    As football evolves and player roles continue to shift, more and more importance has been given to the centreback. While they’re not the type of players to get all the media attention, modern systems and tactics have transformed the centreback into one of the most sought after positions, with the price tag of world class players in this position rapidly trending upwards.

    I remember when pep at barca used to let the center backs build from the back and even converting midfielders into center backs . Pep was accused of "playing with the ball at the back ". Now every single club in the world ,from the lower leagues to the highest is playing this way now. Pep is a genius

      @@niiadjeidsane9071 pep has to implement it and it's not easy to implement. It's also his style of football also because cruyff team does not play like pep team. And I have seen cruyff as a coach with koeman ,pep , stojkov ,romario etc. You are not talking to a kid . I have seen those teams and I have seen Pep team. Pep is a genius . And cruyff never played defenders in this way either .

      @@curtischarles5299well, Koeman was indeed the first ball playing defender I have seen live. He was like van dijk in terms of passing range and style, but even better at doing it. He was the first playmaker of the team.

    • @curtischarles5299
      @curtischarles5299 10 месяцев назад +28

      @@XPL80 man the first time is saw koeman I was shocked . He was the defender that changed the way defenders played. I remember his one /two passes moving straight through the midfield . He literally 2as like a midfielder at the back. In those days you will never ever ever see a center back pass the ball comfortably. They usually would win the ball and play it long . Kick it out at times .
      This is why when I see these wanna be fans now disrespecting koeman it makes me boil . Because if they knew the legend this man was they would not behave like this .but they dont know the history . But oh my ,they are the greatest fans on the planet . We dont have to like how he coached and I'm not to keen on his style but you have to respect this man. This man breathes barcelona . That's why he came and sometimes wasnt even paid and told the club when they can ,pay him. That's someone who loves barca . They respect players who grab the money and go .more than a real legend himself.

Seemed unfair back in the day when Rijkaard and Koeman were our starting CB's for the national team, shame how we failed to win a world cup with three generations of great players...

    Moore, Beckenbauer and Scirea were the pioneers of this particular approach to center back role. They were really good with the ball and had excellent passing range, but short and long. They were also extra attackers when needed (specially Beckenbauer and Scirea). Baresi (the ultimate defender IMO), Stieleke, Tresor, Passarella, Krol, the other libero from 70's Ajax whose name I don't remember, were also excellent ball-playing defenders. Probably I missed some old players anyway.
    Then came lots of other defenders with these skills, many of them former CDMs or FBs: Koeman, Rijkaard at Ajax (94), Aldair, Montero, Mihajlovic, Nesta, Stam, De Boer, Maldini (when he played CB), Costacurta (who was far better technically than people give him credit for) Hierro, Onopko, Desailly, Blanc, Matthaus in the latest stage of his carreer, Lucio, Materazzi, Marquez (as good as Pique on the ball but far better all around defender, if you ask me), Ferdinand, Carvalho, Terry (yes, he had fairly good passing range), Bonucci, Pique (one dimensional player lucky enough to be someone's son), Ramos after Mourinho, Varane...
    My point being, it has always been important to have some order on the build up from the back. It gives the maneuver flow and speed to guarantee possession and a swift transition. Of course in recent times the importance of the role has gone to the limelight. But it has always been there.

      @@mustafajuventino9964 The Vornander regen ended up being a pretty decent CB. Slow, but massive! Got his head on everything. Think Jaric was just Dulic with a wand of a left foot :D

      Yeah I'm happy with this design, I'm not a logo designer so took me ages, I like the colour scheme but I'm aware it's quite a basic logo haha
