But I've been complaining about this since Inside Out 2. Everyone slept on Elemental, and that's why they're doing a fifth Toy Story. Why bother trying to get an audience in for an original concept (or as original as we have after thousands of years of storytelling), when they won't show up? Only thing I can say is go see Elio when it comes out, and bring as many people into the theater as possible.
@@mightyfilm I plan to see Pixar’s Elio when it comes out, same with Pixar’s Hoppers and Walt Disney Animation Studios’ untitled 2026 original film as well.
Elemental was marketed horribly, it seem like a Zootopia derivative when it actually was a love story about immigration, cultural blending etc. Most corporations don't take the blame on themselves and push it back on consumers, for Pixar I grew out of it as I started to see the creative where showing a message but I didn't need it hammered home. 0:33 I didn't know what Strange World was, their was nothing noticeable in marketing to me and have the younger crowd latch to it. Wish is good and like Elemental its a solid movie and marketed wrong. Like the representation (hairstyles) was their but not strong enough to attend and honestly finding out it was a prequel to a catch phrase and the underlying context sold the movie to me s a really good one.
So "Wish" was really meant to be a prequel to that phrase? Wow, i had no clue. Well, if it wasn't for Disney excecs meddling with the project the end results would've turned out way better i think.
@olleselin that's genuinely what is was, and I was enthralled to the end. The villian was a true villian, a decent guy that was corrupted by power and people had undying faith in him and never questioned him. The power he had when used turned into a green misty smoke (typical of early Disney villians), the star was the protagonist that set everything in motion with the phrase purpose (and message) and you even had callbacks to characters like Thumper and how animals can talk. Disney marketed heavy on the Box Braids hairstyle which was great to see in the woman protagonist that genuinely questioned the status quo. But Disney didn't follow up on the other aspects of it. The movie is really deep and worth deep dives but nobody latched onto it for some reason, even the hair diversity wasn't enough to get the numbers needed. Heck it wasn't a movie I thought of even with the box braids thing mentioned above. It's just something I think Disney team missed
People have been afraid of Disney sequels because there's a stigma that they all suck, which isn't true. But also because Disney tends to stick with a money-making trend for years until it no longer works (like the live-action remakes).

While Pixar has made great sequels before, I can see Disney Animation get progressively better at sequels since they are pretty much new to it. Practice makes perfect
Now I see people saying that sequels will be the norm and we won’t get any more originals. That’s actually not true because in an interview with one of Disney executives, he said that they are still doing originals and there needs to be a balance. I don’t think originals will ever go away for good, however that doesn’t mean we won’t see a lot more sequels than originals. I mean we already are, but I think it will get even worse if people don’t go support original movies. It’s sad because as much as I do enjoy sequels, I love originals even more because it’s something new and fresh. That’s why I’m beyond excited for Elio 🌎🪐💫 It looks visually stunning and it looks really promising. I’m definitely gonna go support it, and see it as many times as possible when it releases in theaters. Please go support Elio and Hoppers 🙏🏻

Disney: More sequels and a lack of original ideas? Are you sure? Well, the past few years have been kinda slow, Strange World and Wish didn’t do as well as we hoped- (Disney fans look cross) Disney: Frozen 4? (Inspired by a scene in Crash Twinsanity involving Cortex saying he wasn’t able to pay the penguins due to Wrath of Cortex not doing well with Cortex representing Disney, the penguins representing Disney fans, the cheque bouncing representing a lack of original ideas, Wrath of Cortex representing Strange World and Wish and the fish representing the upcoming Frozen 4)
Are used Zootopia 2 is one of the few Disney sequels that I definitely think it is necessary because there is a lot more to explore with it worldbuilding and also especially they are including reptiles which honestly honestly sounds really exciting actually
Do you think studios actively used "AI" to upset animation? I'm seeing people hate the tech rather then the people deploying the tech. IMO animation it the tricky slope where it has the most fun and messages but it's a public thought that you grow out of.
