aw that, I must say the colour of the dial looks really nice, as does the bezel, however I am still unsure of the case proportions or luted markers. In saying that it does look like a nice piece indeed. cheers Peter
I also think that the spb153 looks incredible - at first i was very sceptical and reluctant. But i think it is a good point that there are so many black dial divers so that the green colour is something interesting new
You nailed it ... I was anticipating the SPB release since the rumors of an “affordable Willard” came out ... and this really fell flat for me for all the reasons you mentioned Plus other reviews show QC issues with the watch and that’s just sad ESPECIALLY at that price ... Why Seiko???
At last ... objective comments. Thanks for the great video, Peter. I agree with the comments below that the Turtle better represents the true lineage of the original Willard. As you have indicated, the new SPB151 seems like a successor to the SKX.
Thanks Eddie, the turtle is historically as we know directly related to the Willard. Looking closely at these 151's I think they are more of a stand alone watch with design hues bored forma few different models fo Seiko's past. Thanks for sharing , cheers
EGads, it's a good thing I'm old,... I bought my SPB153... can't tell the difference. Thanks for all the info, I was looking at the SPB317... but, the 153 fits my arm, and niche just fine.
Got a SPB a year ago after watching this & thought I'd update on long term ownership. It's been faultless, love it + gets more wrist time than my Omega's. Dislike the date, ( hate that pointless complication on anything) but it's small enough to look like an index and ignore it. Lume is typically Seiko, not as strong as my mm200. Accuracy isn't fantastic but good enough (+10). Highly recommended, especially as a used buy. Now thinking about the green one.....
@@Rid_Of_Thee that's surprising, look on the forums - I'm not alone in hating that useless function. Just wish they'd make them with & without so we had a choice - im sure that more would sell as there's lots of consumers like me out there.
Great vid. Great info. Subbed. Interesting stuff lots to talk about. Crazy prices etc etc. Wasn't even aware of these new 'hybrids' coming out. I like the fact they have reduced the size slightly the extra crownguard material will increase the weight so the smaller size will help keeping the weight down as the turtle is a heavy watch. I agree about the lume application. The original and the sla033 have lume within the markers giving it a sharp edge whereas these new versions have the lume just dumped on top of the markers. Fantastic 6105 youv got what a find. Thanks for the great vid. 👍
Thanks for the comments and welcome aboard. I agree the beautiful markers on the 033 are stunning, it would have been great to get a similar look on the new releases coming out. Thanks again for your input cheers Peter
That the SLA033 does not have a crystal with a beveled edge like the 6105 is as disappointing as the SPB151 not having as round a case as the 6105. So Seiko decided not to make a modern version of the 6105 that gets these key features right. Not once but twice. Perplexing. And as a fan of the 6105...frustrating.
Your review points out some very salient points regarding the new Seiko reissues. You make some great comparisons between the new reissues, the 6105 and the SRP777. However, I like the smaller case size and the green dial. Also, I can't see my self spending 4K on a Seiko, reissue or not. To me, that's getting on towards pre-owned Rolex Datejust or Omega territory which I would gladly spend on those watches if I had it in my budget. I did purchase the SPB 153 and I look forward to getting it wearing it and adding it to my collection. It appeals to me visually and for me, that's all that matters.
Great stuff, i agree with you, that's sort of money is Omega / Rolex territory for sure. I think you did well in getting the green version of the Seiko, that's the one I would choose, well done and thank you for the feedback, cheers
Thanks, I agree, what are they thinking?..I was contemplating grabbing one to be a little brother to my original 6105 and now after closer inspection, it ain't gonna happen. :(
Yeah, but a brand new watch for half the price of a vintage original with questionable history that you’re scared to take in the water?... I’m still a buyer! Fantastic comparison 👍🏻 Narrowed case is a bummer. “Ain’t nothing like the real thing baby!”
Simple....buy a homage 6105 watch upgrade the movement to a seiko 6R15,add an aftermarket dial and hands(seikosis) and there you go your very own hot rod vintage looking 6105 for around £350.00! Would love to own an original or the SLA033 but a little to pricey for me,and as you’ve pointed out the new reissues are just lacking in that vintage feel of the original watch, really enjoyed watching your other 6105 videos they are probably the most honest and informative videos on this watch! Thanks
Thanks for sharing that, I really appreciate when my viewers give me honest feedback (good or bad) I am happy to listen. Stay safe and thanks again Peter
An excellent observation on the case. The spb151 is really a turtle with crown guards mimicking the 6105. Even the SLA didnt do a good enough job. The key failure is the posiion of the crown. The original has it right smacked at 4 oclock. The “copies” are either plus 4 or minus 4 which just makes it look off
Good to see them compared. The limited edition I really dig. (And would buy in a heartbeat if it was not limited (and expensive because of it.) The new version is a bit dissapointing. And the differences would probable bother me more and more. It's a very nice watch on itself. But still.....
The 151, minus the prospex logo and the steel bracelet, is the watch the original Willard should have been! User friendly size and shape, and well proportioned hands that are clearly visible when I scuba dive, as opposed to the original Willard's toothpicks on a saucer. Long live the 151!
I bought the Rdunae RX2 after buying Seiko’s Slim Turtle re-issue. It is very close close to the original Willard and at a fraction of the price. The Slim Turtle re-issue had very inaccurate timekeeping. I can’t wait for Seiko’s $2K re-issue of the SNK809.
Thank you for the great review. I agree that the SPB151 and 153 look more like the Turtle. Thanks for pointing that out. It almost seems like a mod watch more than a reissue.
