Evo 8 9 Idle IAC Issues

- We all want the MIT-1450A069 but given the $400 price and fact that many OEM parts are now discontinued, it's nice to have alternatives. I had success with the MD628318 as it's shape and profile match closest to the OEM IAC.
My actual troubleshooting steps (video was a bit out of order)
-Discovered cold start idle issues but did not know the cause
-Tuner adjusted SD cold start tables to no avail
-Idle issues get worse and present themselves during actual driving
-Determined IAC in my car is not the proper OEM, nor is the Evo 8 throttle body
-Bought used OEM MIT-1450A069 IAC from Ebay but it was dead
-Bought proper Evo 9 throttle body including MD628318 IAC which immediately solved cold start stalling
-Adjusted BISS screw with EvoScan which dialed out remaining idle issues while driving
Wow... this was extremely helpful. My Evo 8 would Rev or cut off when going into neutral while driving. Thanks for the great video 👍
Hey great video, just a question you only change the IAC or you have to re tune the car ?
Mine does something similar on my 05, cold start only. I just got this and we’ll see if it fixes it.
I’m having this issue on my 2001 Mitsubishi Galant 8 gen 2.4l and it doesn’t stall on me but it’s laggy on throttle response. I don’t wanna mess with that screw and adjust the idle.
Great video! Did the IAC give you bad throttle body respond? When you try to gas it, it won't rev right there but rev a few seconds later.
Hi, I did not have that problem. For that, I would check the throttle body plate and see if it is sticking. I would also check the throttle cables, air filter, and clean the MAF (or check the OMNI 4 bar if on speed density)
Thank you very much for a detailed video. I am currently experiencing this issue in my 03
You're welcome. The issue plagued me for years, and I had no idea what it was, so wanted to help others out once I found out.
@@Driver732 so after changing out the IAC with a brand new one I am still experiencing throttle and idle issues. Perhaps fuel injectors or pump setup? I am on stock setup for fuel system.
@@deejay098 yes I would check that, and also the BISS screw to make sure that is set properly. What kind of issues are you having at idle? Is it RPM hunting?
@@Driver732 at idle it will RPM hunt for a few seconds then totally lose power and cut out. When I I try to apply gas it struggles to regain power and stalls out. When I leave it for a little while it will be drivable for a few blocks then start RPM hunting then cut out until I let it sit a bit. I'll check BISS screw for idle correction but this started a few weeks after Speed density tune.
@@deejay098 I would have the tuner look into that, something does not seem right. Especially once warmed up. Cold starts are a bit more difficult to tune in since speed density / tephra v7 had many extra tables that could be adjusted. How are the logs looking? Sometimes the fuel trims, o2 feedback, airflow, and iac steps can identify problems
Any updates on the evo. Has that MD628318 part work good until now?.
Bro,these stepper motor evo 8 9 are same with evo7?
Una Consulta el Evoscan funciona para Lancer 2007?
Hey great video man, my cold start idles are on point but after driving the car around my idle starts to hunt, or idle at 2k depending. Do you think a bad IAC can cause this?
It could also be tune related but that does sound like an IAC issue. Try swapping out the $20 replacement and see if it helps.
My evo 9 Randomly idles up to 2k and stays at that rpm. Then it goes away for about a month. Then it happened again. It’s weird. Did you fix your issue?
@@erikmexico11 I actually sold the car lol. I believe my issue was running a VTA BOV on the stock MAF. In your case, I would check for vacuum leaks, or swap IACV’s…
Can this cause high idle ?? Sometimes I get high idle 2k rpm not all the time only when cold start sometimes it’s good sometimes it’s high an when the ac is on the idle drops to 1k , help how can I fix this I’m on speed density can I use this method to see if my iacv revs high
yes mine is doing this 100%. Replaced the iac and its gone
It could, but also check the tune. There are tables both in OEM and Tephra for cold start, usually based on coolant temp vs RPM speed. Same goes for a/c on/off, there is a table for RPM vs A/C position 1 and 2. I would have the tuner check those out if needed.
@@Driver732 I asked my tuner but he said that’s not on his part he said the tune is ok , but u know what’s also happening bro my afrs never on 14.7 in neutral it’s always 11-12 only when I cruise it’s 14.7 ish uk what I mean hot or cold if I start the car with the ac off my afr always jumps to 11-12 with the ac on it goes to 13 sometimes but before it worked fine it does this on its own so don’t think it’s the tune
@@Driver732 I just really dislike the rich high idle even when it drops down afr remains rich before it used to drop to 14-15 afr pump gas my car is bone stock an idk why I decided to go speed density u think if I go back maf sensor I should be okay ? Cus that’s the exact amount of air the engine would be seeing with the maf
My iacv moves but no ticking sound at all, found the cheap part # in your description on ebay and going to try it soon. Thanks!
let me know if it works. I have been cold starting my car weekly in temps under 30 F and logging. No stall outs yet. Fingers crossed.
@@Driver732 I didn't notice anything changed after I put in the new iacv but I noticed I had a vacuum leak from my BISS O-ring after performing a boost leak test. I plan to replace that next and hopefully that solves my issue.
I found out today, aside from my BISS screw my throttle body seals were bad so I think that was the major problem besides some other vacuum leaks I had (ic piping). I guess it wasn’t my iac but a bunch of worn out seals etc. Thank you for the video though!