Then how are people really excited for Zootopia 2 when they are complaining about sequels honestly I think Zootopia is one of the few Disney movies that deserves a sequel because there is a lot more to explore with its worldbuilding
Moana 2 was solely made for Moana 3. Literally no substance in this sequel. Disappointing really, because not only was the first movie great but it surpassed Wicked at the box office which in contrast was seriously an incredible movie. (Side note: Wicked is what I imagine Disney attempts to do when they release their “live action movies” which have generally been really bad to date. I mean all this does is show the top Disney execs that people will watch and support even movies that have no soul, therefore it should come to no one’s surprise when other sequels and remakes for movies we once cherished are tarnished again and again.
Oh well, it's not like they were going to tone this down. In my opinion, as long as the sequels themselves are critically well-reviewed (or at least have audience scores on par with previous installments), I'll take what I can get. Plus, critically speaking, Moana 2 was more the exception than the rule, which itself wouldn't have happened if they had kept it a Disney+ original, so consider me cautiously optimistic
Same thing’s gonna happen with the live action remakes and marvel. If Mufasa and Snow White make a billion each we’ll definitely get sequels to them. Little Mermaid did decent numbers considering Disney released it in 2023 so I wouldn’t be surprised if we get another little mermaid. Another Deadpool and Wolverine is guaranteed Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds will literally be doing it until they’re ninety. I’m worried about Disney’s quality - it looks like we might be heading into another dark age.
While I do support sequels to movies that I enjoy, Disney and other studios should know that they can't keep making sequels endlessly forever. No matter the franchise, there's only so much you can do with it before people get sick of it and it no longer becomes profitable.
At least Zootopia is one of the few Disney movies that I think deserves a sequel especially there is a lot more to explore, but if it’s worldbuilding, I’m honestly fine with having a Zootopia sequel
It's obviously good for Disney but from all I've heard, Moana 2 should've stayed a miniseries because it didn't satisfy as start to finish a film narrative and the side characters didn't get to develop well as they should've. I just wish Disney would stop running franchises ragged, but as long as Iger's in charge it'll be remakes and sequels dominating every studio. Just curious, did Moana 2 do better than Wicked? Cause I would have easily thought that Wicked would have broke more records than Moana 2 since it's promotion and fandom seem bigger than Moana to me (they've been around longer and the toy and merchandise is everywhere for Wicked).
I figured it was going to make a lot of money. But to be fair, though it's not all the audience To blame A lot of this is with the studios. They're not advertising a lot of original Content either.
so the problem I would say is critics hate this movie but Disney isnt making this movie for the critics. They're making it for the kids who loved Moana and know the parents will take their kids to Moana 2.
Not necessarily the case. Look at the Wild Robot. That was a big hit. And that was an original movie. But, yeah. Disney should try to do more original movies. Like a Mickey Mouse movie for 2028.
If the movie was good by all accounts, this would sit a little better with me. At least with something like Inside Out 2 I can take some comfort in knowing people just wanted to see a great movie at the theatre. This is a little more worrisome. Will Disney feel the need to do sequels to more of their recent films now? I generally feel ok about the state of cinema, I go to the theatre enough and see so many new and original movies that I know it’s not all remakes and sequels (and there are good versions of those things!). It’s with these big companies that use to be all about new and original that are now playing it safe that I get disheartened.
Pretty sad how this is what cinema is nowadays to where people are more keyed on sequels and remakes more than something original like Transformers One and The Wild Robot. Anything labeled Disney equals the amount of money they make despite making content aimed at children.
