to those of you who've given up hope of some kind of state of recovery, my heart goes out to you. i battled anorexia and bulimia since i was 10, and i've been "in recovery" for about 10 years now, with many, many ups and downs, and yes, it's still there in the back of my mind, but *I* am in control. I have a life that I enjoy. when i have a slip, i get right back up again. you don't have to let this disorder control you.
That's really true... if you've suffered deeply from anorexia you can't be cured. The thoughts are always going to be there. The best you can get is being a sober anorexic.
i'm in recovery just sooo happy now i was just in hospital a few weeks ago nd nun of the girls i was with wld ever try to help me fool them not that i wanted to its just so much better 4 u if u try
Like I said, bulimarexia was used to describe anorexic behaviours but with purging in the 70's and 80's (before bulimia nervosa was established as a 'proper' ED). Anorexia was straight restricting. Today, she would be diagnosed as a purging anorexic.
Bulimarexia is a term that researchers used when first studying bulimia. At the time, the term "bulimia nervosa" wasnt universally accepted. "Bulimarexia" is intended to convey the sense of an eating disorder that is similar to anorexia nervosa -- either a subtype of anorexia or a variant of it.
shes very pretty. ive also noticed she looks alot like emma watson when she had long hair =) thanks so much for uploading ive been looking for this for ages!!
Yes, that's the late Jason Miller (father of Jason Patric, who co-starred with Jennifer Jason Leigh in "Rush") who playd Father Damien Karras in "The Exorcist".
Okay, that comment I made was kinda dumb because I know about body dismorphia from personal experience mostly but i dunno, just thought it was peculiar and depressing that this poor girl doesnt realize that shes cold because shes dying :( (okay now I'm babbling)
@clatterxbrainxallyx much applause to you - well done so much. you must be soooo proud of yourself. Use your good work to help others hun. Everyone must be so proud of you x
I wish subtypes weren't a thing and weight didn't determine diagnosis hence ednos wouldn't exist. you just got treatment appropriate for your personal symptoms... anyone else feel the same??
Same here. But then like.. it's more monitored too. And I highly doubt they would have ever allowed the pictures of food like that like in Carol's room.
operation repo is on in the background while I am watching this and all I hear is "if you don't pay your bill I'm comin for your car and it's gonna be mine"
It's weird how there are many similarities in every part to my own situation. This part: the phone calls on those frieken phones-except mine were beige, patients coming in to my room to say hello, the annoying asian nurse, except now they use scrubs.
lol that is actually hilarious! I totally agree about the iv drip thing! Blood everywhere! Especially from that vien or your arm. Hurts too. Don't do it! x
@ashleyransley : Actually, it is possible to cure an eating disorder. It takes a lot of work, but it can be done. "Unbearable Lightness" by Portia de Rossi proves this theory. I know, you left your comment a year ago. Just thought I'd add my two cents. Hope you don't mind. :-)
"She needs to not be upset" refuses to give her blankets to warm up "Anorexia is caused by a feeling of a lack of control" proceeds to take away control Like I know the stuff here, it's just the science that Lifetime uses doesn't line up with what they do lol
ok here I realy liked her father at least he was trying to be nice to her and he knew that she wouldnt eat if they brought her homw, and at this time they realy didnt know much about Aneorexia nervousa(sp)
@1974atkins This was the movie that started my eating disorder when I was in junior high! When I was finally diagnosed at 16, my shrink gave my parents the book, and I saw it on my mom's nightstand and was like, oh, yeah, that's where I learned.
Its weird that shes unaware of the fact that shes constantly freezing because she is emaciated. Like the whole movie she is cold and doesnt know why...
Bulimarexia, an eating disorder that is characterized by binge eating followed by self-induced vomiting or abuse of cathartic or diuretic drugs, has been defined as both a sequela of anorexia nervosa and a distinct eating disorder.