Excellent review... thanks for that. The hour hands don't bother me since it'll be a bit easier to read than the original 6105-8110. As for the indices... thank you for pointing them out... I have to agree with you on these they don't reflect the asking price. I am on the wait list for the SPB151 and the thing that upsets me is that I cant get it with the rubber strap... so I am paying 200 USD for a bracelet I am going to remove. But that said I think I might have figured out what they are trying to do. Many folks wear their divers as a dress watch or only watch. And I believe that is what Seiko is trying to do with this watch and its why they have reduced the size... As you know Seiko wear smaller so the SPB151 will look like a 40/41mm watch on the wrist... so it becomes your daily/dress watch... one watch for many jobs. I have the SRP777 so very excited to put these two together on the wrist. I wonder what the street value will settle on these. Here in the US the SBP777 retails for $495 yet you can purchase them all day long at $350... So I figure the same will happen to the SPB151 after the excitement dulls down a bit. Unfortunately looks like I will be paying retail Oh well if it gets me as excited as the Turtle I'll be fine with it. Keep up the great work on these videos... especially like the Regulation and watch size on wrist video.
Blanchard Watch Company thank you and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the 151. Interesting to see how it actually wears, again you’re right it will sit smaller on the wrist for sure. Cheers
The only thing I have all the negative commentators to remind of: it is a REINTERPRETATION, not a reissue. They took the 70s model and looked at it with modern eyes and made it in the way they would bring this design out nowadays. So you have more contemporary size aimed to modern auditory, more dynamic case shape, you have the Sumo seconds hand and modern hour and minute stick hands they also use in spb143 etc. No issues here. At the end of the day everybody has a choice. For those who are in love with the original design the original and the limited reissue are the best options.
Being an owner of the original, I must say it is a completely different "feeling" of owning a piece that steeped so deep in historical significance. My experience has shown me that even the most expensive watches I have owned do not tick certain emotional boxes that a Vintage piece like the 6105 can. If you cannot afford the 6105 vintage (I see the prices have gone through the roof as of recent) then my advice is, don't make the mistake of trying to replace that 'feeling' you are trying to achieve with a 'replacement' watch..it doesn't work, I know I have tried that countless times over many years with many watches...they become band aids instead of cures! These reinterpretation watches are nice, however they stand alone, you either are going to LOVE them or see the faults in them (like I did) and spend time trying to convince ourselves why you should or shouldn't own one. Let me give you a more specific example that relates to me: The Seiko SBDC051 reinterpretation. It is a modern day re-interpretation of the 62MAS and although its general styling is 'similar' to the original, as a stand alone watch it is absolutely beautiful. I cannot afford an original 62MAS so I opted for the 051 (and I couldn't be happier) It does not replace the 62MAS in my heart emotionally, however like I said for me it is a beautiful 'stand alone' watch with great foundational styling. Personally form the photos, I have not been able to bond with these new SPB151 and 153 releases, they do not do it for me, even as a stand alone watch. However, in saying that, when the green one is released I think it will be the more attractive option and I might have a close look at it myself. In the flesh it might actually tick some boxes that might surprise us all. Either way, make your decisions based on what you actually WANT and then enjoy those watches.:) Cheers Peter
Peter Kotsa yes, I see it the same way, nothing is going to replace the originals. For me personally, I prefer the case shape and thinner lug width of the original, but I don’t want to own one due to the length of the seconds hand. I also like the green one, will see :) If the misalignments and poor customer service of Seiko won’t turn me off it may be worth considering. PS 62 MAS doesn’t touch me at all, it looks to standard and vanilla diverish to me :)) So the 051 is way more interesting and appealing for me at least
@@PeterKotsa I have to admit, that the green one is starting to be a bit more interesting to me. It has a unique vibe. I think when there's a few unboxings and reviews uploaded we'll get a better sense of how it works on the wrist. Thanks for the great review though. One of the smartest I've seen in a long time. And thanks for the advice Volodymyr Urbanovych. You are wise and gave me something to think about.
I've owned the SLA033 for over a year now and don't regret shelling out the cash one bit. If you really love the Willard, it's price - while steep - is worth it. These reinterpretations have shorter lug to lugs, are only 42.7mm in diameter and the crown/guards are higher and off kilter relative to 6105. It's a shame it's not bigger. Why Seiko made the SLA033 45mm and these less than 43mm is beyond me. I imagine smaller ones are likely more marketable to the masses; however, the Willard's size/shape is a big part its appeal to Willard lovers.
Yes I also own one and have done ever since it was released. People who haven't been lucky enough to buy one wouldn't understand the price point. Once you put it on you see why it costs what it does! A master piece
Excellent and honest review Peter. I've got an SPB153 coming and will let you know my impressions. I have to admit that I thought £1000 was a tad steep. I will compare it with my SPB053 which is a beautiful piece and considerably cheaper..Keep up the excellent work mate.
HI Alex, I think you chose the ought model, I have been looking at the photos that some people have released of this green SPB153 and it is a lovely looking colour. As for the SPB053, as you know I have the SPB051 myself and I cannot speak highly enough of that model, build quality way above its price point and superb styling. Let me know when you get the 153 and feel free to shoot me through some wrist shots, would love to see it, cheers info@peterkotsa.com
@@PeterKotsa CW notified me of a half-price sale yesterday and I couldn't resist. Yes the Vostok is an amazing piece. Built like a Soviet military vehicle and with a very interesting back-story. Where are you in Oz mate? We've been a few times as my lady's aunt lives in Adelaide. I will send a wrist shot of the 153 as soon as. I like the BMW inspired logo!
Thanks for the great unbiased review! Not that I claim to be Nostradamus but I predicted that’s exactly what they were gonna do with this watch months ago. Yet again Seiko releases a limited-edition not available to the public at large, and at a cost that is, in my opinion, unjustified. They no longer even pretend that they’re not going to release an unlimited version, slightly downgrade it, and market it as a bargain (while still being overpriced). My once favourite brand disappoints again. I no longer do ‘Seiko Saturday’. The count of the brand Stands at 8 in my collection (Down from 12 since the last year). I typically bought three or four seiko models a year Spending anywhere from 300 to 1200 Per watch. It’s been more than a year since I purchased one, and other brands Have been winning me over as a customer. I now believe it is fine to purchase homage Seiko watches as there are many available For the 6105 and 62MAS. They have a Seiko movement And great Specifications. Another argument for the Homage watches...The San Martin 6105 Is actually far more accurate and true to the original 6105, Then the Seiko 8110-6105 in this review. So you get a more accurate and true to the original for $300, or you can pay 1600+ For Seiko’s Inaccurate ‘Homage to themselves’ The end of the golden era of Seiko will be remembered as 2020.