And those gen alpha kids are going to grow up with these sequels and be forced by their parents to put on the predecessors and hardly grow up with anything original like I did in the 2000s
NOW LET'S BE FAIR HERE, Disney already had some sequels down the pipe line like with Frozen before this and we are still getting original content like with Elio, One dosnet have to be better than the other and this movie defiantly showed that👍
But at least Zootopia 2 has always been planned to be a movie from the ground up and I feel far less worried about that movie, especially it has been in development for a long time actually ever since 2017 It has been in development for a while it has been taking longer to make actually longer to bake in the oven actually unlike Moana 2 where it’s basically stitched together episodes from the canceled TV series and I feel far less worried about Zootopia 2 because I think Zootopia is one of the few Disney sequels that is necessary considering that there is a lot more to explore with its world building I feel a lot less worried about it and I am still so hyped up for the movie and I’m so happy that it has always been planned to be a movie and not a television series which is a good thing actually because Zootopia already got a TV show back in 2022 on Disney+ with Zootopia + and I’m happy that Zootopia 2 has always been planned to be a movie from the ground up actually and even Byron Howard, who directed the first movie is coming back to direct the sequel, which is also really exciting because he understands Zootopia and honestly, I would consider Byron Howard to be one of the best Disney Directors ever though Walt Disney animation Studios is still going to be making original films, actually I am so happy that Zootopia 2 has always been planned to be a movie and it always has been actually which is very awesome and very exciting at the exact same time as well and I don’t feel too worried about Zootopia 2 because honestly, this is like making a sequel to Inside Out and also, I think Zootopia 2 is going to be a hit actually and I’m happy that it has always been planned to be a movie from the ground up
I haven't seen this movie yet though i recently saw Inside Out 2 and it was great. Also are you still planning on making the Mickey Mouse evolution this year?

I liked Moana 2, and I crossing my fingers that the future sequel projects will be as such as good too, or maybe better
Why are people acting like sequels are a bad thing? As long as they are good movies that’s all that matters.
Exactly.
People have been afraid of Disney sequels because there's a stigma that they all suck, which isn't true.
But also because Disney tends to stick with a money-making trend for years until it no longer works (like the live-action remakes).
@ Where did that stigma come from?
@@gamestation2690 Just, vibes I guess.
@@gamestation2690 I think it came from The Return of Jafar.
It's sad but it's true that you ca get rich quick by making something children like that double as background nose.
Vote with your wallet and don’t see these uninspired and lazy cash grabs
Toy Story 5 💀
Too Late!
The consumers just want the same old.
Disney know it saves money on promotion if sequels are made.
Dave Lee, I hope the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences (AMPAS) will bringing back the 'Animated characters' presenters for the Animation categories format from the 88th Oscars in 2016 where Kevin, Stuart and Bob (from Illumination's *_Minions_* and *_Despicable Me_* franchise) and Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear (from *_Toy Story_* franchise) were presented the Animation categories will take to stage at the 97th Oscars on March 2nd, 2025 if Mr. Wolf from DreamWorks' *_The Bad Guys 2_* and Ruby Gillman from DreamWorks' *_Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken_* will presenting Best Animated Short Film and Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Disney's *_Zootopia 2_* will presenting Best Animated Feature Film with support from Wolf and Ruby after Jimmy Kimmel's "lazy" joke about animation during the 96th Oscars sparked a strong reaction from *_Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse_* producer Chris Miller.
Thank You!
To be honest seeing how Disney sequels have become box office hits, this is not surprising.
After Moana 2 disney should reboot Thumbelina 1994 in CGI animation with sabrina carpenter as the voice of thumbelina, Alex Aiono as the voice of prince cornelius, Nicki Minaj as Mrs toad, Lin Manuel miranda as Jacquimo, Adam Sandler as Beetle and Kristin Chenoweth as Mrs Fieldmouse✨🧚♀
Disney: More sequels and a lack of original ideas? Are you sure? Well, the past few years have been kinda slow, Strange World and Wish didn’t do as well as we hoped-
(Disney fans look cross)
Disney: Frozen 4?
The only sequel I'm excited for right now is Zootropolis 2😊
Hello dave remember the animation guild if it Wasn’t for AI replacing artists then we could have gotten more amazing animated shows
Do you think studios actively used "AI" to upset animation?
I'm seeing people hate the tech rather then the people deploying the tech.
IMO animation it the tricky slope where it has the most fun and messages but it's a public thought that you grow out of.
Moana 2 smashes records
Maui: You're welcome
Also, based on this success, Mufasa might just beat Sonic movie 3 sadly
Then how are people really excited for Zootopia 2 when they are complaining about sequels honestly I think Zootopia is one of the few Disney movies that deserves a sequel because there is a lot more to explore with its worldbuilding
You are gonna make it think that all sequles will be bad
Like i bet zootopia 2 will be good since it won't have the same thing moana 2 had
@@bullmonty764 Yeah, it was a much more unorthodox movie compared to past or future films.
