I commented awhile back and said I had no desire to travel to Alaska..well I've changed my mind. Sooo Beautiful! Enjoying all your videos so much. Thank you for sharing!! Gods peace and safe Travels 🙌🌲🙌
@@lynjameson1368 To answer this question: because when we pulled in there were quite literally only 4 people in the lot. Had no idea this place was gonna be a walmart on Black Friday when we returned. 😂 -J
My hubby drove for UPS for 30 years, one takeaway I got from him is AWAYS back in when parking (if possible) it really does make life easier ❤ thanks for sharing beautiful!
i always back in where possible, even on our driveway at home. not only easier but safer. Back in while more relaxed and under control of the situation. Drive out quickly under duress/ panic if needed,
For sure for sure. Typically a back in kind of guy but with only 4 cars in the lot when we arrived I didn’t even think about it. Had no idea it was going to be a Walmart Black Friday situation on our return. 😂 -J
How great that you have local extended family to show you around. And I love the variations in attire for 42 degree weather. I'm with Kalyn on her clothing choice.

I absolutely loved this video. Even the music was perfect. You two are one of the best couples of doing this type of RUclips video. Another great video. You have never disappointed us.
I'm so happy you took us to Hatcher Pass. That spot is one of my favorite hikes. We used to go all the time. Pack a lunch & some drinks and leave society for a few. Health prevents that now, so doing it with you guys was awesome. If I could still do it, to this very day I'd still be as excited as the first time. It's just breathtaking in Hatcher Pass! You two are the best 🩵 thanks for showing us beautiful Alaska and being so real about the hikes, trails & life on the road. We can’t wait to get back to Alaska. You’ve shown us places we didn’t go on our first time.
0:18 - When you show the "colorful wildflowers" that's a deadly and poisonous flower called monkshood / wolfsbane. But yes, it is pretty and colourful. Happy you had a great time hiking to Upper Reed Lakes. That boulder field can be sketchy and dangerous. And although you said it's like Lake Louise without the people, I bet it got "Alaska crowded" maybe four hours after you left. Sunny weather and clear skies brings all the locals outdoors in droves.
Joe so glad to see you adding the drone to your “filming arsenal”. The shots are great, just do not lose it. Very easy out there to let it get out of range of control. Also think the motorcycle excursions are good addition to incorporate into your adventures. Can actually get a completely additional and different audience tuning in for the channel. Make sure to add that tag to the video. Good that you both are using DOT helmets to protect the vital parts.😂 Catch you next week.👍🏻
Loving the drone. Made the mistake of flying it behind a ridge within the first week (back in March I think). Got the gray screen that can lead to brown pants. Thankfully she did what she was supposed to and started flying back. -J
That's why I always pull through or back into the parking spot to avoid being trapped in for backing up. My wife didn't understand why I did that at first but with 30 years of EMS experience, you learn.
We were in Palmer 5 years ago and I never knew about that hike. That was a gorgeous area you showed with all the waterfalls. I would have easily spent the day there just shooting the waterfalls. It looks like you finally had a great day with no issues except for getting out of that parking lot. Just remember, people are stupid and selfish and that is why that truck blocked you in. As always, I await next weeks video now that this one has ended.
Ok, that hike was BEAUTIFUL. Having fomo all over again about missing out lol. At least I got to see it on your video! and glad you found the drone lol
Glad you enjoyed the valley, I was married in Hatchers pass. My favorite spot on earth is a two hour hike from the lake ... stunningly beautiful. Beautiful! I always back in, cuz it's too hard to back out in "traffic" - and that parking lot would have defeated me if I had to wiggle out. But you did it! Way to go!
Yeah... if the tiny car to my left had been something slightly longer we would have been out of luck. I'm not sure backing in would have saved me either if that were the case but it would have been easier to wiggle. -J
Haha. Thanks! We do ride it a bit. We just don't have good action cameras right now so we usually just don't film - especially if I'm riding alone. Police generally don't like seeing a guy riding down the road with a selfie stick. 😂 -J

