wow so happy to have found you Eric! thank you for doing these. Is there a way to have RUclips present them in chronological order?

Thank you very much for the kind words. I have been putting them in order lately but in the beginning of this process I was teaching multiple courses so I tended to be all over the map as I uploaded. I may try to create some playlists that will put them in order but the European history ones should be pretty much in the right order.

@@erictolmanshistorylectures90 thanks Changes in Balance of Power was followed by The Age of Ideology is that right?
I have to ask you a personal question. Knowing what you know about history and the way that it seems to be so greatly, if not solely influenced by personalities and impulses instead of a trajectory of sense making and optimizing human flourishing to this day note: our recent sad and seemingly super unproductive escapade in Afghanistan do you ever get depressed and cynical about the human race and it’s possibilities? Like more depressed that don’t know of all the missed opportunities like you do?

depressed and frustrated because you know of all the missed opportunities.

@@newearthlivingithaca after the Metternich lecture you can watch the one on the industrial Revolution then the age of ideology and then lastly the changes in the balance of power. To answer your question it can be a bit of a curse to see history repeat itself but I'm definitely an eternal optimist and have a lot of faith in humanity.

@@erictolmanshistorylectures90 Ok I just jumped back to Napoleon. I’m hopeful too. We used to kill thousands upon thousands in war with grossly incommensurate outrage. Now we are mortified at 13 deaths from our country and a young Afghan family from the other. But more importantly we may now shine a brighter light on war profiteers with more sources of independent journalism, Substack etc