Hi John, I must say I feel the same way about Seiko lately too. I was purchasing between 5 to 10 watches a year because they were CHEAP, nicely specked and beautifully designed. Come 2020 and I have to pay 4 times what I paid a year ago for literally the same watch???? I am also showing more attention to other brands with more attractive offerings at the same price. Thank you so much for the feedback, and very well put. cheers Peter
Thanks for the reply! I have noticed and appreciated your most recent ‘how to’ videos...I’m a hack when it comes to modding But my skills have improved slightly😆 You’re ‘how to regulate a watch’ Was super informative...I purchased the equipment a few months ago but wasn’t sure I was doing it right. I wasn’t, as your Video pointed out. I even pulled out the binoculars and gave that a try after watching that one. Thanks again for all the great content!
Fully agree with the comment below... I'll keep my SRP777 as the worthy heiress of the 6105. Cheap and really accurate, it's doing the job more than well for two and a half price less than this new "almost but not Captain Willard". For your information, my sample keeps its time since I bought it! incredible!!! No any sec lost or gained!
I really like the green dial version but I’m also lusting after a CWC SBS. I’m going to wait until June to see the ‘hands on’ reviews and make my mind up then. You’re totally right though the watch is £1000 here in the UK which is a lot of money. Btw your comparisons are awesome.
Hi James, can I be honest to you mate, if you ar lusting after the CWC SBS , I would personally go for that instead. I have found over the years I purchased certain watches because of "trend" and I was never happy. When I started buying the watches I actually WANTED, then I was completely satisfied...hope that helps bro:) cheers Peter
Peter Kotsa thanks for the reply Peter. I’ve owned many Seiko’s and they’ve all been sold but they’re at the 300/400 budget I assume that buying Seiko’s that are 1000+ you’d lose money if you come to sell it.
One of the first 'pictorials' I saw of the 6105 was on SCWF in the late 90s or early 2000s. A musician in Europe posted a series of wrist shots, where he showed the 6105 on a snowy street, in a train, in the orchestra pit at the theater where he played violin, and finally, a shot with the 6105 on his music stand. This was in the days that people posted wrist shot sequences when they went out. For some reason, that totally encompassed the romance of the 6105 for me, and I've loved that design ever since. I'll take a close look at the new version when they arrive.
What a phenomenal comprehensive review I've been looking for a 6105 i. Abu Dhabi but can never find one for three years now...the SLA 033 too expensive I opted for a breitling superocean 2 44 mm and a turtle for the meantime.will definitely get the SPB 151 and try to get a waffle strap on line....but I thoroughly apraciate the effort put into this video especially with the superimpositioning.... brilliant
Wow that was a great comparison. I still think the SPB 151 is a cool watch. Only the MSRP is pretty high. If Seiko wants to keep that level, they really need to sort out their QC issues. I am looking forward to this release
Very informative. Thank you so much for the extensive work you've done. After watching and wanting an everyday beater diver watch referring to the Willard-style I guess I'll go for a Steeldive, San Martin or Heimdallr instead.
Or maybe a Seiko Turtle which is basically a direct descendant of the original willard cushion case, (only more refined). Thanks for the feedback, cheers
I like the 151 and 153, especially the 153. Good idea to do a Willard-like case shape in a slightly smaller 43mm size for those who find the Turtle just too clunky. Price is high, but discounts are frequent. I could buy one Turtle and one King Turtle for about the same price, comparing like for like. But I won't.
In my opinion Seiko improved the classic 6105 design with these modern re-interpretations. The only things I would change on the SPBs are the crown (I would prefer a 4 o'clock crown) and the bezel pip (I'd like a bigger one). In my opinion the hands are better proportioned and I like more the slightly slimmer case.
These retail prices are the same as the SBDC061/SBDC063 and the more expensive SBDC065. Once the excitement is gone you will be able to get them from $700 to $900 USD. Looks good to me. You definitely were hard on these watches, especially for not even having one on hand.
Hi Matthew, yeah I know, however I can't justify that price point for what's being offered. However at $700-$900 they are definitely worth a look into..cheers Peter
@@PeterKotsa, great review and I agree completely. Maybe they have slimmed it down to appeal to more people who prefer smaller watches, but then they lost the appeal of that watch. The price should have been halved, to justify what they have produced. What I don't get about seiko lately is, they could have reproduced the original in every detail and put a 6r35 movement with sapphire for a thousand bucks, and they would of had a smash hit. But they seem to want to go too far up market, for most people's price point. That's what made seiko so successful in the past, producing good quality watches , built to last for a reasonable price. When you start charging 2k for what is a glorified turtle really, then they will start to lose customers. I know times have changed somewhat, but seiko will never be rolex, so why try to be something their not ? That's why grand seiko was released, to compete with the Swiss higher tier brands. People will still buy I'm sure , but I won't be rushing at these silly inflated prices. I mean the 62mas was very expensive, but at least they did the 051 series which were affordable for a modern day style wise watch. I mean even the 051 seemed expensive when it came out, but the overall quality of the watch does actually justify it's price point, same as the 061 series. To start asking twice that price for a similar specked watch is just silly .
@@PeterKotsa , hi Peter have you seen the new spb149, I haven't seen the specs yet but it's basically a o51 with the 62mas handset and a blue dial with black bezel. Looks nice but again they are charging £1350 against a price of £780 now for the 051 in the UK anyway. A big hike yet again !!! Just looked at the specs of the 149 online, and it's more boxy than the 051, smaller too at 40.5 mm case And a gilt seconds hand . It's also a limited edition to 5500 pieces, and I got to say I love it. I just wish they stop doing this because I think my head just been turned , bugger !!! That said it would be interesting to see the 051 and new 149 side by side , to really compare . Over to you Peter
Good comparison. I am seiko collector. I have a number of different cushion case with different sizes. Looking forward to getting at least one of this.
