I completely agree with you. Almost all Scottish players too. Players brought up by Celtic like Nicholas, McCluskey, McGrain, Moyes, Bonner and McStay. And others signed from the likes of Dumbarton and Kilmarnock. Doubt if we'll see the likes of this again.
1982, i was 13 and in Beniborm with my parents. The night before the game i was sitting on a wall wearing my green with white pinstripes Celtic top . A Dutch man said,' Celtic no good.Ajax beat Celtic.' Always remember my mother's.' Aye, we'll see.' My holiday after that was purely about looking out for him. Never seen him again 😂
Greetings to one and all. For a chappie such as myself who wasn’t born until August ‘85 these particular uploads are Manna from our Roman Catholic Heaven. God bless all Celtic supporters who are the Lord’s Disciples. Incidentally, the more I watch archive footage of our Beloved Celtic the more I comprehend that Mr. Danny McGrain was (and shall remain) an awesome soccer player and would feature certainly in my particular ideal starting lineup, including Paolo Di Canio. Dear Lord at times the soccer produced by the Bhoys during the mid ‘90s was breathtaking.🇮🇪☘️
As much as I can’t stand them mate I wish that was the case. 4 * European Champions and regular latter stage competitors. But I bet their ‘custodians’ don’t gaslight their fans that there is a glass ceiling in Europe beyond which they can’t at least compete every once in a while. Still, this game, that kit and those celts though 🍀🥰
Ah, those were the days. The days when Glasgow Celtic played with three strikers against a Cruyff led Ajax and one Frank McGarvey setting up the first and playing a big part in the second.
What a result cos we drew first game 2 2 at home so ajax had 2 away goals i was at celtic v ajax game i think it was in 73 it was played at hampden. Celts won 1 0 jinky but ajax hammered us 3 0 in the first leg cryuff tore us to shreads ajax missed some right sitters 2nd leg as well shud have won that as well great seeing jinky and johaan on the same pitch ajax won the european cup 3 years running 71 72 73
Nearly every game from the 80s contains at least one absolute Bonner howler. Makes ye wonder what the team could have achieved with for example, Jim Leighton in goal.
@@Kiln99 he had his good moments but he was a complete liability. And he was even worse in the '90s. Far, far worse. It blows my mind that a club of Celtic's standing stuck with him for so many years. And not just for Celtic - yes he saved that Romania penalty (which was an awful pen by the way - soft, almost central and waist height) at Italia '90 but look at the two mistakes he made which got Ireland eliminated from Italia '90 and USA '94. Also just before that Romania penalty shoot out there was the 1990 Scottish Cup Final which Aberdeen won 9-8 on pens - of the 10 Aberdeen penalties (one was hit over the bar), Bonner didn't even get near a single one of them.
@@theflyintheointment Was just watching Ajax away 1982 and there's horrendous gaffe in that game too. Funny thing is, I never noticed just how bad he was at the time lol. Used to wonder why he wasn't first choice for Ireland till 87ish. He'd been Celtic no. 1 for around 6 years by then. I know why now looking back 😕
@@Kiln99 Exactly. If Aberdeen could replace Jim Leighton with a goalkeeper the quality of Theo Snelders, who was excellent for his first few years at Aberdeen, there was no reason Celtic couldn't have done the same.
Cracking Celtic away kit that 😍
It's a cracker I had that and the white one 🍀🍀
Still sends a shiver down my spine , Charlie’s goal was a thing of beauty, and he provided the assist for McCluskeys goal . 👍🏻🍀
I remember this game as a wee boy. What a Celtic team that was from the eighties. My heroes back then. Hail ! Hail !
When it's spring again, we'll sing again!
2-1 in Amsterdam!
Ha ha. Nice one!
Charlie Nicholas had great close control and finishing. I liked that away strip.
before money destroyed this beautiful sport. pure entertainment.

Spot on a actually says in early 90s when Sky was taking the reigns it would eventually become elitist , look at football now I was spot on 🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️
Paul McStay is 17 here and already a class act
Maestro 💚
Anything is Possible when You have Danny McGrain in your team. ❤ 🇮🇪
Never seen a player with a better work rate.
Until maeda?
After giving me the biggest smile all day UP THE CELTIC HH
I was there!! Went with the Bhoys from the Coatbridge CSC.

The game if money, not ridiculous amounts, were put into the other clubs, Scottish football can be an excellent game, its still proper physical.
Moyes celebrating at the end.

Made that game for £1.50 back in the day with my railway card
Bonner up to his usual awful, awful standard for the Ajax goal!