Good episode guys! Last summer in our Brinkley I had installed a second 370-watt panel on our Brinkley Z. I had also put in a one-thousand-watt inverter with a dedicated plug run into the unit and we had two 100 ah Battleborn lithium batteries. Served us well. only ran the gen. a couple times. Since that trip I have added two batteries and a three-thousand-watt inverter that supplies a sub panel running most our outlets. We lived off grid on BLM land in an area near Senators Wash outside of Yuma for five months. Cost for seven months is 185 bucks. I also bought a new generator. A Max Peading 3500. it weighs the same as my 2200 and will run our air-conditioning. We only used it twice all winter. Safe travels- Burlington Bill busking on the road and here on you-tube.( last cover is a Tyler Childers song Lady May).
Palmers where we found our RV 6 volt batteries going bad on a friday afternoon. Called a Solar supplier in Anchorage and he said since I need 8 batteries he would come in on Sat. morning and help us out. Went in at 10 am and he helped me with 8 new T-105 RE's. Ran them six years and then when I found out the weight was causing issues with the front compartment I switched to Lithium.
I’ve found there are many in Alaska who are willing to go above and beyond to help. So good of him to make the extra effort to get what you needed on a Saturday! -J
We did Alaska last summer and we did an overnight backpack trip to Reed Lake. When we were there (21-July), the upper lake was still half ice covered and probably the most beautiful scene we have ever experienced. Thanks for sharing your trip and helping us relive ours.
Wow that area is so beautiful. I’d love to see it in person but if I never do, at least I’ve seen it with you. Thank you again for these wonderful videos. ❤
Just when you think the content couldn’t get any better…Wow!!! Thanks again for doing what you do. BTW, thanks for the tripod/selfie stick recommendation. Got one from Amazon and love it!

This area is so gorgeous! Also.. I received my post card and I love it!! Thank you so much! Made my day. ❤ Take care and keep enjoying this journey. I know I am. 😊
We found out later that someone had been missing for more than a day at Bomber glacier when we filmed this!! 👀 I looked through my drone footage but didn't see him. He was rescued the next day. -J
Would backing in to park have made it better? It looked pretty tight. We try to back in when parking so it's easier to pull out. Epic views, you guys. So pretty!!
Many have chimed in to let me know I parked wrong. 😂 My defense has been there were 4 cars in the lot when we arrived and I had zero clue that place was going to be black friday at walmart when we got back. I honestly don't know if backing in would hav helped. Because the other two cars were pretty close to me It was going to be a shimmy challenge no matter how I was parked. Even if I was backed in if I had just cranked the wheel I would have given someone a new racing stripe with my rear fender/bumper. -J
@OpenRoading I understand. I got stuck in a Hobby Lobby parking lot once. The spots were so tight that I couldn't back out because there was no room to maneuver. They parked after me. So I was stuck until one of them came out and left so I could back out. After that, I learned to park further out where I had more room and it was unlikely that I would get boxed in. I was driving our big pickup truck. 😛
Beautiful hike...and it looks like Ireland, but with higher mountains..all the greenery and rocks are just beautiful. And awesome drone footage too. Quick question, what do ya'll carry in your backpacks for hiking? Thanks for showing all of this to us.
It just hit home for me when you mentioned having a new backyard. Of course you do. How cool is that? Amazing. Love traveling vicariously thru you guys. Thanks for making the trip so much fun! I am so looking forward to when I get a postcard from the trip!!!
@@OpenRoading no it didn’t come. Well the US mail is not that great in places. It happens. 🤪 You guys have made me sad I never went to Alaska when my dear friends lived there. But, I am doing it now and the cool thing is I can revisit them whenever I want. Some of your videos are so touching that I watch them again. Some are so funny I have to go back for more chuckles. Thank you so much. I look forward to Friday night for two reasons. The only TV I watch is On Patrol: Live and you guys!!! You two kind of remind me of my husband and me.
@@ernestinebyrne9912 This makes me incredibly sad! Of all the people for the USPS to lose one of the cards for why must it be one of our most faithful encouragers!? BUT!!! I sent out your second card from Chicken a week-ish ago so it should be arriving soon-J
I'm loving all the back in comments. 😂 Mainly because I usually do and was kicking myself this time around - BUT - in my defense there were a grand total of 4 people in this lot when we got there and I had zero inkling that it was going to be a walmart on Black Friday when we got back. lol -J
She might have! It was longer and more technical than any we’ve done with her so far, plus with the filming, it’s not realistic for one of us to always be holding her leash. But we love taking her on hikes when we can! -K