@LeeniexLooxHoo I was thinking exactly the same thing. In some parts she does look like Emma Watson. I think the hair has a lot to do with it. The face shape is also very similar.
yes it is read about it. if you are to thin you get sick if you are too fat you are sick moreover, the simalaritys between the two are really surprising.
My anorexia relapsed many times, and my hair has always been long and thick no matter what. It's just genetics. Mind you this is just a movie, not real life.
He was in a hospital not in a clinic specialized in eating disorders. Walking out of a hospital is not that hard. Walking out of a clinic... that's difficult. But people scape from prisons, so I think is not impossible.
@ashleyransley I guess in the context of the movie this shows how ignorant the parents are; how much they simply don't understand. They don't know how bad this is.

I used to do both. Watching these kinds of movies makes me realize how far I've come!
The psychologist reminds me of the TV detective Columbo.
Her phone call made me laugh. I know it was supposed to be emotional and sad but the things she was complaining about would make me laugh.
Not funny to me!
Ugh, me too. I can't believe she started the movie (before the disorder) weighing under 100 pounds and they still told her to lose weight.
I wish it was that easy to escape from the hospital.
that puzzle metaphor is so John Green :P

Love the way she squeezes her hands when she talks to the shrink.
Like I said, bulimarexia was used to describe anorexic behaviours but with purging in the 70's and 80's (before bulimia nervosa was established as a 'proper' ED). Anorexia was straight restricting. Today, she would be diagnosed as a purging anorexic.
yeah, i never have been able to just walk out, that is crazy
Haha this psychiatrist cracks me up. "Nope. Nothing. Just wanted to see if you were listening." Hahaha, great stuff.

wow- so glad that hospital trip helped, lol
The ones I've been in are locked down. No bars or fences, but the doors require keys or a code or something.
"coming mother." omfg
some security they have at these hospitals...
she reminds me of emma watson
shes very pretty. ive also noticed she looks alot like emma watson when she had long hair =) thanks so much for uploading ive been looking for this for ages!!
she wouldnt have been able to get out that easily, its called lock down
Yes, that's the late Jason Miller (father of Jason Patric, who co-starred with Jennifer Jason Leigh in "Rush") who playd Father Damien Karras in "The Exorcist".
@ashleyransley Super true. But people knew a lot less about eating disorders in 1981 than they do now.
Okay, that comment I made was kinda dumb because I know about body dismorphia from personal experience mostly but i dunno, just thought it was peculiar and depressing that this poor girl doesnt realize that shes cold because shes dying :( (okay now I'm babbling)
oh my gosh, it's hermoine and ron!!!
What did she say? "The food is disgusting! It smells like toe jam!"??? LOL
Whats Ron doing with his Hogwarts scarf?:o 😂
omg i remember that book! its been sooo long since Ive read it!
@clatterxbrainxallyx much applause to you - well done so much. you must be soooo proud of yourself. Use your good work to help others hun. Everyone must be so proud of you x
ally sheedy is one of the friends in the beginning of the movie.
I wish subtypes weren't a thing and weight didn't determine diagnosis hence ednos wouldn't exist. you just got treatment appropriate for your personal symptoms... anyone else feel the same??
Oh my God! Ron meets Hermione!
It's kind of scary that I had the EXACT same convo with my parents when I was admitted. Still not better though. :(
And that does hurt... it feels like your arm in on fire.
Same here. But then like.. it's more monitored too. And I highly doubt they would have ever allowed the pictures of food like that like in Carol's room.
operation repo is on in the background while I am watching this and all I hear is "if you don't pay your bill I'm comin for your car and it's gonna be mine"
hahaha bulmarexiaaaaa..
hahahahahahash
hilarious
Also, I *HATE* how she says "boolmarexia!"
It's weird how there are many similarities in every part to my own situation. This part: the phone calls on those frieken phones-except mine were beige, patients coming in to my room to say hello, the annoying asian nurse, except now they use scrubs.