So amazing movie
It really pisses me off how hated Wish is
Same thing’s gonna happen with the live action remakes and marvel.
It's been out for a week and has already made $325 million 😲
5 Days!!!
While I do support sequels to movies that I enjoy, Disney and other studios should know that they can't keep making sequels endlessly forever. No matter the franchise, there's only so much you can do with it before people get sick of it and it no longer becomes profitable.
Now I'm really nervous
For a minute I thought you were meant to say Encanto but then I realised it came out just at the end of the pandemic so it doesn’t count at all.
Not necessarily the case. Look at the Wild Robot. That was a big hit. And that was an original movie. But, yeah. Disney should try to do more original movies. Like a Mickey Mouse movie for 2028.
I wonder if it’s gonna beat Barbie’s box office record???
If the movie was good by all accounts, this would sit a little better with me. At least with something like Inside Out 2 I can take some comfort in knowing people just wanted to see a great movie at the theatre. This is a little more worrisome. Will Disney feel the need to do sequels to more of their recent films now? I generally feel ok about the state of cinema, I go to the theatre enough and see so many new and original movies that I know it’s not all remakes and sequels (and there are good versions of those things!). It’s with these big companies that use to be all about new and original that are now playing it safe that I get disheartened.
Just because it makes billions of dollars, it doesn’t mean the general public is going to like it.
Everyone, go see Elio.
I mean, if their original movies keep bombing then we might keep getting sequels forever
Besides, this is their first sequel since Frozen 2 in 2019
I just hope Zootopia 2 is good
coooool
I saw Moana 2 and gave it 4.5/10
Really not a great film but better than Wish
Does this mean Disney won’t do originals movies anymore?😢
They have original projects soon to be released like
Elio which releases June 13th 2025
Hoppers which releases march 6th 2026
An untitled walt Disney original film set to release in November 2026
@@EzihChikamso Oh, thank goodness!
@@TsWade2 you people better show up for these original projects if you still wants them to make more original stuff
I say Disney is getting lazy in writing because I found Moana 2 too rushed and too fast paired!!! I think it’s quite bad to be honest!
I don't think the writers are lazy. But they re-tooled scripts written for television into a movie... the two mediums are distinct for a reason.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder thankfully, Zootopia 2 is not going to feel like that because it has always been planned to be a movie which I’m honestly happy because it has been in development for a long time and it is taking longer to make actually at the very least
Well, we must support the originals while we can. In the end, it's on us, the consumers. I still say there is hope for Disney.
Thankfully, Zootopia 2 is one of the few Disney sequels that I feel like it’s necessary because there’s a lot more to explore with it’s worldbuilding and they are including reptiles, which is very exciting and very promising as well
I agree, we must get all people onboard with us!
@@EvansDisneysAnimationFilmFan That's true. There is a chance it'd be good too.
Wow! Most of the comments here really don't care about Disney's legacy in the slightest. Get Iger out of the company already.
Well, they may as well change their name to DisneyToon Studios and rehire DisneyToon's former employees. But even then, those cheap-quels will not last long, neither would The Walt Disney Company.

Moana 2 and Inside Out 2 and the wild robots was a huge box office became the highest grossing animated feature film it was a great success with a huge million-dollar money for the feature film animation.
Did they Disney Animation cancel whatever yhat original feature for Thanksgiving 2026 yet? It's already garenteed to lose them money, that Frozen 3 will have to clean up in 2027😡
uuuugh.....
Moana 2 was an amazing movie
The Wild Robot needed two months to accomplish the same amount of money at the boxoffice that Moana 2 did in just 4 days. I don't like the lesson we are giving Hollywood. I want to be wowed, not just mere entertainment
I think it's cause Dreamworks put less advertisement out for The Wild Robot, but word of mouth for that one was amazing because I heard from numerous people that it was great since I hadn't seen it till after opening weekend.