Thanks for talking us along, Alaska is so beautiful it’s hard to believe it’s also so rough and rugged. As far as expensive life is short enjoy it!
My favorite channel and family ❤
So kind. Thanks so much for watching and commenting each week Linda! -J
Been there done that. But I was a child and didn’t at all appreciate how lucky I was at the time. Beautiful
It is so beautiful! -J
What a fantastic video! It is so beautiful there, it took my breath away, too! I can't thank you enough for sharing this Alaska adventure with all of us! Can't wait til your next video! Stay safe and happy adventuring!
Happy Friday. Hope you guys are enjoying your time in Alaska.😀
Hey!!! You got competition but still pulled it off! 🥇
You guys need to get sponsored by Vessi since you guys go hiking so much. ❤
Have never tried that brand before. Maybe someday! -J
This is the best place to pick Blueberries in the fall. ❤
Ah! Explains the parking lot full of Alaska plates then! 🙂 -J
Continued successes in Alaska. Priceless views👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing your hike to the lake
Thanks so much for watching! -J

Wow what amazing scenery, breathtaking. Thanks for sharing your journey with us ❤ can’t wait for next week.
Stellar hike. Thanks so much for the tagalong!
One of the most amazing views we've seen from a hike. -J
We were so close to this area in June but would have died on that hike. Thanks for sharing these awesome views 😮
We found out later that someone had been missing for more than a day at Bomber glacier when we filmed this!! 👀 I looked through my drone footage but didn't see him. He was rescued the next day. -J
This is why I back my truck in…. And I have a small truck compared to your super duty
Right!? I usually do that too. Just didn't think about it when there were only 4 cars in the lot. 😂 -J
Gorgeous area of Alaska! Great photography!
Great job on the video and getting out of the parking spot 👍
Thanks! -J
Oh wow!! Thank you! So beautiful!!!❤❤❤❤
Nice motorcycle shots ... You did a good job !
Thanks! Kalyn is an excellent camera op! 🙂 -J
You make me want to go back to Alaska again and take our RV there! The trails are great. 👍
Soooo pretty out there! -J
Beautiful valley!
So so pretty! -J
Would backing in to park have made it better? It looked pretty tight. We try to back in when parking so it's easier to pull out. Epic views, you guys. So pretty!!
Many have chimed in to let me know I parked wrong. 😂
My defense has been there were 4 cars in the lot when we arrived and I had zero clue that place was going to be black friday at walmart when we got back.
Kalyn haaaaates driving the truck. So I just try to be her driver as much as possible. 😁 -J
Beautiful hike...and it looks like Ireland, but with higher mountains..all the greenery and rocks are just beautiful. And awesome drone footage too. Quick question, what do ya'll carry in your backpacks for hiking? Thanks for showing all of this to us.
Awesome job on the drone footage! I found out about your channel while watching Craig and Victoria.
We LOVE to hear that! Now we've got your Friday nights and Sunday mornings covered! (Depending on your time zone) -J
It just hit home for me when you mentioned having a new backyard. Of course you do. How cool is that? Amazing. Love traveling vicariously thru you guys. Thanks for making the trip so much fun! I am so looking forward to when I get a postcard from the trip!!!
OH NO! We sent one to you in late June!!! Has one not arrived yet?! 👀
We sent your second one out this past week. -J
@@OpenRoading no it didn’t come. Well the US mail is not that great in places. It happens. 🤪
You guys have made me sad I never went to Alaska when my dear friends lived there.
BUT!!! Today, even though we are in Canada and we are making a quick side trip back into another part of Alaska so I'm going to get another post card in the mail to you!!!!
Please keep me posted. I sent out your second card from Chicken a week-ish ago so it should be arriving soon-J
Great Video,,,you guys do superb work....THANKS!
Thank you! -J
Always back in when you can. Love the content!
I'm loving all the back in comments. 😂 Mainly because I usually do and was kicking myself this time around - BUT - in my defense there were a grand total of 4 people in this lot when we got there and I had zero inkling that it was going to be a walmart on Black Friday when we got back. lol -J
Wow, just beautiful! “This is like Lake Louise without the people” So true 🇨🇦
I bet your dog would liked the hike.
She might have! It was longer and more technical than any we’ve done with her so far, plus with the filming, it’s not realistic for one of us to always be holding her leash. But we love taking her on hikes when we can! -K
thanks for sharing folks really enjoy the videos
Thanks for taking the time to watch! We so appreciate it! -J
