FOND MEMORY.....I was born in 1954....when I was a kid in the early / mid 1960s my brother and I thought it was the greatest thing to go out and buy a "frozen pizza" and cook it up right before the late night saturday monster movies on TV. We had to be real quiet and shut both kitchen doors because if my father knew we had pizza he would "confiscate" a couple of pieces from us. LOL...we thought we were real gourmets because we sprinkled "oregano" on it. We thought that was a secret ingredient

"Beats going out" that's so hilarious.
"Hey, Babe, wanna go out, we'll catch a movie, go dancing..."
"I got an even better idea, I'll make a pizza with Chef Boy Ar Dee's pizza mix."

Hey now, this can be a great time for you & your girl! Bring a nice red wine, have flirtatious fun making the pizza TOGETHER, light a couple candles and make it a romantic night to remember. 💕

"The Chef's Touch" meant that Chef Ettore Boiardi {"Boy-Ar-Dee"} personally had a hand in creating this pizza mix. He wasn't a "figurehead", or a mere "trade mark"...he was a real Italian chef who discovered, at his restauarant in the late 1920's, that his customers wanted a reasonably-priced "do-it-yourself" spaghetti dinner. That was the beginning of the "Chef Boy-Ar-Dee" business. He continued to experiment and create new products (canned spaghetti and ravioli, etc.) until his death in 1985.

He also contributed to the US Armed Forces in WW2 by developing a canning process to provide canned meals in ration packs. He later continued this after the war for his now ubiquitous canned pasta meals.

I've never seen the sausage kit that was mentioned earlier, but like others who remember this great product, I buy the kit every once in a while. I have been enjoying Chef Boy-Ar-Dee pizza since 1954. I wish they would bring back the single pizza box, though.

Keep in mind back "then" pizza was "not" easy to find. There was not a pizza shop every 50 feet like there is now. Pizza was usually only found at "Drive in movie theatres" and some Bars had it. So....this was a big deal to be able to have pizza when ever you wanted.

The kit is really good. Just buy shredded cheese and toppings for the pizza, then you're all set. The grated cheese is basically Parmesan cheese that you normally put on top of your pizza.

After Mom's experiment to make a pizza about 1960, without ever seeing or tasting one, failed, our family ate lots of those. On a very unstructured Thanksgiving, I made one for myself, then sat on the hardwood floor of my room to enjoy it. I washed it down with a bottle of Teem, Pepsi's copy of 7-Up.

They still have these in North Carolna grocery stores. I used to buy them a lot, but I haven't bought on in about three years. But I'm going to buy another one this week, They still make the cheese and the Pepperoni kits, But I believe they discontinued the Sausage one a long time ago. If you can get beyond the stinky Romano and Parmesan cheese when it's baking. But I always buy extra Mozerella cheese, and some hamburger and some more pepperoni and an onion and put it on the pizza and it's delicios this way.

Some of the boxes have a feed a family on the back, you put the code number inside and it's supposed to give a little bit of money from the bar code or the receipt toward feeding a family.

in answer to you post of two years ago..."I wonder why these teens did not want to go out for pizza?" Answer: Back then pizza was not easy to find. Very few places sold it...like at the "drive-in-movies" or "carnivals", or an Italian restaurant. Some Local bars might have it. It was not like today where there is dozens of pizza shops in every direction. In fact I am 58 years old. The first pizza shop in my town wasn't till I was about 12 years old in 1966

PRODUCT REVIEW; ...PROs: Easy to make, does not need refridgeration, inexpensive, the sauce is actually quite good....slightly sweet with noticable oregano flavor. CONs: A little messy to make, the cheese is very granulated with a very pungent "pukey & stinking feet" smell that will permiate your entire house. OTHER NOTICABLE TRAITS: the crust is almost "bread-like" but not objectionable at all. TASTE: far better than I had imagined, not bad....I'd buy it again.