The markers on the 151 are smaller, and that is a down vote in my opinion. The original was a very bold, functional and tough watch. The first copy is my first choice, however I have an original on my wrist daily, and two others as spares, so I’ll stick with them. 6105 movement is good enough for me
I keep coming back to this video as there is a Willard somewhere in my future. The only one I can afford is the SPB151, but I just cannot get past the “misplaced” crown on the Willard X.
I own the 151, I really welcome the slightly smaller size. I agree without the prospex logo it would be better.. definitely looks amazing on the wrist though.
Great stuff Max, shoot through some wrist shots when you get a chance, I would love to see it rather than looking at all these renders from Seiko all the time. cheers mate, enjoy it. info@peterkotsa.com
Ok I’ll send some shots. I think you’ll find when you see it in person it’s like if you want a really polished high end turtle. I’m pretty sure you’ll find the dial has a higher quality than you believe from the renders as well (when you see it in person).
Also you have to remember that a lot of people like myself don’t really know the history, so when I went into the store, I felt this was the best looking watch. In fact, I was interested in a Sumo, or Turtle, and ended up trying this one on and forking out the extra because there was just a large noticeable difference in quality and finishing. I’m pretty sure most people who buy this watch won’t really know the history. But I think you review is kind of bang on because most of those people aren’t watching watch review videos!
Hi Im a bit late to this video - just curious, I've owned the Turtle 777 and an original Turtle 6309, both of those are 44mm wide if you measure 9 to 3 o'clock across case. Your overlay comparison of the 777 and the new spb151 indicates they are the same width which would be 44mm, but the literature for the new Willard 151 is that is 42.7mm wide not including crown guard. Im just wondering how you managed that, or is the literature for the 151 incorrect? Since Im interested in the 151, precisely because its smaller than the original Turtle, Im a bit confused now by your comparison. You made a great video btw.
Hi Christian, thanks for the feedback. You are correct, the size of the 151 its indeed 42.7mm. It was an oversight on my behalf. When I superimposed the two watches 777 and 151 over each other, I must of aligned the dials year slightly reduced the 777 to fit. The 777 should indeed be 1.3mm wider. It is a small difference, but I should have demonstrated that clearly in the overlay which I did not. The difference is more clear when I superimpose the 6105 and the 151. Thanks for pointing that out btw, appreciated. And also, enjoy the 151 or 153 if you acquire one, wear it in good health..it is a tad smaller as you and the literature states cheers Peter
Hi Peter, I'm the guy who's longines spring bar failed :) I've got the new Willard X it's pretty stunning the lume has that creamy white effect and is definitely applied it has a 3d effect not printed in person you can see this the indices are applied too. The glass and strap are very high quality and the new case size will appeal to a bigger audience, I love the original and presence of the original but dont write off the newby just yet in person as with most things it's much better. @@PeterKotsa I got the black but I've just ordered the green, crazy lol Where are you located? Maybe you could review the black if youre in the UK, happy to send. Thanks
@@douglaspuglas6888 I think the Green looks great, although you can't go wrong with the black (its a safe bet) I am in Melbourne (Mount Waverley) I just received a watch from one of my viewers (he's forma he Blue mountains (Sydney) i am reviewing that right now, should be posted in a day or so. Where are you based? best regards
Great video Peter. I don’t know how you come up with such professional stuff so quickly. I was all for this reissue as a water resistant daily version of my safe queen 6105. Unfortunately that role will remain filled by my turtles. Your video has highlighted the case similarities. They’ve basically extended the crown guards, thrown in a 6R and different dial and hands - for four times the price. I don’t think it will end up selling for 2k Oz though. MSRP on the SRP’s was 695 in Australia and they regularly sold on the grey for 300. Maybe I’ll pick up a babied preowned or a grey markdown from Starbuys when they do come down a bit. Again, well done. You have become one of my go-to reviewers. And Aussie to boot! Just don’t sell any fake Rolexes or grow horns and you’ll be number one Aussie watch man in no time. 👍
When the SPB053 first came to the Australian market it's RRP was close to $2k from memory. I ended up buying mine for $750 on eBay from an international seller. Flipped it at close to the same amount. And I agree we need a proper Seiko lover based in Australia. Peter, you will become the trimmed down Aussie version of Bruce Willams.
Though the difference in numbers appear slight, put it all together and the SLA033 feels considerably bigger and heavier than the original 6105; it seems to be a modified SRP777 case. The original 6105, despite its relatively large size for the times, rode flatter and lighter while the SLA033 feels rather clunky like the current turtle incarnation, though I like both. The new SPB151 should wear more like the original, judging from the specs.
Damnit. The shape is the killer for me. I don't own an original Willard, nor the SLA033, and I'd been waiting for Seiko to deliver an affordable version. They did, sort of, and yet punted the case shape. So the only avenue to obtain that awesome shape is the homage market? Oh and the smaller size doesn't appeal to me either. Goddamnit Seiko...
Great video - thank you. I was on the verge of buying the black version (spb151), but the differences in case shape that you've pointed out have turned me off it :( Upsetting that Seiko can't just offer us a like-for-like reissue, especially for £1000. As for Seiko increasing their prices (in my opinion) unreasonably - do you have recommendations for a brand that fills the gap in the market left by Seiko moving up a notch or two cost wise? Orient? I want a diver, something that can work as a good beach watch and i don't have to worry about the water resistance and movement's sturdiness, but i don't want a Chinese AliExpress special, regardless of materials used.
Hey Thomas, plenty of good stuff out there for really reasonable pricing. Try some microbrands rather than the big players...eg Zelos Blacktip 41mm, that's a great size and excellent bracelet. Alternatively there is there Gin Clear diver from Second hour, another excellent watch and greta for the beach and summer. I think Seiko has pushed their prices up and the micro brands have responded by supplying excellent watches at half the price almost.. Hope that helps Cheers mate
@@PeterKotsa definitely helpful info, thank you! Recently had my first experience with a microbrand, Koue, picked up a beautiful military style watch from them. Just watched your Christopher Ward Trident review, seems like a great option, and coming from the UK, would be nice to contribute to UK watchmaking, as it's an industry that has decreased over here since the 17/1800s.