people with an ED are hard core, i feel so bad for her
"She needs to not be upset" refuses to give her blankets to warm up
"Anorexia is caused by a feeling of a lack of control" proceeds to take away control
Like I know the stuff here, it's just the science that Lifetime uses doesn't line up with what they do lol
most those unit are lock that would never hapopen
Wow this is a family of winners, you have the constantly gripping parents, the anorexic kid, and the pregnant teen sister hehe.
i was waiting for her to spit pea soup at the doctor.
"better then being fat." being obeists is the same as anarexia just in reverse.
Thats what I was thinking too.
ok here I realy liked her father at least he was trying to be nice to her and he knew that she wouldnt eat if they brought her homw, and at this time they realy didnt know much about Aneorexia nervousa(sp)
Isn't she Melanie Mayron, who later played Melissa on "thirtysomething" in the 80s?
LMFAO bulmarexia. i really wish it was really called that.
how did she get out of the hospital with out anyone noticing her? There is always a few nurses out side the rooms.
@ashleyransley Its so true... its more mental then anything else.
Wow.. I know. That would NEVER happen at the hospitals I've been in.
@1974atkins This was the movie that started my eating disorder when I was in junior high! When I was finally diagnosed at 16, my shrink gave my parents the book, and I saw it on my mom's nightstand and was like, oh, yeah, that's where I learned.
caesey looks like hermione from harry potter.
maybe they're related :D
And she probably wouldn't have gotten away with the food in her drawers either.
Its weird that shes unaware of the fact that shes constantly freezing because she is emaciated. Like the whole movie she is cold and doesnt know why...
What did she say? Bulamarexia?! Dosen't she mean Bulimia?
Bulimarexia, an eating disorder that is characterized by binge eating followed by self-induced vomiting or abuse of cathartic or diuretic drugs, has been defined as both a sequela of anorexia nervosa and a distinct eating disorder.
@LeeniexLooxHoo I was thinking exactly the same thing. In some parts she does look like Emma Watson. I think the hair has a lot to do with it. The face shape is also very similar.
@babybunnyberry OMG! that's exactly what i was thinking... before seeing your comment .... hahha i think she is like absolutely the same as Hermione !
her hair could feed a third world country
yes it is read about it. if you are to thin you get sick if you are too fat you are sick moreover, the simalaritys between the two are really surprising.
she looks so like emma watson
I thought she was Doctor Who with an ED.
He did, it's just called Kessa.
yeah, I hate it when therapists try to help people. so annoying.
My anorexia relapsed many times, and my hair has always been long and thick no matter what. It's just genetics. Mind you this is just a movie, not real life.
Lmfao! Why would you ask an anorexic patient if they're hungry?
i really need a carol
this was a while ago though and the book was written even further back...
Where the heck is the supervision in this place?! She can just walk out?!
Yeah, the dad's an asshole, but he's doing it out of fear. I feel bad for him.
And the moral of the story is - dont talk about cloud puzzles to an anorexic!
He was in a hospital not in a clinic specialized in eating disorders. Walking out of a hospital is not that hard. Walking out of a clinic... that's difficult. But people scape from prisons, so I think is not impossible.
something like it smells like ...... germs or somethin
i ripped out an iv once and it shot blood all over the damn place
I.like.puzzles.
It's Father Damien Karras!!!
i missed hwo she got here cuz video five didnt work,,,,ahh explain..xx
Why am I so scared of her gaining weight?!? Am I the only one that feels that way?!
in some parts she kinda looks like emme watson..but then in other parts she doesn't
BULmarexia? Hello, script supervisor?
@ashleyransley I guess in the context of the movie this shows how ignorant the parents are; how much they simply don't understand.
They don't know how bad this is.
ケイシーかぁいい☆
It smells like what??
one thing i don't get is how her hair is so thick..usually it becomes very thin from anorexia.
@ohthatweirdgirl I know! Like... where are the people doing checks and stuff?
@ashleyransley probably a lack of understanding back in those days.
Jennifer Jason Leigh.
why can she leave hospital that easy? that's strange
yes she is
@urzulkeenboomhug me too.. i feel the same also...
