Following your masters beginner 70.3 plan and then intermediate plan enabled me to do my first ever triathlon race (challenged myself to start with a 70.3!) one of the best experiences I have ever had. race day was stormy and conditions quite tough last November in Ironman Tiberias but I managed to finish strong! Congrats for the new RUclips channel, looking forward for all tips and race reports , Cheers, Oren.
I used you Masters 70.3 plan and completed Chattanooga 70.3 last year with ease..... I felt more than prepared for the big day!!! Finished strong and in fact my 13.1 time was only less than 20 minutes more than my average time without doing a 1.4 mile swim and 56 mile bike, So I feel that's quite good.
I’ve just completed my 20th HIM and approx 200th tri. Confidence in rough water is also a huge benefit. Don’t be afraid of doing practice in the surf - swimming, body surfing or just surfing. It helps you with surges. And as always, LSD is the key.
@@myprocoach123 I completed my Ironman 70.3 Durban in 7hrs40mins. I enjoyed the swim, bike was brutal and being a Comrades Marathon finisher I enjoyed the run too.
Thanks Phil. I've done a few 70.3s and generally pretty fit as well as comfortable in the open water. However I did a race recently where the sun was low, and the sea was choppy, so I panicked, shallow breathing etc got really out of breath and swam an extra 300m! Any advice on combatting those trickier swims and staying calm?
I've had similar things happen, and two things helped. 1. Make time for a warm-up swim (if possible). If not, splash water all over your face, down your suit, etc, so that the water temperature isn't a shock when you start. 2. Focus on exhaling fully on each breath. Otherwise, a CO2 build-up can cause breathing panic. Most people (me included) only think about the in-breath, but the out-breath is equally important.
If possible, talk about the difficulties you encountered during the swim with a coach. You might also want to read some of the open water swim articles on Phil's blog at the MyProCoach website; there are more tips that might help you. Good luck!

@@myprocoach123 thanks great advice about fully exhaling to prevent that shallow breathing!
I did my first sprint I struggled during the swim 😢 don’t know how long will get to a mile by September