Nice comparison of Captain Williard! Thanks. I own SLA033 and have seen 6105 in person and Ialso prefer the small stick hour hands, rather than thick hands of the new one..
Held one in person the other day. Was there to purchase a black bay 41, which I did.. but nearly walked out with one or two of these. They are exceptional.. for the price you are getting a fuck ton of watch. Tried this one and one other with a more modern look. Held a grand seiko in one hand and this in the other. Finishing is equal, not close... equal (it also has the scratch resist coating on the steel which gives it a cool "expensive" look). It is not SD but that's why it's only a grand, and that 6r with 3 days of power reserve is great (Kinda reminds me of the powermatic tissot and hamilton use.) Just coming to you as a person who two days ago dealt with the watch. It's killer, and I almost wanna go back and get it. But my wife would not approve lol *I want to note that this was a high luxury watch store, and the dealer more enthusiastic about these then the other watches in the store. To me that says something.
Thanks for that info Robbie, good to hear that Seiko didn’t skimp on finishing quality, great stuff. I suppose this is next in line for you. My suggestion, enjoy your beautiful black bay for now and keep the wife happy, until the next watch 😎
Inherited an original 6105 from my grandfather who was a career scuba diver, got me into watches. Unfortunately my apartment was robbed in Bristol, UK and it was taken. Needless to say it cant ever be replaced but I love to pick one of these new affordable models up, since the SLA is out of reach for a poor engineering student. GOD i would do anything to get that watch back! Looks like i better get saving for the new models
I think we are in for and re releases over and over again and Seiko just like Omega is going to Milk it for as long as they can. Is the new SLA049 or 051 any good?...well, they look like decent watches, I have some likes and dislikes when aesthetically looking at them. Would I pay the asking price?...that's something to ponder..lol I'd like to see one in the hand and get a real feel of what is on offer, then I could make a more honest opinion and judgement of the watch Cheers
@@PeterKotsa I agree. Seiko is going nuts with their prices. And they are releasing so many variants of their watches that I am not able to keep track of models and differences. The MM300 is another example. They have just come out with the green variant, which, though less expensive then the last year grey blue version, is still very expensive. At US $3k-5k, I might as well shell out a bit More and buy the watch I really like.
Hey Peter, Great review! That was a brilliant observation on the shape of the case. It must be cheaper for Seiko to modify an existing case shape (by adding the crown guard) than to manufacture a new one that more closely matches the original 6105 design. If not, then why not get it right? They've butchered the design. Same with the "faux" applied indices that look like they were stamped on, instead of having metal borders. I can't help but have the feeling that Seiko is taking everyone for a ride, charging a premium price while giving back the least amount in return. Meanwhile... companies like San Martin are killing it with their 6105 homages. Mine cost just over $200.00... Ceramic bezel, domed Sapphire crystal, beautiful finishing, real applied indices, and *extremely* bright C3 Superliminova. I put mine on an original Tropic Star strap. It looks amazing!
Im hearing what you're saying. I loved Seiko when they produced watches that were excellent value for money and quality was great. In the last x amount of years they have had issues of quality control whilst at the same time they have also doubled tippled and quadrupled their prices. Very strange
@@PeterKotsa Seiko has become almost like the gal who knows she has you wrapped around her finger. Don't get me wrong... I appreciate their heritage. They've made many innovations through the years and still make some cracking watches! But, things like bezel misalignment issues imho are inexcusable on a $600.00 -$700.00 watch... like on my spb053 I purchased a couple of years ago and ultimately flipped. I recently purchased the sne543p1, based on your review and modded it the same way. It's amazing how simply removing the shroud transforms the watch completely. It's a great piece and I really like it. I give it an "A" on design. It really looks cool, is extremely legible, and everything is lined up, spot on! Plus, the solar power aspect is appealing to me, although I'm partial to automatics... The thing is... I work with my hands and I'm afraid to wear it to my job. It has an aluminum bezel and a hardlex crystal. One knock and the bezel will be dinged and/or the crystal will have a scratch. If the Chinese are manufacturing watches for around a couple of hundred with higher specs (Sapphire & ceramic) why can't Seiko? The vast majority of their watches are made in China anyway.
I have a save the ocean Limited 🐢 Turtle looks familiar with weekdays display and I 😍 love it, I think as a entry grade, when it comes to dive watches, the Seiko is the best, and Citizen eco drive best at sport field watches ,Tissot (gentleman) perfect for the dress watches.
Eventually, the new model will be on Starbuy or for Christmas/New Year sale at Bevilles, and the price will be much more palatable. It's surprising how much more it retails for than the Turtle.
@@PeterKotsa When you compared the case with the Turtle, I was shocked. It's like they tweaked the Turtle CAD design with an extra bump in the crown guard and called it a day. When you laid the image next to the original 6105, the difference was really clear. I wonder if Seiko are trying to justify or ride on the price of the SLA? As if to say, 'look, we know the SLA is expensive, but how about this at less than a third of the price?'
I believe what Seiko did to SPB151, like the strange case shape and the printing on the dial, is to separate them from SLA033. Otherwise, it would be hard to convince the SLA033 owners that is a special edition. Most of the people probably won't tell the little difference, other than the additional printing on the dial, anyway, most people only care about the price difference and they just want something look alike. SPB151 is close enough.
Great job! Fantastic review! But... I don’t understand Seico strategy. Lot of money for what? So, do you think about comparing original 6105 with homage from SteelDive/Heimdallr/San-Martin?
Thanks for the feedback. I agree it is expensive for these new watches. As for the homages, they all have their own take on the original, I suppose every individual need sot pick what makes them happy per dollar spent. Thanks again Peter
Brilliant comparison thank you! I think the main reason for the 'tweaks' in the new version is they had to modify it subtly to make it different enough to the limited edition re-edition or they would have had a LOT of angry customers who had thrown down £7k to then see an almost identical version for £1k For me it looks similar enough for me to be VERY interested, I'm just waiting for stores to re-open so I can actually see it in real life rather than press photos. Will it be enough to tempt me when I already have the Sharkey version? Who knows. I'm thinking probably yes but I'll need to try it on first. And the bonus being that there will no doubt be a lot of aftermarket parts like lumed ceramic bezels etc coming out like there are for the six and turtles.
