Eric, thank you for your truly informative lecture on this fascinating episode of history. Much appreciated. The reasons, as you said, are complex.
As an aside, I am really interested in considering why Britain was able to go down a different path and not suffer the dramatic tumult that France had. The fact that England had a house of commons, while French parliaments were comprised of just self interested nobility, and England was able to have a bloodless "Glorious Revolution" is interesting, granted there was a civil war.
Things in British history like the Magna Carta were significant obviously in determining destiny, and Ive read that the Anglo Saxon moot court system decision making to local villages were significant in determining Englands early political DNA. Can these things be connected or am I drawing a very long bow ??

Can you do a video comparing the conditions that lead to the French Revolution with what's happening now?

That means a lot coming from someone who has such a great grasp of French history. I had a quick look at your site and I very much look forward to watch some of your videos. Where are you located and are you a teacher?

@@erictolmanshistorylectures90 oh gosh by no means. I just like history a lot and decided to do a project on some of the french ‘main players’ during the Versailles period. My videos are very rudimentary in comparison to yours ! You are definitely the one with the great grasp on history. Not I... I’m from Belgium btw...

the main cause for the revolution is phillipe egalite wanting the throne.
the most imoportant faction in the french rev. were the orleanists (danton, marat, in the beginning robespierre, barere, desmoulins and many more)
the tricolore was first the colours of philippe egalite. desmoulins wrote " When patriots needed a rallying sign, could they have done
better than to choose the colours of the one who first called us to liberty ? "
" Red and white in honour of the due d'Orleans." -Lafayette
" Will any one make me believe that when I mounted a table on the 12th of July and called the people to liberty, it was my eloquence that
produced that great movement half an hour later, and that made
the two busts of Orleans and Necker spring from the ground ?"- desmoulins about storming the bastille
madame roland writest too that danton was on the paylist of orlean. and that he planed the september massace with marat for orlean