You're probably right, being a Seiko the modded parts are going to start coming in pretty soon after release. It will be interesting to see what looks they come up with. cheers
Very good review. I was set on the SPB153 until I saw your video. I am still hoping that in person it might convince me to pull the trigger. Since you have the SLA version, it would be great if you can borrow the 151/153 from local dealer and do a real world comparison.
@@PeterKotsa Yes of course. I meant whenever it is convenient and safe to do so. The good news is that this not a limited edition so I need not worry about it selling out!
I think they did such things on a purpose in the new SPB151 to make the previous SLA special being a limited edition. Seiko always does the job 100% on divers "limited edition". Those who can't afford the SLA will automatically get the SPB. I might call it "Baby Cpt. Willard" Thanks for the detailed review, love it!
If you can choose one watches only. Which one you prefer 8119 6105 or sla033? Because my friend want to sell 8119 6105 for usd1000. Or should i wait until i get enough money to buy sla033. Btw in my place sla033 is usd3000. Thank your peter.
If they took the SLA version, and put in a 4R35 or a 6R15 movement, and charged a straight $1,000 (U.S.), I bet it would sell much better. If I'm right, that 8R movement is from Grand Seiko, and that's where the higher cost is.
I mean it's a well done video but you should put a disclaimer that you never held or compared them in the metal side by side. It's a bit unfair to compare a photo of a watch that hasn't been released yet. I hope you do an update when SRP151 does release
Ok great thanks for the heads up about the disclaimer, I will put it in the description section now. I will try and do an update when it gets released to see how it handles in the flesh. cheers Peter
Hey Pete. Don't know how I missed this one 1st time around? As you know I've been collecting neo-vintange versions of Vietnam war era pieces of late, so I had to get me a Willard! I was *really* disappointed with the SPB design wise and just plain pissed off at the price! I couldn't afford the SLA even if I could get my hands on one!, and I didn't really want to pony up for a vintage 6105. I'm just not comfortable in that part of the vintage market. I don't know enough. So you know what I did? I bought an SLA knock-off from San Martin in China! Paid $300. It's really well spec'd, has sapphire and an NH35 - the only thing I don't like is that it has a lumed ceramic bezel with no lume pip. It's not ideal, but TBH I have wanted to give this brand a look. I keep hearing really good things about their quality. And if it's the only way I can get my hands on a reliable 'Willard'...if I can even call it that, then so be it! A great vid again mate. I think I did the right thing - but I'll let you know when it turns up! Cheers bud. Anthony
Well at least you didn't have to spend BIG on any of the Seiko variants. Getting the San Martin will hopefully get the bug out of your system because you will get a watch that has the same footprint and very similar looks. Alternatively it might have the opposite effect and cause you to desire the original even more..LOL Either way it hasn't broken the bank and you've gotten yourself out of trouble. cheers mate
Peter Kotsa - I will get my self an original 6105 one day I think, or at the very least an SLA. At the moment I just can't justify spending the $ - got kids to feed, and the next buy, a Zodiac Sea Wolf (no date) will be a decent chunk of charge. This frickin' hobby! I could be paying off another house!
Check out Wancher. They have a version of the 6105. I have an SLA033 and the Wancher. At a more than casual glance I often pick up the wrong one from my dresser.
The SLA is a limited edition high end model that is priced much higher due to the fact that it has a better movement and overall case finishing, dial finishing etc. As for the price, well thats up to Seiko. Personally I think they have increased their pricing structure on all these bottom end watches as well now (Ideally watches that should cost around $700-$1000 AUD, are costing us $1500-$2000 AUD.) Thats why i mentioned in the video it would have been better of Seiko released the SLA as aNON LIMITED EDITION and price it $1000-$1500 less and everyone could enjoy it. Thanks for sharing, cheers
@@PeterKotsa
Well, I have four 6309 Turtles and three 4R36 New Turtles.
@@varunu4176
Well, I don't mind the different accuracy I get from one New Turtle to the others, or any other Seiko I've got.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing.
I’ll have to check it out 👍
Peter at last a genuine review of this watch that draws out some of the negatives. So many reviews have missed the slight nuances to the design and have plain ignored the question of pricing. I was excited by this watch until I saw the price. It really is a slightly redesigned turtle. Even accounting for the different movement I still can't understand the pricing.
Well said, its a simple money grab from the ignorant...Seiko is playing a silly game here (and I love Seiko watches..but this thing is more than a little bit of a let down to me)
Thanks again
Peter
Peter Kotsa certainly some rather strange decisions coming out of seiko recently!!
Thanks for sharing Nathan and congrats, enjoy it mate
very correct review, you’re setting a standard for reviews
Cedar Canoe just sayin it as I see it
EXCELLENT review! I truly appreciate you going into hands-on verifiable details instead of only subjective analysis. Superimposing made it so much easier to asses, good job👍. /subbed
Welcome aboard and Cheers 👍
Good choice, glad that you were able to actually try it on before you purchased, enjoy it !!
I am happy with my SteelDive Homage. I like how presented this watch with all the differences etc.
Bought for $950 US
Great stuff..ENJOY !!!
Very nice review! I have the SLA033!! Stunning watch!!!
Good choice! enjoy..
Any advise on where to get one and price expectations? Thanks!
ABlogToWatch just posted the first hands-on review of SPB153 and it looks incredible! Can’t wait for Peter to do a hands-on video!
One of the best reviews on youtube thus far!
Thanks, appreciated :)
I... don't think I've ever met someone who disliked a date complication
@@Rid_Of_Thee that's surprising, look on the forums - I'm not alone in hating that useless function. Just wish they'd make them with & without so we had a choice - im sure that more would sell as there's lots of consumers like me out there.
@@stevefox8605 i like having a calender on my wrist for utility purposes, but go off I guess.
Great vid. Great info.
Really good comparison. Great job superimposing the cases!
Tai Nguyen thanks, appreciate it cheers Peter
‘Does not make sense!’ This should be Seiko’s tagline now. Seiko have completely lost it if you ask me. Good vlog.
Well said Matthew.
Stay safe and thanks again
Peter
Great review. Thank you. Increased my love for my 6105 8810.
Cult classic
I bought the Rdunae RX2 after buying Seiko’s Slim Turtle re-issue. It is very close close to the original Willard and at a fraction of the price. The Slim Turtle re-issue had very inaccurate timekeeping.
I can’t wait for Seiko’s $2K re-issue of the SNK809.
Thank you for the great review. I agree that the SPB151 and 153 look more like the Turtle. Thanks for pointing that out. It almost seems like a mod watch more than a reissue.
Thanks for watching and thanks for your feedback as well. We will see what they look like in the flesh when they are released. cheers Peter
This is such a good video. Great how you compare these pieces.
Bass Wars then you have to prioritize and to choose between you spending possibility and wishes. There is always an option for everybody
Let me give you a more specific example that relates to me:
The Seiko SBDC051 reinterpretation.
Either way, make your decisions based on what you actually WANT and then enjoy those watches.:)
Cheers
Peter
Peter Kotsa yes, I see it the same way, nothing is going to replace the originals. For me personally, I prefer the case shape and thinner lug width of the original, but I don’t want to own one due to the length of the seconds hand. I also like the green one, will see :) If the misalignments and poor customer service of Seiko won’t turn me off it may be worth considering.
PS 62 MAS doesn’t touch me at all, it looks to standard and vanilla diverish to me :)) So the 051 is way more interesting and appealing for me at least
@@Guitarspieler1000 nicely put. I agree, if these new models come out with misalignment issues I think many people will be screaming and yelling..
Enjoy the SLA James , its a beauty of a watch !!
Yes I also own one and have done ever since it was released. People who haven't been lucky enough to buy one wouldn't understand the price point. Once you put it on you see why it costs what it does! A master piece
your too good peter well now i have second thoughts on the green will 153
Excellent and honest review Peter.
Let me know when you get the 153 and feel free to shoot me through some wrist shots, would love to see it,

So you get a more accurate and true to the original for $300, or you can pay 1600+ For Seiko’s Inaccurate ‘Homage to themselves’
The end of the golden era of Seiko will be remembered as 2020.
Excellent enjoy that 777 it’s a top watch, versatile, robust and great looks 👍👍
Thats beautiful, would love to see those shots. If you have them drop me an email..
Thanks to your video, it helped me a lot and I got the Seiko Turtle

Great stuff..ENJOY 👍
What a phenomenal comprehensive review I've been looking for a 6105 i. Abu Dhabi but can never find one for three years now...the SLA 033 too expensive I opted for a breitling superocean 2 44 mm and a turtle for the meantime.will definitely get the SPB 151 and try to get a waffle strap on line....but I thoroughly apraciate the effort put into this video especially with the superimpositioning.... brilliant
seraaj regal thanks for the input and support. Enjoy the Breitling btw cheers from Oz Peter
Wow that was a great comparison.
I still think the SPB 151 is a cool watch. Only the MSRP is pretty high.
If Seiko wants to keep that level, they really need to sort out their QC issues.
I am looking forward to this release
Thanks for watching!
You are the man!!! Awesome videos and I respect your opinions
Cheers
Very informative, best compareson video ..thanks mate.
glad you enjoyed it
cheers
I think when prices do settle at a lower rate, then many more pope will jump on these..
And the hands, they are too thick.
Fair enough. A modern approach to a classic :)
A great comparison video
Martin Harrison glorified turtle, I love it well said. I totally agree with you about their current direction, well said
@@PeterKotsa , hi Peter have you seen the new spb149, I haven't seen the specs yet but it's basically a o51 with the 62mas handset and a blue dial with black bezel. Looks nice but again they are charging £1350 against a price of £780 now for the 051 in the UK anyway. A big hike yet again !!!
Just looked at the specs of the 149 online, and it's more boxy than the 051, smaller too at 40.5 mm case
And a gilt seconds hand .

6105 movement is good enough for me
I liked the video, great info and thanks! btw what seiko is that at 0:23??
One is a blue srpc13j, the other is the current Albino alpinist

And also, enjoy the 151 or 153 if you acquire one, wear it in good health..it is a tad smaller as you and the literature states
cheers
Peter
Details worked out very well. Good job, buddy!

I've got the new Willard X it's pretty stunning the lume has that creamy white effect and is definitely applied it has a 3d effect not printed in person you can see this the indices are applied too. The glass and strap are very high quality and the new case size will appeal to a bigger audience, I love the original and presence of the original but dont write off the newby just yet in person as with most things it's much better.
Too funny, thanks though for the uplifting words. As for selling fake Rolex's..I clearly hear you and no thanks, that's not my cup of tea :)
What do you mean by trimmed down?..are you calling Bruce overweight?..LOL... I like Bruce Williams, I think he's a cool dude :)
@@PeterKotsa By his own admission he has been dieting. At one time I thought he was eating his Seikos and not flipping them. :)
@@galaga8834 haha, that's funny..he can't be greedy like that, share the love, share those Seiko's
The new SPB151 should wear more like the original, judging from the specs.
well said :)
Clark W I hear your pain and am mutually disappointed as well
@@PeterKotsa Maybe we nickname this the "Notched Turtle"? thanks to the case shapes being basically the same?
Hope that helps
Cheers mate

But my wife would not approve lol
*I want to note that this was a high luxury watch store, and the dealer more enthusiastic about these then the other watches in the store.
Also glad they didn’t put arrow hands on this and instead went for more marine master hands \
Sorry to hear about the watch being stolen, especially because it was a hand me down from your grandfather.
Excellent comparison. What is your take on the new Seiko Prospex SLA049 and SLA051 Naomi Uemura?
I think we are in for and re releases over and over again and Seiko just like Omega is going to Milk it for as long as they can. Is the new SLA049 or 051 any good?...well, they look like decent watches, I have some likes and dislikes when aesthetically looking at them. Would I pay the asking price?...that's something to ponder..lol
I'd like to see one in the hand and get a real feel of what is on offer, then I could make a more honest opinion and judgement of the watch

At US $3k-5k, I might as well shell out a bit
More and buy the watch I really like.

guidine7 it’s like the Matrix, you took the correct pill 💊
Me too. My bubble has been burst.
Hey Peter,
Great review!
I have a save the ocean Limited 🐢 Turtle looks familiar with weekdays display and I 😍 love it, I think as a entry grade, when it comes to dive watches, the Seiko is the best, and Citizen eco drive best at sport field watches ,Tissot (gentleman) perfect for the dress watches.
well said, couldn't have said it better myself :)
I think the citizen eco drive pro master diver is just as good as a diver as any seiko and I love both companies
Thank you for your good effort!!
My pleasure! glad you liked it
Eventually, the new model will be on Starbuy or for Christmas/New Year sale at Bevilles, and the price will be much more palatable. It's surprising how much more it retails for than the Turtle.
I know, well overpriced and overhyped at the moment..
Good presentation

I believe what Seiko did to SPB151, like the strange case shape and the printing on the dial, is to separate them from SLA033. Otherwise, it would be hard to convince the SLA033 owners that is a special edition. Most of the people probably won't tell the little difference, other than the additional printing on the dial, anyway, most people only care about the price difference and they just want something look alike. SPB151 is close enough.
Nicely put Scotty and you're probably right, introduce an affordable reinterpretation without 'offending' current SLA033 owners etc
Well said
Peter Kotsa thank you for opinion.
Would you buy the SLA over a Tudor???
Personally no
I think the Tudor is extremely unique in many ways
Cheers
Brilliant comparison thank you! I think the main reason for the 'tweaks' in the new version is they had to modify it subtly to make it different enough to the limited edition re-edition or they would have had a LOT of angry customers who had thrown down £7k to then see an almost identical version for £1k
For me it looks similar enough for me to be VERY interested, I'm just waiting for stores to re-open so I can actually see it in real life rather than press photos.
It will be interesting to see what looks they come up with. cheers
Great and informative review.....Thank you ;)
Glad it was helpful! Cheers
Nice detail review 👍👍👍
Cheers
I agree with absolutely everything you've said, it's lost the character of the sla and is ridiculously expensive.
Thanks, I think purists see what were talking about, Cheers Peter
Go buy a Rolex Submariner then. You'll soon understand the meaning of expensive !!!!
How did you get a clean copy of the 6105? They are so rare now. Great channel by the way, subscribed.
chance..I just happened to be at the right place at the right time..😊
Very good review. I was set on the SPB153 until I saw your video. I am still hoping that in person it might convince me to pull the trigger. Since you have the SLA version, it would be great if you can borrow the 151/153 from local dealer and do a real world comparison.
Thanks for the feedback, as for borrowing any watches at this stage, we are back in a 6 week lockdown here in Melbourne due to covid19 :(
@@PeterKotsa Yes of course. I meant whenever it is convenient and safe to do so. The good news is that this not a limited edition so I need not worry about it selling out!
@@PeterKotsa btw, what do you think about the new 62MAS reissues. I mean like the SBDC101/105/107?
Thanks for this. I think you have saved me a pretty penny as I will get a turtle instead of this reissue. Until they make an affordable exact copy.
Quite a few people have said the same thing. I think me too :)
cheers
Very interesting. Good job!
cheers
I think they did such things on a purpose in the new SPB151 to make the previous SLA special being a limited edition. Seiko always does the job 100% on divers "limited edition".
Those who can't afford the SLA will automatically get the SPB. I might call it "Baby Cpt. Willard"
Thanks for the detailed review, love it!
If you can choose one watches only.
Which one you prefer 8119 6105 or sla033?
Because my friend want to sell 8119 6105 for usd1000. Or should i wait until i get enough money to buy sla033. Btw in my place sla033 is usd3000.
Thank your peter.
I think you cannot beat the original...if it is in great condition, then $1000 is a good deal !!
cheers
If they took the SLA version, and put in a 4R35 or a 6R15 movement, and charged a straight $1,000 (U.S.), I bet it would sell much better. If I'm right, that 8R movement is from Grand Seiko, and that's where the higher cost is.
I agree, that would be awesome and it would be their TOP selling watch, cheers Peter
Still overpriced. It's a 8L35 movement from GS and a unregulated 1
How can you do a review about watches that you haven't got in your hands? Amazing!
I will try and do an update when it gets released to see how it handles in the flesh. cheers
Peter
@@PeterKotsa No problem. Keep up the great work!
@@ArmandoJF33 cheers
Hey Pete.
Don't know how I missed this one 1st time around?
As you know I've been
collecting neo-vintange versions of Vietnam war era pieces of late, so I had to get me a Willard!
Alternatively it might have the opposite effect and cause you to desire the original even more..LOL
Either way it hasn't broken the bank and you've gotten yourself out of trouble.
I had it with Seiko. Might as well get a homage from Heimdallr or San Martens which are far far cheaper ! 😅
When it comes to something like this bad, your probably right..
I'm sort of gone off the SPB151 now, why couldn't they make SLAO33 in thousands and not 2500
Excellent job! Thank you for that. Best comparison I have seen yet.
Glad it was helpful! thanks for watching, cheers Peter
At first I was sceptical about the review. However, I liked it, it is an honest and detailed one. Thank you for your work. 🙏
I appreciate that and thanks you for the feedback. Cheers Peter
good video tho note that the original jdm turtle 6306 is more round pebble, unlike modern turtles.
What's the price of the SLA033? AU$6500? How is that a better value proposition?
The SLA is a limited edition high end model that is priced much higher due to the fact that it has a better movement and overall case finishing, dial finishing etc. As for the price, well thats up to Seiko. Personally I think they have increased their pricing structure on all these bottom end watches as well now (Ideally watches that should cost around $700-$1000 AUD, are costing us $1500-$2000 AUD.)
Thats why i mentioned in the video it would have been better of Seiko released the SLA as aNON LIMITED EDITION and price it $1000-$1500 less and everyone could enjoy it.
Thanks for sharing, cheers
